Chapter 200: Chapter 24 I Miss You So Much_2
Luckily, people in this era were quite simple and honest. Because of that warning and disciplinary action, everyone speculated that Lu Rong had some issues with her character. Plus, given her unapproachable personality, there really wasn’t anyone gossiping about her.
On Friday afternoon, as Lin Xiaoguai was packing up her things to head back, she heard Yang Xiaoli, who had just returned, say, "Xiao Guai, there’s a man outside with a child looking for you."
She paused, her expression somewhat strange as she continued, "He also said he’s your lover."
Had it not been for the man’s decent appearance, she would have doubted his sanity.
Lin Xiaoguai was startled upon hearing this and went to the window to look down; indeed, Shen Chi was standing there.
Shen Chi saw her as well and waved at her, while Little Niangao jumped up and down excitedly, calling out for "Mommy".
Lin Xiaoguai smiled, made a gesture for them to wait a moment, and went downstairs.
Yang Xiaoli and Zhu Huixi were flabbergasted, staring at Lin Xiaoguai as they blurted out, "You’re married?!"
Lin Xiaoguai spread her hands and replied, "What else?"
It wasn’t until Lin Xiaoguai had packed her clothes and the things she wanted to take back that the two of them came to their senses. Zhu Huixi grabbed her with an incredulous face and said, "How could you be married?!"
"Yeah, it really doesn’t seem like it," Yang Xiaoli chimed in.
Indeed, by appearances, no one could tell Lin Xiaoguai had a child. Some might even believe she was only fifteen or sixteen years old.
"But that’s the truth." Shen Chi and Little Niangao were still waiting, so Lin Xiaoguai did not go into details and hurried down quickly.
"Mommy—" Little Niangao dove into Lin Xiaoguai’s arms, saying with a bit of grievance, "Mommy, I missed you so much."
"Mommy missed you too," Lin Xiaoguai replied as she kissed his face, moved by the reunion.
"Alright, let’s talk more when we get home," Shen Chi said tenderly to Lin Xiaoguai as he looked at her.
After the family of three vanished, the students at Capital University were still in a state of shock. Was that really... Lin Xiaoguai?
Although the terms "campus beauty" or "faculty flower" did not exist at the time, as a freshman, Lin Xiaoguai was well-known and quite reputable at Capital University. There were countless male students eager to win over this seemingly unattainable beauty.
Lin Xiaoguai had no idea how many male students were beating their chests in frustration over her. Back at home, holding her clingy son who refused to let go, she asked, "Did you have fun at home, Little Niangao? Has Daddy cooked for you?"
"No fun," Little Niangao pouted. "Daddy’s cooking tastes bad, and he ate most of the meat buns, Little Niangao only got to eat..."
He counted on his fingers, "Only five, and Daddy ate all the rest!"
Originally, Lin Xiaoguai had made twenty big meat buns, so it was a considerable understatement to say that Little Niangao felt aggrieved at only getting five.
Lin Xiaoguai touched his nose affectionately, "You little glutton, how big is your belly? Isn’t five enough?" She didn’t believe that Shen Chi would compete with his son for food; he had that much integrity.
Shen Chi, who had just put on a sullen face, immediately perked up, giving Little Niangao a challenging smile.
Little Niangao pursed his lips and persisted, "Also, Daddy doesn’t wash clothes properly, he even tore my little duck."
Understanding the need for "balance," Lin Xiaoguai pretended to glare at Shen Chi and said, "Daddy’s been naughty. How about we punish him by giving him two less pieces of braised pork tonight, okay?"
Little Niangao was satisfied, hugging Lin Xiaoguai’s head and showering her with kisses.
After their play, Lin Xiaoguai had Little Niangao sit in the living room to watch TV while she and Shen Chi went to the kitchen to make dinner together.
"How did you know I would return today?" Lin Xiaoguai asked as she cut the winter melon into chunks.
"I made a special point to ask around," Shen Chi replied as he was squatting on the floor gutting a fish. "There are graduates from Capital University in our unit as well, so I was informed that Capital University does not conduct room checks on Friday nights."
Lin Xiaoguai donned an apron and started to heat the wok to stir-fry the dishes.
"By the way, when did Ping’an go back? Nothing happened, right?"
"He just returned yesterday," Shen Chi replied, slightly puzzled. "What could happen? To me, Ping’an’s health doesn’t seem as serious as they say. He’s not much different from any other child."
Lin Xiaoguai thought to herself that with the Heart Nourishing Pills, of course, Ping’an wouldn’t appear any different from other children.
"That’s good then. And what about General Han Kuang, has he been discharged?" Knowing Shen Chi did not have much respect for the man, Lin Xiaoguai always referred to him formally as "General Han Kuang."
"How should I know?" Shen Chi replied indifferently as he placed the gutted grass carp on the chopping board, proceeding to slice it as Lin Xiaoguai had shown him.
"And has your sister visited?" Lin Xiaoguai poured soy sauce into the wok as she asked.
"She came twice, and took a bunch of things," Shen Chi said as he began marinating the sliced fish.
He was obviously in a good mood, not because he cared about those things, but because one’s level of concern for another is often measured by the gifts one gives—a direct manifestation of their feelings. Clearly, Shen Chi was very pleased with the answer Han Shouzhen provided.
Lin Xiaoguai glanced at him and casually asked, "Have you adjusted to the last few days?"
"Do I even need to say? Everything felt off without you at home, and I couldn’t sleep peacefully at night," Shen Chi answered, genuine about his discomfort. Even if he had been accustomed to it, he wouldn’t admit it.
He rested his chin on Lin Xiaoguai’s shoulder, whispering plaintively into her ear, "I kept dreaming about you at night, only to wake up and find the bed empty next to me."
A blush crept up Lin Xiaoguai’s face as she pushed him away shyly, "Stop flirting, stay out of the way."
Shen Chi chuckled at her reddening earlobes, maintaining a serious face as he said, "Who’s flirting? You’ll know what I mean tonight."
The implication of his words was crystal clear.
Lin Xiaoguai blushed even more and protested, "Shen Chi, what exactly were you dreaming about?"
Shen Chi wiped his hands dry and wrapped his arms around her waist, kissing her ear, "Do I need to tell you that?"
His deep voice carried a hint of huskiness, "Wanwan, I missed you so much."
