Chapter 228 The First Step Towards the Butcher

Chapter 228: Chapter 228 The First Step Towards the Butcher

The Midnight Butcher is an extremely rare hidden profession in Perfect Life, with a very high difficulty in class change. To obtain this profession, one must go through numerous trials, yet this also proves the value of the profession from another perspective.

The difficulty of acquisition is directly proportional to the profession’s strength. To become the Midnight Butcher, one must venture into the hidden map to complete extremely difficult hidden tasks which would be nearly impossible for anyone in the normal Perfect Life game.

"What’s the use of the system’s judgment anyway? It feels like it’s grading me now, assessing whether I’m a good match for this profession."

After releasing the black cat, Han Fei didn’t dare to stay put; he memorized the location of the intersection and continued forward.

"The tasks issued by the system seem simple, just requiring me to kill with the knife in my hand, but I feel that even if I finish the task, I might not be able to obtain the Midnight Butcher profession. The system is useless, sinister, and it especially likes to toy with human nature."

If he didn’t know the background of Beast Alley, Han Fei might have made choices entirely based on his own preferences, but having learned about Spider in reality, he even went to the Meat Factory Courtyard for Family to experience the life that Spider once had.

As he delved deeper into understanding, Han Fei pondered a question whenever he made a choice.

If Spider had encountered such a scene, what would he have done?

Unaffected by the other eight alter egos, Han Fei considered the situation from the perspective of Spider’s primary personality.

"Beast Alley is the first novel Spider wrote in order to record the world as he saw it, through his eyes. Perhaps the best solution is to act according to his thoughts..."

While Han Fei pondered the problem, he didn’t go far before the Black Giant Python quickly coiled around him and pulled him back; it seemed to have seen something.

"I didn’t hear any footsteps, though?"

Trusting the Black Giant Python, Han Fei decisively retreated.

After waiting a while and seeing no abnormalities, Han Fei and the Black Giant Python reentered the alley.

The smell of blood in the air had obviously gotten stronger. The muddy path was covered with blood and filth, sticky underfoot, and despite careful steps, it would make "splat" and "splat" noises.

"All the bloodstains on the ground and walls are fresh, a brutal fight must have taken place in this alley not long ago."

Han Fei originally planned to avoid the place of trouble and take another route, but the Blood-colored Paperman in his hand reacted, indicating that Xu Qin was up ahead.

"Could these bloodstains be related to Xu Qin?"

The mere thought sprang to mind and his feet began moving forward involuntarily. In the perilous Beast Alley, the name Xu Qin gave Han Fei and the Black Giant Python an inexplicable sense of safety at the time.

To avoid making noise, Han Fei walked very slowly.

The smell of blood and stench in the air was so intense it could suffocate a person. As Han Fei turned a corner, his eyes narrowed slightly.

A large pig-faced monster collapsed onto a pile of garbage; its belly was torn open with a large hole, and its chest still heaved faintly.

The mask on its face was full of cracks, severely damaged, and from beneath it emitted a cry like that of a baby.

The cries were weak; the pig-faced monster seemed to be near death.

"Who did this to it?" Upon seeing the half-dead pig-faced monster, Han Fei’s pupils shrank; his leg muscles tensed, and he immediately pulled out the Boning Knife.

To complete the task, he needed to kill, and before him was a perfect opportunity.

The pig-faced monster was weak and heavily wounded; it couldn’t even move, which was an opportunity sent from heaven.

"The large hole in the belly is a tear wound, Xu Qin’s weapon is a Dinner Knife, meaning it wasn’t Xu Qin who wounded it, but something else." Approaching slowly, the Knife in Han Fei’s hand also trembled lightly, the collective hatred of a family of six nearly materializing, making the blade even sharper.

Approaching quietly, Han Fei’s brain worked rapidly, considering all possibly overlooked details.

"The monster wasn’t injured by Xu Qin, the bloodstains are sprayed out, the entire alley is filled with blood and flesh remnants; it’s clear it was chased here by something. Whoever it was, they were thoroughly enjoying the pleasure of torture. Would someone who likes to torment their prey be kind enough to let it go?"

Before Han Fei could exit the alley, he saw a wooden door next to the injured pig-faced person being pushed open.

A pig-faced monster, nearly three meters tall with one of its eyeballs punctured, appeared.

The lower half of its mask was damaged, revealing an ugly pig face. It was holding a hefty Bone Chopper in its right hand and dragging a long string of heads tied up with hemp rope in its left.

