Chapter 122: Late Night Convenience Store

Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Late Night Convenience Store

After completing the main task, Han Fei took a long breath of relief, but his expression remained chilling and terrifying.

From a stranger’s perspective, Han Fei seemed dangerously unhinged at first glance, with a nearly imperceptible twisted smile on his lips and his eyes, bloodshot and devoid of any human emotion, only filled with deeply hidden malice.

He appeared as if he was intentionally luring people to attack him, crazy, cunning, and sinister. Perhaps, at this moment, his brain was thinking about how to dismember fierce ghosts, how to make more entertaining human toys, and how to torment those lost souls.

But in reality, Han Fei wasn’t thinking about dismemberment at all. His heart was thumping wildly as he adjusted his facial micro-expressions while pondering how to quickly get away. He missed the sense of security Xu Qin brought him, longing to return to the Haunted House and exit the game, then order some barbecue and beer to properly celebrate surviving another day.

After using the Soul-returning, Han Fei was extremely weak. He struggled to cross to the other side of the road, now reaching his limit.

The bloodstains on the wall had faded, and the fierce ghost that could cloud all senses was hiding. Apart from it, there seemed to be other fierce ghosts peering out from the shops across the street at Han Fei, but they had seen what had happened to the blood-stained human figures, so they didn’t make any rash moves.

"It’s time to go back."

Han Fei could log off at any time now, but he felt it was very dangerous to do so here. It was safer to go back to the Happiness Residental Community.

Turning around, Han Fei was about to head back when he suddenly saw Xu Qin frantically gesturing at him, apparently signaling him to hide first.

A few seconds later, Han Fei realized that the street had become much quieter; all the scapegoats who had "hit on" him before had disappeared.

"It’s been ten minutes, something might be coming!"

Strange singing now echoed from one side of the street. With no one else around, Han Fei couldn’t get back even if he tried. He could even potentially lead this unknown entity into the Happiness Residental Community.

He didn’t hesitate, and decisively hid in the shop closest to him.

Seeing Han Fei leave, Xu Qin quickly retreated as well.

The surroundings became eerily quiet, so quiet that the singing from far away could be clearly heard.

Han Fei didn’t know what the singing meant, only that when it was heard, ghosts shied away, leaving the place like a ghost town.

Lying low under the storefront window, Han Fei dared not make any movement; he even covered his mouth, afraid to breathe too loudly.

The singing slowly approached. Han Fei couldn’t understand what it was about and didn’t dare to peek out. All he hoped was for the other party to leave quickly.

Clenching his fingers, as the singing came closer, Han Fei held his breath and looked up at the window glass.

The singing seemed to be deliberately approaching the intersection, possibly attracted by the cigarette Han Fei had lit earlier. Now it stopped at the intersection.

Like calling back souls, the chilling singing lingered at the crossroads. Gradually, it seemed to have found Han Fei through some method!

The singing, mixed with laughter and crying, came closer and closer to the shop. Han Fei even felt that the figure was sizing him up through the storefront window.

The landlord’s ring on his finger kept exuding a chilling sensation. As the singing pushed closer, a bone-deep chill surged from his fingers throughout his body.

The entity represented by the singing was more terrifying than anything Han Fei had encountered before!

"Snap!"

A crisp sound came from Han Fei’s hand; he widened his eyes to look at his left hand, where a crack had appeared on the landlord’s ring.

"This is bad!"

The singing suddenly stopped, accompanied by the shattering of the window glass. A heart-wrenching scream echoed overhead.

Blood flowed from both ears; merely hearing this sound caused his will to disperse, and his life value almost bottomed out instantly.

Without any hesitation, Han Fei immediately opened the Attribute Panel and pressed the exit button.

Blood engulfed the surroundings; the world was wrapped in scarlet until everything froze, and Han Fei’s consciousness began to drift. But at that moment, he saw something even more terrifying!

In the city frozen by the blood-red, a pair of hands reached out, seemingly trying to grab him!

Opening his eyes wide, Han Fei violently removed the gaming helmet, gasping for breath in shock!

"What on earth was that! It could still attack me after I exited the game?"

Han Fei could hardly imagine what would happen if he were caught by it while exiting the game; perhaps, his consciousness would forever be imprisoned somewhere, becoming a toy and a collectible for that entity.

His back drenched in sweat, Han Fei gripped the armrest of the chair tightly: "I was careless, everything had been going too smoothly these days. I was really careless. Happiness Residental Community is just the beginning; the neighbors inside all have affiliations with the former Building Chief. Surviving them isn’t something to be proud of."

His heart pounding non-stop, Han Fei couldn’t calm down. The last entity that appeared brought him an indescribable horror.

All this time, he had considered logging off as his trump card, but just now, he realized that this trump card wasn’t foolproof.

"Are there some things in Deep World that have grown powerful enough to defy the game’s rules?" Han Fei thought about the choice the former Building Chief had made him make next to the Black Box: "It seems Deep World isn’t just filled with despair and pain; that world must be completely insane."

