My Happy Daily Life After Being Reborn -
Chapter 130 - 36 Being a Father
Chapter 130: Chapter 36 Being a Father
Shen Chi returned to find Lin Xiaoguai holding a book, yet her expression clearly indicated her mind was elsewhere.
"What’s wrong?" he asked as he took off his coat and kissed her cheek.
Lin Xiaoguai jumped, looked up to see him, and breathed a sigh of relief, though her tone was irritated, "You’re back."
"What has happened?" Shen Chi repeated his question.
"My niece Lin Xiaoniao has run away from home," Lin Xiaoguai explained after sharing the story of raising Lin Xiaoniao and the reasons behind her running away. She sighed, "That child is very bright, and she probably left fearing that my second sister-in-law would sell her."
She had always considered her second sister-in-law to be incredibly foolish without any limits. If her second brother hadn’t been so weak and unattractive, her mom wouldn’t have arranged the marriage, and her dad wouldn’t have allowed such a woman into the family.
That woman was the most selfish person she had ever seen. Using the absence of a male heir as an excuse, she was extremely stingy. It wasn’t just with her daughter; even her second brother probably didn’t get to eat meat more than once a year. The proverb says that it takes centuries to sleep on the same bed, meaning a husband and wife relationship is close, but in her second sister-in-law’s eyes, her second brother was more a servant and a tool for producing sons than a husband.
After she had grown up and understood the situation, she couldn’t stand it and had advised her second brother several times to assert himself. However, he showed no spine, agreeing with her and then doing nothing. Eventually, seeing him so weak-willed, she stopped bothering.
Shen Chi, touching his nose upon hearing this, knew it wasn’t his place to say much, since he was actually the root cause of the problem. He picked up Lin Xiaoguai’s half-drunk cup of water, finished it, and changed the subject to a relatively safer one, "Do you think your niece will come to find you?"
"No," Lin Xiaoguai shook her head without hesitation, "Xiao Niao is stubborn and, due to my second brother and sister-in-law, she would feel too ashamed to see me. Unless she’s made some kind of scene, she won’t come looking for me."
"It will be troublesome then. A minor girl working outside has too many dangers," Shen Chi quickly responded, seeing the topic heading in a dangerous direction.
"Exactly," Lin Xiaoguai was worried. Based on what had happened in her previous life when Lin Xiaoniao came to find her, the girl must have caused some trouble, but she was uncertain whether this life had already changed.
Shen Chi tapped on the table, musing, "We’ll have to wait for news from back home. At least we need to know which direction she went. Then we can follow the route to search for her." What he didn’t say was that even so, the chances of finding her were slim. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Lin Xiaoguai knew this all too well without him saying it.
Meanwhile, they were sighing in helplessness, but back at Fengyuan Village, chaos had erupted.
"What are you doing, how can you abuse a good child like this?" Li Fangmei, holding the slender, injured, and terrified Lin Xiaomao, screamed at Zhu Fen.
Zhu Fen retorted defiantly, "What did I do? Can’t I discipline my own daughter without interference from outsiders?"
Li Fangmei’s face turned red with anger, "Fine, an outsider, am I!"
Zhu Fen, smug, was about to say more when she heard a firewood hatchet whizz through the air in front of her. She trembled with fear, stumbling and falling to the ground, scurrying away.
These events unfolded instantaneously, and at that moment, the hatchet crashed into the glass window of her house. The glass shattered, spraying fragments all around her.
Lin Nianqiang approached rapidly, his gaunt figure emanating menace as he glared at Zhu Fen sitting on the ground, shaking, "Speak those words again, you vile woman, I dare you?"
The commotion wasn’t small, and the neighbors poked their heads out, retreating at the sight of Lin Nianqiang’s demeanor.
Oh no, Lin Nianqiang was about to lose it.
"Nianqiang, don’t be rash, let’s talk this through calmly!" An elder from the Lin Family clan hurried forward to mediate.
"Talk this through?" Lin Nianqiang pointed at Zhu Fen, "Ask this woman what she said to my sister-in-law just now? My little brother always treated her with respect, when did it become her turn to get cocky?"
He was breathing heavily, and the younger members of the Lin Family clan rushed to support him, "Uncle, don’t get upset, it’s not worth harming your health."
Nobody was on Zhu Fen’s side today. Although Lin Nianqiang had a short fuse, he was reasonable enough. You wouldn’t get into trouble with him unless you provoked him first, and as for Zhu Fen, she had no good reputation in the Lin Family. She was practically synonymous with unreasonableness.
