Chapter 414: Chapter 29: The Roundworm Incident_2

"Worm, worm..." Qiaoqiao sobbed and hiccupped while her little body trembled continuously. Lin Xiaoguai was almost moved to tears watching her.

"Worm?" Shen Chi noticed the words his daughter was uttering.

"I know, little sister got scared." The other three children had also been awakened by the noise, and seeing their sister cry, they were somewhat at a loss. Now hearing their dad’s words, Little Sun spoke up, "Today Ah Bing pulled a worm out of his throat. Qiaoqiao got scared."

"Yes, it was this long." Little Spring Breeze gestured to show the length, paused, and added, "It was as long as a bean sprout and also white."

"Little sister must have been scared by a dream." Sisi finally spoke.

Now articulate, the quadruplets quickly helped the three adults understand what was going on.

"Naughty baby, Mommy was almost scared to death." Lin Xiaoguai said, laughing and crying as she teasingly pinched Qiaoqiao’s nose.

"Not naughty, the worm is naughty, the worm bites baby." Qiaoqiao said coquettishly.

"Okay, the worm is naughty. Mommy has chased the worm away; can baby continue to sleep now?" Lin Xiaoguai softly coaxed.

"Mommy, Daddy, stay with baby." Qiaoqiao sobbed as she looked at Shen Chi.

Shen Chi frowned slightly, but Lin Xiaoguai immediately agreed and turned to Mrs. Zhang, "Mrs. Zhang, you go to sleep, we’ll watch the kids."

Mrs. Zhang nodded and left.

"Mommy, how can there be a worm in Ah Bing’s mouth?" With her parents by her side, Qiaoqiao wasn’t scared anymore and asked curiously.

The other three children also looked over curiously when they heard this.

"That’s called a roundworm. It didn’t come from his mouth; it crawled out from his stomach," Lin Xiaoguai explained as she patted Qiaoqiao soothingly.

"How can there be a worm in the stomach?" Little Sun asked, eyes wide.

"Because some babies don’t obey, they don’t wash their hands thoroughly. When they accidentally eat the dirty stuff on their hands, the worms grow from that dirt," Lin Xiaoguai explained in a way the children could understand.

"Then Ah Bing is not a good baby," Little Spring Breeze solemnly nodded. "Tomorrow, I will tell him to wash his hands often."

"Baby washes hands often, so there won’t be worms in the baby’s stomach, right?" Qiaoqiao blinked her big eyes.

"Of course not." As a pharmacist, Lin Xiaoguai wasn’t about to let her own daughter have worms in her stomach. "But Qiaoqiao must always maintain this, or else the worms might grow."

Qiaoqiao nodded vigorously, "Qiaoqiao is a good baby."

"Then Mommy, does Ah Bing still have worms in his stomach?" Sisi asked, frowning.

"There should still be," Lin Xiaoguai guessed.

"What can we do?" Little Sun asked with a scrunched face. "How can we catch all the worms?"

"You can eat pagoda candy."

"Pagoda candy?" All four siblings were puzzled. How can eating candy catch the worms?

Lin Xiaoguai smiled, "After eating pagoda candy, the worms in the stomach will fall asleep, and then they will all come out when you poop."

The quadruplets kind of understood it but still nodded to show they got it.

Little Spring Breeze clutched Lin Xiaoguai’s clothes asking, "Do we have any pagoda candy at home?"

"We can buy some," Lin Xiaoguai said.

"Then I want to buy some and give it to Ah Bing," Little Spring Breeze happily said.

Lin Xiaoguai thought for a moment, "Mommy will buy extra, and you can give a piece to each brother and sister living in the cottages at our staff’s residence, okay?" She figured her own children were guaranteed not to have worms, but the children living with the workers at the staff residence might not be so certain. After all, pagoda candy wasn’t expensive; it could be considered a benefit for the staff.

"Really? Can we go see our brothers and sisters?" Naturally drawn to older kids, Sisi and Qiaoqiao were fine, but Little Sun and Little Spring Breeze’s eyes lit up.

Lin Xiaoguai nodded, "But you need to sleep quickly, or else tomorrow morning if you don’t wake up, Mommy won’t take you to Zhi Xin Garden."

"We’ll sleep right away..." The quadruplets hurriedly got into bed.

"Wait, let Daddy hug us before we sleep," Sisi looked up at Shen Chi.

"Okay, let Daddy hug the babies."

Shen Chi leaned down, hugged all four kids wrapped in their blankets, touched their foreheads, and said, "Sleep quickly."

His gaze was somewhat worried as he glanced at Lin Xiaoguai.

The quadruplets soon fell asleep.

Lin Xiaoguai pulled up their blankets and was about to get up, but she stumbled and fell towards the floor.

Shen Chi, quick as a flash, caught her.

"My back..." Lin Xiaoguai gasped, leaning on his shoulder.

"This is you being stubborn," Shen Chi said, supporting her as they walked out, massaging her back.

"Speaking of stubborn, who is the real culprit here?" Back in the bedroom, Lin Xiaoguai complained somewhat discontentedly.

Shen Chi raised an eyebrow. "Who was biting my Adam’s apple just now?"

Lin Xiaoguai’s face turned red, and she burrowed under the covers, not speaking.

Shen Chi wrapped his arms around her waist, bringing her into his embrace, and kissed her forehead. "Sleep now."

Lin Xiaoguai closed her eyes and soon fell asleep.

Early in the morning, Shen Chi woke up and instinctively checked on Lin Xiaoguai in his arms, only to notice something was wrong.

Why is her face so red? Why are her hands so hot?

He touched her forehead to confirm she had a fever and quickly woke her up.

"Shen Chi...?" Lin Xiaoguai opened her eyes groggily.

"Do you know you have a fever?" Shen Chi was a bit angry.

He shouldn’t have indulged her to stay so long in the children’s room yesterday.

"A fever?" Lin Xiaoguai slowly reached for her forehead, finding nothing.

Her voice raspy, she said, "I just feel a bit heavy-headed."

Shen Chi frowned deeply, pulled out some fever-reducing medicine from the bedside table, mixed it with some water, and helped her drink it. Seeing her fall asleep quickly, he then picked up clothes to replace his pajamas.
