Chapter 201: Chapter 25 Help
Lin Xiaoguai hadn’t had time to react when a hard bump just above her buttocks darkened her expression, and she gritted her teeth, saying, "Go do some work!"
Shen Chi wore a pitying expression and couldn’t help but lean in to give Lin Xiaoguai a deep kiss before reluctantly returning to the chopping board to continue preparing the ingredients.
Caught off guard, Lin Xiaoguai nearly choked on her breath from his kiss and glared at him in annoyance.
"Add more cooking wine!"
"That’s enough, that’s enough, do you think salt is free?"
"Mix the starch evenly!"
"Just use the egg whites, not the yolks!"
Although Lin Xiaoguai’s words were tinged with irritation, Shen Chi actually seemed to enjoy it. Heaven knows how hard his days were without his wife at home. Not to mention their whiny son, and though only one person was missing from home, and even though Ping’an was added, it still felt quite empty.
Even though his previous words were teasing and cheesy, they were genuinely from his heart.
"Mom, Mom, look, I made this, isn’t it amazing?" Just then, Little Niangao came in with a clump of mud, proudly showing it off.
Shen Chi made a face of disgust. This darn kid had recently fallen in love with playing with mud. No matter what he said, he wouldn’t listen. The most troublesome part was his son also liked to hide the mud around the house, getting the clothes and bedding all dirty, necessitating daily washing.
Lin Xiaoguai bent down to take a closer look, then praised, "Little Niangao, is this a tractor you made? How impressive!" Although it looked a bit rough and vague, she could make out the general outline, and knowing her son, she quickly guessed what his creation was.
Little Niangao’s face flushed with happiness as he said, "Mom, you figured it out? Dad is so silly. He always guesses wrong and always throws my treasures away." His tone was extremely dissatisfied by the end.
Without Lin Xiaoguai mediating, the father and son, who had originally spent limited time together and were now alone together for the first time, clearly had many conflicts.
Little Niangao felt that his dad was nowhere near as good as his mom, always forbidding this and that, while Shen Chi found it headache-inducing that his son, who he thought was well-behaved and sensible, could actually be so mischievous.
Lin Xiaoguai glanced at Shen Chi and crouched down, speaking softly, "Little Niangao shouldn’t get angry at Daddy. Daddy has always been busy with hard work, so he doesn’t have time to spend with Little Niangao and doesn’t understand you enough. And when Daddy throws away your treasures, he is doing it for your own good. Think about it, isn’t mud dirty?"
Seeing Little Niangao reluctantly nod, she continued, "Eating something dirty can make us sick, and touching something dirty can make us sick as well. And isn’t Little Niangao very clean? Why bring dirty things into the house?"
"But I like playing with mud," Little Niangao said with a sad face.
"How about this," Lin Xiaoguai pretended to ponder, "From now on we won’t play with mud, and Mom will buy you some playdough instead. Does that sound good?" She didn’t know if there was playdough available at the moment, but she could always find it in the exchange store, or claim it was foreign merchandise or homemade. After all, she remembered that some playdough in the future was made from flour specifically so it wouldn’t harm children if accidentally ingested.
Although planning on keeping a low profile, there was no reason to make her child unhappy.
"Is playdough the same as mud?" Little Niangao asked, puzzled.
"It’s different. Playdough is very clean and comes in many beautiful colors, but like mud, you can shape it into all sorts of shapes," Lin Xiaoguai said with a light smile.
At first, Little Niangao was unhappy, but as he listened, his eyes lit up and he hugged her legs, saying, "Really, Mom?"
Lin Xiaoguai smiled and nodded.
"What about Brother Junzi and Taotao? They don’t have playdough," Little Niangao said, seeming troubled.
"Mom will buy some extra, and Little Niangao can play with them," Lin Xiaoguai said with a gentle laugh.
"That’s a deal then!"
"That’s a deal."
Turning to see Shen Chi, Little Niangao walked over somewhat sheepishly, grabbing his pants leg, saying, "Sorry, Dad, I won’t call you ’stinky dad, bad dad’ anymore."
Shen Chi wouldn’t get upset over a child’s angry words. His son showing such sensible behavior was more than he could resist. Looking into his son’s hopeful eyes, he reached out to touch his head, softly saying, "It’s okay. It’s good for Little Niangao to recognize his mistakes."
Saying this, his tender gaze fell on Lin Xiaoguai, who was smiling beside him.
It seemed they truly couldn’t do without Wanwan, but why didn’t he feel upset at all about that?
