Chapter 146: Chapter 44 Rice Noodles_2
He was still pondering that with two more people bringing children along, maybe he could have a little more fun teasing his wife privately.
Of course, it might be his wife who ended up teasing him.
The first stop was the Magic City Botanical Garden, which at that time didn’t approach the scale it would achieve later; many of the well-known exhibition areas had not yet made their debut. However, Lin Xiaoguai really enjoyed the natural essence of this patch of green heaven and earth. Especially compared to the future, the air at that time was immeasurably cleaner. Surrounded by countless plants, he felt his heart settle down, a delightful sense of tranquility that was hard to put into words.
Shen Xiu was completely looking for novelty, while Chen Han and Su Qianqian focused solely on each other, with the scenery around them merely serving as a backdrop. Meanwhile, Yaya and Little Niangao were incredibly excited, running around and cheering, and although Little Niangao fell on the lawn several times, he kept on giggling.
As for Shen Chi, he didn’t have the slightest appreciation for the beautiful scenery in front of him; his attention was all on Lin Xiaoguai. Seeing the rare expression of contentment on her face brought his mood soaring too.
Indeed, it was right to bring Wanwan out for some fun.
To people from the future, this botanical garden might seem a bit mundane, but leisure options were limited in that era, and unlike future generations, they didn’t have the internet. One couldn’t just search online for all the information, beautifully paired with images, and become instantly knowledgeable. In this era, there were still people who hadn’t seen an apple, didn’t know what bananas tasted like, let alone have a comprehensive understanding of plants.
Lin Xiaoguai was pleased, though, that even though there were other tourists in the botanical garden at that time, it wasn’t as crowded as in later years, which allowed people to enjoy the scenery without feeling overwhelmed.
Leaving the botanical garden, the two children were already tired; Little Niangao was carried by Shen Chi while Yaya sat in Chen Han’s arms. They then went to a restaurant to solve the dinner dilemma.
"Let’s go for rice noodle soup," Su Qianqian suggested. "I heard from my classmate that there’s a good place nearby."
Lin Xiaoguai noticed that Su Qianqian’s mood was significantly higher than when they arrived, thanks largely to Chen Han’s influence.
Upon finding the rice noodle place Su Qianqian had mentioned, Shen Chi called out, "Boss, six bowls of rice noodles!"
The noodle shop wasn’t big, but it was full of customers, suggesting the taste was expectedly good.
"Do you want big bowls or medium bowls?" the shop owner asked loudly while she was cleaning a table.
"Two large bowls, three medium bowls..." Glancing at Yaya, Shen Chi asked, "Do you have small bowls?"
"Yes, yes." The shop owner was a bit surprised and understood when she saw there was a little girl among them, saying, "Would you like any side dishes?"
She figured those bringing children might opt for a heartier meal.
"What do you have?"
"Preserved vegetables, fresh bamboo shoots, green vegetables, radishes, pork strips, beef brisket, and poached eggs," the shop owner listed off the side dishes swiftly, then added, "Vegetables are ten cents a portion, poached eggs twenty cents, pork strips thirty cents, beef brisket 40 cents."
"Pick whatever you want to eat," Shen Chi told everyone, then, sweeping his eyes over Lin Xiaoguai, Shen Xiu, and Yaya, he said to the shop owner, "I’ll have one medium bowl with bamboo shoots and pork strips, one medium bowl with beef brisket, one large bowl with vegetables, and one small bowl with a poached egg."
His eye contact made it clear to anyone observant that the bamboo shoots and pork strips were for Lin Xiaoguai, the beef brisket for Shen Xiu, the vegetables for himself, and the poached egg for Yaya.
"Add two more servings of beef brisket to the vegetable one," Lin Xiaoguai added.
Shen Chi loved meat, with beef being his absolute favorite.
Glancing at Shen Chi, who appeared expressionless but was actually very happy, Chen Han spoke up, "Place pork strips in the remaining two large bowls and beef brisket in the medium one."
"Ah, no need, I’ll have the pork strip noodles," Su Qianqian protested, blushing, but no one seemed to listen.
When the noodles arrived at the table, Shen Chi was about to place his medium bowl in front of Lin Xiaoguai but noticed she picked up the small bowl, causing him to pause.
"Forgot my appetite, did you?" Lin Xiaoguai rolled her eyes, placing the medium bowl of noodles in front of Yaya, not missing the little girl’s disappointed expression beforehand.
Yaya’s sadness turned to joy, and now it was Shen Chi’s turn to feel dejected—that was the bowl he had specifically ordered for his wife, who loved fresh bamboo shoots and sauced pork strips.
Lin Xiaoguai ignored him, taking half of the poached egg from her bowl for Yaya and feeding the other half bit by bit to Little Niangao.
"Auntie, let’s share this half and half." Seeing Lin Xiaoguai’s bowl was empty of other ingredients, Yaya scooped half of her bamboo shoots and sauced pork strips into hers.
Shen Chi also reacted, moving half of his beef brisket into Lin Xiaoguai’s bowl. She glanced at the beef covering the rim of the bowl and, ignoring Shen Chi’s wistful look, transferred most of it over to Yaya’s bowl.
Meanwhile, Su Qianqian blushed with embarrassment and hesitated before finally moving half of her beef brisket into Chen Han’s bowl, murmuring, "I can’t eat this much."
Chen Han couldn’t help but laugh, sharing half of his pork strips with her, his voice gentle, "I also can’t eat this much."
Su Qianqian’s face turned even redder, and she kept her head down, unable to meet anyone’s eyes.
Witnessing this, Lin Xiaoguai and Shen Chi exchanged a knowing smile—a promising development seemed to be unfolding between the couple.
"Mommy, I want meat too!" Little Niangao protested, noticing everyone else had meat to eat.
"Sure, let’s get some meat for our baby," Lin Xiaoguai said, beginning to feed him some beef brisket, but he turned his head away, pointing at Yaya, "Want the same!"
"Baby, you can’t eat as much as your sister," Lin Xiaoguai thought her son was just being greedy.
Little Niangao continued pointing at Yaya, insisting, "The same," his voice clearly agitated.
Realization dawned on Lin Xiaoguai as her eyes widened, "Could it be Little Niangao wants his own bowl just like his sister?"(To be continued.
