Chapter 209: Chapter 29: Reserved?
"Wanwan?"
Shen Chi carried Lin Xiaoguai into the room and gently kissed her forehead as he softly cooed.
Lin Xiaoguai tightened her grip around Shen Chi’s waist and buried her head deeper, her face entirely red in the spots Shen Chi couldn’t see, deciding she wouldn’t come out.
Noticing her small movements, Shen Chi’s mouth slightly curved upward, his gaze growing even softer, "Won’t you come out, please?"
Lin Xiaoguai played dead, belatedly remembering she had even forgotten to make dinner.
Shen Chi only thought for a moment before he understood the reason for her shyness. He lay down on the bed while holding her, his hand intermittently stroking her back. Although he didn’t know exactly what happened, seeing Wanwan’s reaction, he could guess that it had something to do with their private matters.
He was eager to know what Wanwan was thinking, but reason told him not to rush.
"Wanwan, let go of me first, shall I go cook please?" Shen Chi’s voice became even more tender.
Hearing this, Lin Xiaoguai paused, pulled the blanket beside her, and shrank into it, muttering, "You go."
Although Shen Chi still wanted to spend some intimate time with her, perhaps to coax some of her thoughts out of her, but with a family of three starving and only cold stoves in the kitchen, even if he could endure, he couldn’t bear to let his beloved wife and son go hungry.
After Shen Chi left, Lin Xiaoguai finally peeked out from the blankets, but the blush on her face wouldn’t fade.
She felt as if she had lost face from two lifetimes, especially in front of Shen Chi and their son.
Her thoughts were still somewhat chaotic, but one thing was clear—she liked Shen Chi, very much so. Even if love was still a bit away, it was within reach.
Upon realizing this, she didn’t feel the anguish she had expected, she just felt conflicted. In her heart, Lin Xiaoguai believed she shouldn’t like Shen Chi—not because she still clung to grievances from her past life, but because her pride was at play.
She was a proud person. In her previous life, she had been trapped by Shen Chi’s forceful methods for ten years; the resentment and suffocation she felt could only be imagined. Even now, her subconscious still resisted liking Shen Chi.
But Lin Xiaoguai wasn’t someone who liked to escape. Upon recognizing her feelings for Shen Chi, she found it difficult to accept and struggled with how she should act toward Shen Chi, never considering pretending nothing had happened.
Distractedly having her dinner, Lin Xiaoguai retreated to the bedroom early, leaving her son and kitchen chores to Shen Chi.
That night, when faced with Shen Chi’s advances, for the first time Lin Xiaoguai responded without any resistance, physically or mentally.
Shen Chi instantly noticed the difference, his eyes lighting up with an astonishing sparkle as his movements became increasingly gentle and lingering.
In the middle of the night, Lin Xiaoguai rested her head on Shen Chi’s arm. Shen Chi had fallen asleep, but she couldn’t, troubled by a question in her mind.
—Now that she understood her feelings for Shen Chi, should she confess?
Despite being conservative at heart, Lin Xiaoguai thought matters of the heart shouldn’t be hidden.
But... Lin Xiaoguai pursed her lips, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
So much so that until she drifted off into a drowsy sleep, Lin Xiaoguai hadn’t reached a conclusion.
In the morning, Lin Xiaoguai was awakened by a kiss from Shen Chi. Her eyes still blurry, she gazed up at Shen Chi’s face and frowned, blurting out, "Did you brush your teeth?"
Shen Chi, with a deadpan face, "I don’t mind your breath, and you’re asking me?" In fact, he had brushed his teeth, which made Lin Xiaoguai’s comment sting a bit more.
Realizing what she had said, Lin Xiaoguai instantly became fully alert, her face reddening slightly as she muttered softly, "Who said I mind?"
Her voice was low, but it didn’t escape Shen Chi’s ears, his eyes brightened, and he began to smile.
Even though he felt he was too easily placated, Shen Chi had always been defenseless against Lin Xiaoguai, a fact he had grown accustomed to by now.
After breakfast, Shen Chi first took Lin Xiaoguai to school. As for Little Niangao, he was still lazily sleeping in bed, and it wasn’t too late to take him to kindergarten after returning.
Under the dormitory building, Lin Xiaoguai looked at Shen Chi, hesitating slightly.
"What is it?" Shen Chi asked softly.
"Nothing." Lin Xiaoguai shook her head, "You should go back. It’s not good if Little Niangao wakes up and no one’s home."
Though Little Niangao could now dress, brush his teeth, and wash his face by himself, she was not at ease without adult supervision.
Shen Chi frowned slightly; he was sure Wanwan was about to say something but seeing her now, she had resolved not to say it.
