My Happy Daily Life After Being Reborn
Chapter 124 - 33: Luggage

Chapter 124: Chapter 33: Luggage

Shen Chi obviously knew about Lin Xiaoxi’s arrival and brought back not only the dishes from the family cafeteria but also two bottles of Maotai.

"Xiaoxi, shall we have a few drinks later?" Shen Chi said with a smile as he transferred the food from the lunchbox to the plates.

His casual manner made it seem as if the two were old friends that had known each other for years. Lin Xiaoxi, feeling a bit awkward, relaxed and smiled, "Sure, I haven’t tried genuine Maotai before."

Lin Xiaoxi watched Shen Chi help her wash the vegetables and asked, "Where did this Maotai come from?"

"I asked someone for it." Shen Chi didn’t want to delve into details and shook the green onion in his hand, asking, "Should I chop this into sections or mince it?"

"Mince it." Lin Xiaoguai responded and then said to Lin Xiaoxi, "Xiao Guai, why don’t you go to the living room to watch TV? Just keep an eye on Little Niangao for me."

Lin Xiaoxi nodded and carried her nephew to the living room, feeling much relieved inside. It seemed that her younger sister was indeed living a good life.

At the dinner table, Shen Chi and Lin Xiaoxi drank and chatted. Shen Chi brought up most of the topics, asking about family affairs, business matters, and the children’s situation, creating a rather pleasant atmosphere.

"Xiao Guai, how’s Sister Hanfang doing these days?" Lin Xiaoguai asked Lin Xiaoxi, giving her a shrimp.

Lin Xiaoxi’s expression froze, and she didn’t hide anything from her sister. "Not very well. She was recently diagnosed with a cold uterus. I’m not rushed about having children, but Mom is really worried, afraid she won’t live to see a grandchild. Hanfang is anxious too. They’ve been trying all sorts of things, which is why I don’t really want to stay at home lately."

Lin Xiaoguai was stunned, then remembered that something similar indeed happened in her previous life. Aunt had traveled everywhere to seek remedies for Sister Hanfang. Once, she had been hit lightly by a wooden cart on her return, and though it seemed minor at first, she couldn’t get up the following day and passed away not long after from not being able to fulfil her wish of holding a grandchild. This issue also caused a rift between Xiao Guai and Sister Hanfang. It wasn’t until Xiao Xue nearly died from meningitis that the couple faced adversity together and reconciled.

She thought back; Aunt was probably struck by the wooden cart around harvest time, which would have been about half a year ago.

She didn’t really understand what illness Aunt had, but as she aged, she became prone to sickness and never fully recovered, refusing to go to the hospital for checks. Based on her guess, Aunt’s main issue was likely weakness from overworking in her youth and not having enough to eat, leading to insufficient blood and energy as she aged. At home, she had prepared several medicinal wines with spiritual spring water and precious herbs for her and Second Aunt, and she also sent them other items like red dates, lotus seeds, and walnuts to nourish the blood.

"Xiao Guai, I hope Sister Hanfang isn’t taking any unconventional remedies?" she pretended to be surprised as she asked.

"Indeed." Lin Xiaoxi also looked distressed, "There’s always a strange smell at home that just won’t go away."

"When you go back, tell Sister Hanfang to stop taking those remedies," Lin Xiaoguai sternly advised. "I’ve heard of many cases where people make minor ailments serious by misusing remedies."

"Is it really that serious?" Lin Xiaoxi was startled.

"Would I lie to you?" Lin Xiaoguai glared at him, "Cold uterus can be a small or serious issue, but since Sister Hanfang has already given birth to Xiao Xue, it shouldn’t be too severe. More medicine isn’t always better. Haven’t you heard that all medicines have their toxins? I think it’s better to use medicinal diets for treatment instead of taking more medicine—things like Chicken Cooked with Motherwort, Red Flower Breeding Egg, Angelica Milkwort Wine, Shrimp Stew with Tofu, Five-spice Lamb, Sparrow Porridge, and Cordyceps Chicken Stew..."

Lin Xiaoguai mentioned a long list of medicinal diets, and seeing Lin Xiaoxi looking confused, she added, "I’ll write you a list later with all the recipes. I’ll also prepare some ingredients that you might not have at home."

Lin Xiaoxi wanted to refuse, but meeting Lin Xiaoguai’s stern gaze, he weakly touched his nose and conceded, "Alright, I’ll listen to you."

When they were kids and he didn’t know better, she would listen to him. But as they grew up and he learned to let her have her way, especially since she became well-educated and opinionated, it turned out that he was the one following her ideas.

Shen Chi watched this with amusement on the side, not expecting Wanwan to be so assertive, although she seemed to always be quite assertive with him...
