Chapter 106: Chapter 24 Yu Xiaomiao’s Request
"It’s all my fault," Yaya said with a dejected face, looking down. "Mom told me to stay away from Aunt Liang, insisting she must be a bad person. I shouldn’t have let my little brother eat what she gave."
Her voice took on a crying tone, "The soda costs five cents a bottle, I even held back from fighting over it with my little brother—"
Seeing Yaya cry her eyes out, Lin Xiaoguai and Shen Chi exchanged a helpless look. Both were originally furious, but Yaya’s crying somehow calmed them down.
"It’s okay, Yaya, don’t cry anymore. Your little brother is still sleeping, and if he wakes up, he will definitely feel bad," Lin Xiaoguai crouched down and picked Yaya up, cooing softly.
Hearing this, Yaya immediately clamped her mouth shut, burped, turned her head to see Little Niangao still sleeping quietly, and then sighed in relief.
"Auntie, I’m sorry, can you please not be angry at me?" she hugged Lin Xiaoguai’s neck and sobbed.
"Auntie isn’t angry," Lin Xiaoguai wiped her tears. "I’m actually happy because Yaya is a child who can reflect on her mistakes."
"Really?" Yaya asked with bright eyes.
She liked Aunt Lin very much and took the task of taking care of her little brother very seriously. She was worried Aunt Lin might not like her because she failed to do what she promised.
"Really," Lin Xiaoguai said earnestly.
After Yu Xiaomiao came over to carry the still-sleeping Yaya back, Shen Chi and Lin Xiaoguai finally discussed the previous incident.
"What exactly happened?" Shen Chi asked.
Lin Xiaoguai repeated her guess and then said, "The question now is, did Liang Yuwei do it on purpose or was it an accident?"
Shen Chi’s gaze turned cold. "Whether it was intentional or not, the damage has been done, and my son shouldn’t have to suffer in vain."
Lin Xiaoguai found herself agreeing with what others might see as his unreasonable words. For her, having lost and then regained Little Niangao, he was her weak spot.
"What do you plan to do?" Lin Xiaoguai asked.
"I’m not good at laying a hand on a woman, but doesn’t she have a husband?" Shen Chi’s smile was faint.
He could think of ways for Lin Xiaoguai to deal with Liang Yuwei, and he trusted that with Lin Xiaoguai’s intelligence, handling that woman wouldn’t be difficult. But he did not want to do that.
His Wanwan only needed to live a safe and happy life; he would handle everything else.
He might have expectations of his wife, but those expectations were not about having a background that could help him or about her being cunning and schemantic, nor did he need her to be smooth in social interactions. What he hoped for was simply that she would not be a woman who held him back and embarrassed him when out in public.
This expectation was realistic, but in some ways, overly ideal.
Shen Chi was such a contradictory man. Full of ambition and eager for power, but he never considered taking shortcuts.
He exhibited many typical male flaws, but there was one thing he did not lack— the responsibility expected of a man.
Lin Xiaoguai glanced at him as if she understood something, then quickly lowered her eyelids, her thoughts rippling slightly.
With Yaya around, Yu Xiaomiao also found out why Little Niangao had been sick and brought some eggs to see him the next day.
"Little Niangao is fine, you take these eggs back for Yaya," Lin Xiaoguai tried to return the eggs.
The eggs, although not much in her eyes, mattered more given the other family’s situation.
"Don’t be polite with me," Yu Xiaomiao shook her head. "Do you think I don’t know how much good food Yaya eats every time she comes here? If you don’t accept it, I’ll think you despise me."
She glanced helplessly at her daughter, who was staring with an "how do you know" expression on her face. Was she supposed to be blind? The girl had been eating less these past few days, a clear sign that she had been eating out.
Lin Xiaoguai knew the quality of the food at her house as Yu Xiaomiao had visited a few times, but home had really nothing good; these eggs were bought sparingly with saved money.
Hearing this, Lin Xiaoguai found it hard to decline any further, and took them inside to see Little Niangao.
Compared to yesterday, Little Niangao’s complexion had improved a lot, less listless than before, but no longer fussy, he was now nestled in bed playing with a small toy truck.
"Little brother, are you feeling any discomfort?" Yaya ran to the bedside and asked.
