Chapter 418: Chapter 31: Visiting_2
The next day, Shen Chi and Lin Xiaoguai got ready to head for Gulangyu. To ensure they could enjoy themselves to the fullest, they had made a point of booking a room at a hotel on the island.
The two first visited Shuzhuang Garden on Gulangyu. Once there, Lin Xiaoguai naturally didn’t want to miss the famous Canghai Garden. The garden, perched above the sea, elegantly blended delicate beauty with grandeur, captivating Lin Xiaoguai as she looked on, her lips occasionally uttering words of admiration.
"It would be so nice if Sisi and the others were here; we could take a family photo," Lin Xiaoguai sighed, just after asking a tourist to take a picture of them.
Shen Chi didn’t feel like talking anymore. He thought that Wanwan’s obsession with her children definitely needed to be addressed, or would there be any room left for him at home in the future?
Over the following days, they visited other famous sites including Sunshine Rock, Haoyue Garden, Yu Garden, Gulang Stone, Ancient Summer Cave, Dragon Head Mountain Village, and the Zheng Chenggong Memorial Hall, and she didn’t feel tired after more than ten days. To her regret, there were no organ or piano museums on Gulangyu, or else she could have had the pleasure of visiting them too.
"Shen Chi, how about we send Sisi and Qiaoqiao to learn a musical instrument when they grow up?" Lin Xiaoguai suggested.
The thing is, despite all her apparent skills and seemingly being very capable, Lin Xiaoguai had a very clear weakness; she couldn’t play any musical instrument. Whether it was whistling as a kid or learning the harmonica or erhu, she never managed to pick up any.
—She was the kind of person who just couldn’t get the hang of musical notes on an instrument.
"Why must they learn a musical instrument?" Shen Chi didn’t understand how the conversation had suddenly turned from discussing what special local products to buy to talking about the kids.
"Didn’t we see a child playing the violin a few days ago? Don’t you think that was a beautiful scene?" Lin Xiaoguai asked, squinting her eyes.
She had always felt that girls playing an instrument had a special charm. Since she probably wouldn’t progress in that area herself, she naturally hoped her daughter could fulfill her own wishes.
"It does look nice," Shen Chi thought and then said, "But Sisi and Qiaoqiao have to like it, too. I hated doing silly things like singing and dancing when I was little. The only thing I liked in this world was military songs. What if Sisi and Qiaoqiao don’t like these things like me?"
Lin Xiaoguai thought to herself that with such a dad, could her girls be even worse off than herself? At least she wasn’t completely tone-deaf!
Shen Chi didn’t understand why her mood suddenly dropped and thought his words might have hit her, so he comforted her, "If you really like it, try it. But I have to say, we mustn’t force the kids."
Lin Xiaoguai nodded, not feeling comforted at all.
She wondered if she could find something in the exchange store that might improve musical talent.
But did such a product even exist?
The day before they returned, they had already decided to visit Luo Ming’s house.
In fact, Luo Ming’s family also lived in Xia Men, but their seaside villa wasn’t suitable for permanent residence, so they stayed at another place which was only used occasionally for vacations.
Compared to the seaside villa, the place where Luo Ming’s family lived was more modest. Although it was still a villa, it was much smaller in area, and the yard was smaller too, but it looked very cozy. If one were to describe it, the seaside villa was for show, while the garden villa they were looking at now was for day-to-day family life.
"Chi, are you here?" Before they even rang the doorbell, the door opened from the inside, and a loud voice sounded.
Lin Xiaoguai looked up to see a tall, sturdy man at the door. As Shen Chi had described, his appearance was quite intimidating; his features were actually not bad, with bushy eyebrows and a straight nose. But the flesh on his cheeks, his bare forehead, a dark red scar at the corner of his eye, and the partially missing right arm made it hard to see him as a decent character.
"Brother Ming," Shen Chi greeted with a punch to the other’s shoulder.
"Wow, you’ve got quite a punch there, still a sharp blade, huh!" Luo Ming’s chest rattled as he bellowed with wide eyes.
"What are you talking about? What ’sharp blade’? I’m not old at all, okay?" Shen Chi retorted and involuntarily glanced at Lin Xiaoguai beside him. Seeing no change in her expression, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Hopefully, Wanwan doesn’t mind that he is much older than she is.
"This must be your wife, huh? She’s really pretty!" Luo Ming’s gaze landed on Lin Xiaoguai, and he immediately grinned in approval.
"Wanwan, this is Brother Ming," Shen Chi introduced.
"Hello, Brother Ming," Lin Xiaoguai nodded and smiled.
"Hey, nice to meet you, sister-in-law," Luo Ming replied, feeling somewhat uneasy, as this brother’s wife whom he’d never met before greeted him with such a refined smile.
After the pleasantries, Luo Ming led the couple inside.
"Brother, didn’t you say last time that you wanted to sell this house and buy a new one? Why haven’t you moved yet?" Shen Chi’s gaze swept over the villa as he asked.
"Don’t even mention it," Luo Ming sighed.
Shen Chi was about to ask, but then they entered the house and a short-haired middle-aged woman came forward, "Shen Chi, you’re here, and this must be your wife?"
This woman was medium in build, somewhat delicate, which made her seem particularly petite. Her skin was very fair, and she wore a smile on her face, her eyes warm as they rested on Lin Xiaoguai.
"Hello, sister-in-law," Lin Xiaoguai greeted, already knowing the drill without Shen Chi’s prompting.
