Chapter 84: Chapter 13 Unstoppable

"The shirts are actually pretty simple," Lin Xiaoguai said indifferently.

For her, armed with advanced sewing skills and the aid of spiritual power, making clothes that didn’t require embroidery was a very simple task.

Shen Chi raised his eyebrows. Even as a layman, he knew it wasn’t that simple, but he just assumed his wife was exceptionally talented.

However, a thought struck him, "Shall I buy you a sewing machine?"

Without waiting for Lin Xiaoguai to reply, he continued, "And a bicycle too, for easier commuting. Also, I should get a color TV and a fridge. Right, and a washing machine to make things easier for you." When they got married, he had intended to present the traditional wedding gifts of "three rounds and one sound," but since he already had a watch and a radio was no match for the newly available color TV, he thought to vary it a little.

"How about a Phoenix brand bicycle?" Lin Xiaoguai proposed, "It will be more convenient for you to travel between the residential and military areas. I don’t need to rush, so I can take the tram." She paused before adding, "There’s no need for a sewing machine either. It’s strenuous to use, and I might as well do without one."

Though she knew how to use the sewing machine available at the time, it was too much of a hassle and wouldn’t increase her efficiency. Besides, for her, handcrafting clothes not only provided practice but was also a way to enhance her spiritual power. Why not enjoy it?

Seeing that she wasn’t worried about spending money, Shen Chi thought it over and finally decided, "If you say we don’t need it, then we won’t get it. But we should still buy the bicycle... And perhaps the Phoenix bicycle as well."

Catching Lin Xiaoguai’s glare, Shen Chi quickly added the last sentence.

"Oh, and make me a vest," Shen Chi said ingratiatingly, "One that absorbs sweat. I can wear it during training."

"Don’t you have a vest in your military uniform?" Lin Xiaoguai frowned.

"It’s for wearing at home," Shen Chi said with a shameless grin.

Lin Xiaoguai’s mouth twitched, "We’ll see how I feel." She found Shen Chi a bit strange; he had never been so shameless in the past.

—She didn’t realize that although her attitude toward Shen Chi still had an unfeigned quality, it was infinitely kinder than the hostility of the previous life hidden behind her guard, inevitably leading Shen Chi to act quite differently.

Lin Xiaoguai neatly finished the edges of the shirt and tossed it at Shen Chi, "Sew the buttons on yourself!"

Shen Chi was bewildered, pointing at himself, "I should sew them?"

He’d never done such a thing in his life, certainly not?

"You can sew them or not. If you like wearing your shirt unbuttoned, no one will care," Lin Xiaoguai said with a cool expression, barely holding back a laugh.

She had spoken in a moment of irritation, but soon realized the idea was actually quite amusing and would surely be a headache for Shen Chi.

Shen Chi opened his mouth to say something, but Lin Xiaoguai had already gone into the kitchen to cook.

Shen Chi picked up Little Niangao with a pained expression, "Son, your mom is bullying your dad again."

"Ah ah ah—" Little Niangao cried out unhappily, which roughly meant—Dad, stop it, I want to play with the blocks!

Shen Chi was puzzled, why couldn’t his son speak yet?

Suddenly, thinking of something, his face twisted slightly, and he glanced guiltily at his busy wife in the kitchen.

Their son should have started talking by now, only the first word was a bit... He barely suppressed a laugh.

This stemmed from an incident with the Seventh Aunt from the Shen Family, a typical country old lady who was most skilled at throwing tantrums and cursing, though she wasn’t unreasonable. In fact, she was somewhat quick to anger and therefore got along well with Luo Yufang, who was often taken advantage of due to her docile nature.

Once, the Seventh Aunt was in town to buy wedding items for her grandson and stopped by for a meal, inevitably chatting and complaining with Luo Yufang about her dissatisfaction with her granddaughter-in-law.

"Sister-in-law, you didn’t see that girl’s attitude; she’s just a girl from the town. It sounds nice to say, but her family doesn’t earn as much as my Ah Cai, so who is she to look down upon? When she comes to eat, I make her chive and egg pancakes, but she complains about this and that to Ah Cai in private. When she left, she even took a bag full with her. Pah! If Ah Cai hadn’t already been with her, sending her back might have cost a life. What do you think, should I put up with such a troublemaker?"

As Luo Yufang was about to say some consoling words, Little Niangao, cuddling in his grandfather’s arms and playing with his fingers, suddenly said—

"Pah!"

The word was perfectly round and clear. Shen Chi was stunned at the moment and then overjoyed—his son had only ever made ah ah noises, and he was actually worried his son might be mute. He hadn’t dared to say anything to his wife or grandma, but regardless of what he said, at least it proved his son was healthy!