Just hearing the other’s voice caused Han Fei’s life value to bottom out instantly, and his will began to scatter. He didn’t know how to deal with such an entity.

"The worst and most negative aspects of human nature all accumulate in the Deep World, so it’s not surprising this place can generate such extreme evil."

Han Fei stared at the gaming helmet on the table, then took out his phone and flipped to that eerie photo, the one where Han Fei lay on the bed wearing the gaming helmet.

"I was alone at home then, and I still haven’t figured out who took that photo. Now that I think about it, could it have been something inside this helmet that did it?"

Clenching his fist until his knuckles cracked, Han Fei felt that what sat on his desk was not a gaming helmet but a head, a head with eyes open, tenderly looking at him.

His body was in a state of extreme fatigue, but Han Fei could not sleep.

The next time he logged in, he would still appear outside the shops in the residential community. He did not know whether that thing would leave.

"Take it one step at a time, I guess. Surviving this long is already a win," he thought.

Han Fei kept comforting himself inwardly, but he still could not fall asleep. As soon as he closed his eyes, that piercing scream would echo through his mind.

The sunlight streamed through the curtains into the room, and Han Fei, who had not slept all night, got up and went to the bathroom. He looked at himself in the mirror and tried to muster a smile.

Anyone who saw that smile would think it was filled with goodwill and a sense of happiness, the only exception being Han Fei himself, because no amount of acting could deceive himself.

After freshening up, Han Fei rushed to the set to continue his strenuous work.

He actually enjoyed the state of acting because it meant he was playing someone else, immersing himself in someone else’s world and could forget his own troubles.

The filming of "Twin Flowers" had nearly reached its conclusion. The first half of the script remained unchanged except for the removal of Acheng’s scenes, while the latter half was almost a solo show by Han Fei.

Taking advantage of Han Fei’s current popularity, the distributor started a massive advertising campaign. Based on the feedback from netizens, the drama was unlikely to lose money.

"Twin Flowers", a thrilling detective movie, quietly climbed the charts of the most anticipated new dramas despite being dominated by comedies, period dramas, and love stories on various online TV platforms.

After a day of filming, Han Fei hurried away from the set, had a hearty meal, and then returned home.

If he logged in to find that unknown thing guarding his corpse, Han Fei was certain to die. All he could do now was hope it had left.

He set an alarm and tried to sleep for a while.

When midnight arrived, he hesitated for a moment but then put on the gaming helmet anyway.

The world before his eyes turned blood-red, the redness like fresh blood pouring down, soaking every corner of this world.

"Welcome to Perfect Life!"

The system’s prompt tone had ended, and Han Fei waited a couple of seconds before opening his eyes.

The shop window was shattered, and glass shards littered the floor, with the street ahead completely deserted.

"It left? It wasn’t guarding the corpse?" His heart, which had been in his throat, fell back into his stomach, and Han Fei simply collapsed next to the shop window.

Opening the Attribute Panel, Han Fei found that his Life Value was now only at three points, and his body was in a state of extreme weakness.

"Did that thing really leave? But why do I feel that this place has suddenly become a lot quieter?" As Han Fei’s hand unintentionally touched the ground, the texture felt strange. He turned his head to look, and his pupils slowly narrowed.

Unable to find Han Fei, that unknown thing simply destroyed the three adjacent shops. It crushed the bodies of the ghosts and monsters, mixing them with the Curse and spreading them across the floor.

At first glance, it would seem the room was covered in thick mold, but in fact, it was blood and flesh mixed with the Curse. The ghosts and monsters in the room had not completely vanished; they could still feel pain and despair.

"Can’t even scatter their souls?"

Han Fei took out the Dinner Knife Xu Qin had given him, wrapped the hilt with a "human" skin pad, and gave several ghosts in the room a quick end.

He did it intending to help the ghosts find release, but what he didn’t expect was that after he killed those ghosts, his Experience Value actually increased substantially.

"I’ve finished off Outsiders before but it didn’t give much Experience. Could it be that I only earn Experience Points when I make the ghosts feel relieved? Only when they’re willing to be killed by me, can I gain Experience Value?"

After dealing with the tormented ghosts in the shop cursed by the Curse, Han Fei stepped out of the shop. He wanted to return to Happiness Residential Community, but across the street, an old man holding a fire basin was staring at him with a malevolent look.

"I only have three drops of blood left, a slight touch might kill me."

There were two ways to recover health: one was to rest, and the other was to consume food.

After pondering for a moment, Han Fei looked toward the convenience store at the crossroads.

The entire street was pitch-dark, but a faint light emanated from that unremarkable convenience store.

"The convenience store isn’t far from where I am, and that unknown monster didn’t destroy it. Is it just lucky, or is there some deeper reason behind it?"

With only three drops of blood left, Han Fei dared not move rashly. He decided to stay in the cursed shop for a while to recover and then figure out a way to get back to the residential community.
