Chapter 111: Chapter 26 **_2

After he prepared the cold dishes, cured what needed curing, and added the necessary ingredients, Shen Chi boiled the pork knuckle while Lin Xiaoguai, with the help of Yu Xiaomiao, moved the dining table into the guest room and together they set up two round tables.

By now, the preparations were almost complete, and Yu Xiaomiao bade farewell with the freshly awakened Yaya. No matter how much Lin Xiaoguai tried to retain her, Yu Xiaomiao wasn’t willing to stay, afraid that she might be called down for dinner again, which would be quite improper.

Seeing it was still early and Little Niangao was still napping, Lin Xiaoguai watched the stove fire while beginning to stitch shoe soles.

Although she and Shen Chi wore shoes she had made herself, the soles they used were purchased from the exchange store and were of good quality and diverse styles. However, the thousand-layer soles were being stitched for Uncle, Second Aunt, and Xiao Ping.

These elders had calluses from the hard labor they did when they were younger, so regular soles felt uncomfortable to them; they needed the specially made uneven thousand-layer soles to feel comfortable.

But both Uncle’s and Second Aunt’s ages prevented them from making thousand-layer soles, and as for the younger generation, Sister Hanfang was not good with needlework and had to hire a tailor for her shoes, while Sister Xiao Hua from Xiao Ping’s household, Sister Li Qin from Xiao’an’s household, and Sister Juanjuan from Xiao Le’s household could do needlework and even make thousand-layer soles but couldn’t make this special kind.

At home, Lin Xiaoguai had made several pairs of cloth shoes for them when she had spare time. Having almost finished making clothes for the entire family, she saw the weather getting colder and planned to make two pairs of cotton shoes to send back home.

By the time Shen Chi returned, Lin Xiaoguai had finished one pair of soles and was cutting the upper part of the cotton shoes.

"Back already?" Lin Xiaoguai quickly put her things down and asked, looking behind him, "How come you’re alone?"

After changing his shoes, Shen Chi said, "They’ll be here in a bit; I came back early to see if you needed help with anything."

"I’ve got everything prepared," Lin Xiaoguai said, glancing at him.

"Did you buy the liquor? Did you borrow the round tables from the cafeteria?" Shen Chi inquired, thinking that Wanwan might forget one and be unable to do the other.

"All set," Lin Xiaoguai put away the things she was handling.

"Who helped you move the round tables?" Shen Chi asked, surprised.

Lin Xiaoguai gave him a puzzled look, "I just asked if they could help me move them back, and the cafeteria staff helped me do it."

Shen Chi’s mouth twitched, cursing "animal" silently, knowing instinctively why those lazybones at the cafeteria were so eager; they were obviously smitten by her beauty.

A strong sense of crisis arose in his heart. Wanwan’s beauty and elegance always had him suppressing those young bastards at the military compound, but he feared it would be dangerous if she went to university.

Shen Chi narrowed his eyes, thinking of several methods to declare his territory and eliminate potential rivals, planning to enforce them later.

Setting his thoughts aside for the moment, Shen Chi moved to the kitchen and, finding everything in order, asked, "Can these cold dishes be served now?"

"Yes, the bowls and chopsticks can be set out too," Lin Xiaoguai responded.

Shen Chi didn’t need Lin Xiaoguai’s help and finished everything on his own, even setting out the foldable chairs they previously had.

Just then, the doorbell rang, and Shen Chi and Lin Xiaoguai quickly went to greet their guests.

Standing at the door was a line of men in olive green military uniforms, with a tall, slim young man at the forefront smiling, "Sister-in-law, sorry for interrupting."

The others also greeted loudly, "Hello, sister-in-law!"

"Hello, everyone!" Lin Xiaoguai was stunned by their boisterous voices, recovering only after a moment to respond with a smile.

After letting everyone in, Shen Chi introduced, "This is my wife, Lin Xiaoguai."

"This is Zhong Fei, Wang Xiaolong, Pang Yuan, Ren Hong, Zhu Jin, Zhou Hu, Yue Zhongtian, Fang Dawei, Feng Hai, Lin Zhong, Gu Chao, Li Qunfeng, Wu Tao, Xu Jinjun, Zhou Huai Country, and you already know Jiang Wei, so I won’t mention him again."

Shen Chi pointed to each individually, leaving Lin Xiaoguai, despite her good memory, somewhat flustered. She smiled and said, "Everyone, please sit, don’t be shy."

Everyone took their seats, and Lin Xiaoguai went into the kitchen to start cooking.

Lin Xiaoguai’s culinary skills were beyond doubt; she presented beautifully delicious dishes, garnering praise from everyone. Except for Xu Jinjun and Zhou Huai Country who had previously tasted her cooking, everyone else was amazed.

"Shen Chi, you lucky guy. With your wife’s cooking skills, she could open a restaurant," Jiang Wei said after sipping some white wine.

The others echoed—

"Exactly, before coming here, I thought my wife’s cooking was decent, but compared to sister-in-law’s, it really is..."

"That’s right, this braised pork is fatty but not greasy at all, really delicious."

"And this sweet and sour carp is no less tasty than what they serve in the big restaurants back in my hometown."

"Brother Shen, does your sister-in-law have any intention of working in the cafeteria?"

The asker didn’t hold much hope, as Lin Xiaoguai’s demeanor and elegance already set her apart from those cafeteria aunties. As expected, Shen Chi shook his head, "My sister-in-law needs to take care of the children as well; she doesn’t have the time to work at the cafeteria."

As the dishes continued to be served, Shen Chi occasionally laid down his chopsticks to help out in the kitchen, although Lin Xiaoguai wasn’t too busy.

Once both tables were fully served, Lin Xiaoguai intended to have a quick meal in the kitchen but was called to the table by Shen Chi and seated next to him.

"Have some of this." Shen Chi pushed a small bowl towards her; Lin Xiaoguai noticed it was filled with dishes, clearly picked out for her in advance and looking very clean.

Some guests noticed it just now, others had seen it earlier but hadn’t mentioned it. Now they all started teasing.

"Oh〜"

That elongated tone carried unabashed jealousy, and even though Lin Xiaoguai’s heart was open, she couldn’t help but blush.

Yet Shen Chi didn’t blush or falter; tapping his chopsticks on the bowl he said, "Eat up and stop teasing my wife."

The guests then shut up, but their expressions grew even more jealous.

Lin Xiaoguai’s face turned redder, but a secret sweetness grew in her heart.(To be continued. If you like this novel, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for it, and provide a monthly ticket. Your support is my biggest motivation. Mobile users please read at m.qidian.com.)