"Is it that one?!"

Han Fei’s eyes instantly filled with rage; the injuries on his shoulders and arms were thanks to this very pig-faced monster!

He had exerted all his strength, and it wasn’t until his opponent was caught off-guard that he managed to blind one of its eyes.

"It seems to have gotten stronger?" Dangerous light flared in Han Fei’s eyes, "As long as I can kill that dying pig-faced monster, I’ll consider it a mission accomplished. Unfortunately, there’s another condition to exit the game, which is to stay for a full three hours, and it’s not time yet."

The moment Han Fei saw it, a plan of snatching food from the jaws of death sprang to his mind.

He wanted to use his own knife to kill the pig-faced creature on the ground, and log off the game the moment the mission was complete.

If it weren’t for the requirement of time spent in the game, he might have already stealthily approached the pig-faced monster from behind.

"If I can’t log out of the game, even if I manage to steal the kill, it would be very difficult to escape with my current physical condition," Han Fei, like a venomous snake hidden in the dark, stared fixedly at the back of the pig-faced monster. He could rescue a wounded cat, but he could also ruthlessly kill a monster that had lost its humanity.

"I need an opportunity."

The pig-faced monster, dragging a head, emerged from an old house nearby. It looked around and then stomped viciously on another monster’s wound.

It seemed to hope the other would scream in agony, attracting something else to come.

After several stomps, the pile of garbage was soaked in blood.

Clearly an animal with a pig face but the blood was still humanly crimson, as if telling Han Fei that they might once have been human.

As its wound tore wider, the struggling pig-faced monster on the ground gradually stopped. Its pupils lost focus, and the hand it had clenched slowly unclenched.

Dropping the head it had held, the masked, pig-faced monster seemed unsatisfied, emitting a series of horrific roars, then raising its bone chopper.

It intended to sever the head of its own kind with the chopper in its hand and imprison the twisted, ugly soul within the knife.

"Do pig-faced monsters also kill each other? Or is it because the mask is damaged that it attacks anything indiscriminately?"

Han Fei watched everything quietly, his gaze ice-cold, devoid of any emotion, and his intense killing intent was perfectly hidden by his master-level acting.

With the bone chopper raised, the pig-faced monster let out a chilling laugh. As it harshly swung the chopper down towards the neck of the monster on the ground, the monster, which Han Fei thought had stopped struggling, suddenly shifted its body to the side.

The heavy bone chopper lodged itself in the monster’s shoulder blade, and in the instant it got stuck on the bone, the pig-faced monster with scattered pupils let out a piercing scream!

It sprang up like a fish, then reached into its torn belly and took out a hidden short knife.

Its five fingers gripped the knife tightly, then it stabbed forcefully at the chest of the other pig-faced monster.

It was so sudden, no one had expected the dying monster to fight back.

The masked monster let go of its grip on the bone chopper, but it was a step too late. The knife stabbed into its chest and slashed downward, leaving a long gash.

If the monster on the ground hadn’t been so weak, that strike could have pierced its heart.

The masked monster hadn’t expected the attack, and in a rage, it grabbed its fellow and slammed it against the wall.

The two massive "beasts" fought, and it seemed like the entire alley shook.

With roars from its mouth, the monster with a gaping stomach knew it wouldn’t survive, so it made as much noise as possible to attract more danger. It wanted to drag the "person" who killed it down to hell with it.

After a desperate struggle, the pig-faced monster was finally beheaded by the bone chopper, and the short knife it held was also smashed by the bone chopper.

As the knife shattered, four wailing souls were forcibly sucked into the chopper.

The bone chopper, already terrifying to behold, now had several more bloodstains, emitting a colder aura, and the swirling hatred intensified.

Kicking aside the severed head of its kin, the one-eyed pig-faced monster clutched the wound on its chest and abdomen and spat a few mouthfuls of blood onto the corpse of its kin.

Feeling this wasn’t enough to vent its anger, it repeatedly smashed the other’s bones.

Releasing its fury didn’t improve its wounds. As they tore further, it leaned against the wall, grasping the bone chopper, preparing to leave.

Blood dripped to the ground, but it didn’t notice the cold gaze that had been watching it from behind.

"I’ve found the perfect prey."

Han Fei emerged silently from his hiding spot, looking toward the severed head of the pig-faced monster, and reached out to take off its pig-faced mask.
