My Happy Daily Life After Being Reborn -
Chapter 94 - 18 Yu Xiaomiao
Chapter 94: Chapter 18 Yu Xiaomiao
"May I ask who you are?" A delicate-looking woman with a petite figure approached, her voice timid and gentle.
Lin Xiaoguai smiled softly, "My husband is the newcomer Shen Chi. I wonder if you’ve heard about him?" It was the second time she referred to her husband as such, and she found herself getting used to it.
The delicate-looking woman seemed somewhat puzzled and after thinking for a moment, her face lit up with realization, "I remember now, my Guo Zhong mentioned him, is it the new Lieutenant Colonel Shen?"
Lin Xiaoguai smiled and nodded as the other woman apologized, "I’m Yu Xiaomiao. My husband is Wang Guozhong, commander of the Sixteenth Company, and he serves under Lieutenant Colonel Shen."
"Hello." Lin Xiaoguai’s smile carried a bit more ease. Compared to Wu Ermei’s enthusiastic approach and Liang Yuwei’s natural familiarity, she actually preferred interacting with more introverted and gentle people like Shen Xiu and Yu Xiaomiao.
Yu Xiaomiao seemed to pick up on something from her smile and laughed as she looked at Little Niangao surrounded by other children, "Are you here to let your child play?"
She was about to say more when her gaze suddenly fell on Liang Yuwei standing next to Lin Xiaoguai, her expression faltering, "Liang Yuwei, you’re here too?"
No matter how you heard it, the tone sounded a bit off. Normally, you’d directly use the first name if you were close, unless there were conflicts. Addressing someone by their full name like this...
Lin Xiaoguai felt something was strange but hadn’t had the chance to speak up when she heard her son’s panicky, fearful sounds.
Thinking something may have happened, Lin Xiaoguai quickly ran over, but upon seeing the scene before her, she felt a mix of laughter and tears.
"Little Niangao, brother and sister are just fond of you and want to play with you. There’s no need to be scared, okay? Our Little Niangao is a brave baby, isn’t that right?"
It turned out that Little Niangao was surrounded by children who, seeing his pretty clothes and delicate cuteness, had earnestly sought to play with him. But the normally courageous Little Niangao was overwhelmed by the children’s enthusiasm.
Although Little Niangao couldn’t speak yet, he could understand some of what was being said. Hearing the words "like," "play," "brave," and with his mother standing by, he regained his confidence, and the tears brimming in his eyes were held back.
"Auntie, why doesn’t the little brother talk?" a bold little girl asked as she ran to Lin Xiaoguai’s side.
"Little brother is still very young. He needs to grow up a bit more before he can learn to speak, but he can understand some of what you’re saying," Lin Xiaoguai replied, patting her head.
"I see," the girl nodded, assuming the air of an elder and then turned and dashed back into the crowd towards Little Niangao.
"Xiao Guai, how old is your son?" Yu Xiaomiao asked with curiosity.
"He’ll be one year old on the twentieth of next month," Lin Xiaoguai responded. "He’s a bit late in learning to speak, and he still can’t call out to people."
"Could it be that there is a problem with his vocal cords? Have you taken him to see a doctor?" Liang Yuwei interjected.
Lin Xiaoguai was a bit displeased at hearing this, knowing the concern was well-intentioned, but as a mother, she naturally disliked hearing others suggest something was wrong with her son.
Yu Xiaomiao glanced at Liang Yuwei and spoke softly, "A child speaking late isn’t a big deal. As long as they cry at birth, they won’t be mute. There was a child in my hometown who only started speaking at four, and he later got accepted into a secondary vocational school. There’s no sign he’s any less capable than others."
Seemingly to add credibility, Yu Xiaomiao paused then added, "My sister is a barefoot doctor, and she said that as long as a child can hear after being born, they are unlikely to be mute."
"That’s true. I’ve taken Little Niangao to the hospital, and the doctor said the same thing." Lin Xiaoguai’s words were fictitious, but she had indeed worried whether her son might be mute and had specifically had him scanned by 001. The results had shown that the Hundred Refinement Fruits she’d given were not eaten in vain. Little Niangao’s body was outstanding among all infants of the same age globally, and in terms of potential, he was exceptional; any physical deficiency was out of the question.
Nevertheless, Yu Xiaomiao meant well, and Lin Xiaoguai appreciated it.
Liang Yuwei, realizing that her previous comment had been somewhat inappropriate, said with an embarrassed expression, "It was me who misspoke, leading to your discomfort."
After that, Lin Xiaoguai couldn’t hold any discontent, especially since she hadn’t intended to make a fuss over it.
However, she noticed that Yu Xiaomiao’s gaze towards Liang Yuwei was becoming increasingly strange, as if she was extremely surprised by her words.
"Are you in charge of looking after these children?" Lin Xiaoguai asked, looking at Yu Xiaomiao.
"Not quite," Yu Xiaomiao replied with a slight smile. "The children all like to play here, and since many military families don’t work, they look after the children whenever they’re free. It’s even more relaxed on Saturday afternoons and Sundays, with the older kids watching the younger ones, so we adults don’t have to worry."
