Chapter 102: Chapter 22 Performance Desire
Lin Xiaoguai had never laughed so much before; her entire body collapsed onto the sofa, curling into a ball as her shoulders shook with giggles.
Little Niangao found it amusing and climbed on top of her, curiously watching her.
Yu Xiaomiao felt helpless, looking at her oblivious daughter, she only felt a headache coming on.
Fortunately, Xiao Guai seemed to really like Yaya. To know, although adults seldom quarrel with kids, Yaya’s "no holds barred" personality really did cause her a fair share of trouble. Like the indirect food-begging behavior just now, which was quite awkward for adults who were not financially well-off, even though they would not hold it against Yaya, there were quite a few petty people who thought it was the adults teaching their children to act that way.
"Yaya, if you call me ’mommy,’ I’ll always give you canned fruit to eat, okay?" Lin Xiaoguai teased.
At this, Yu Xiaomiao was truly at a loss whether to laugh or cry.
At her words, Yaya looked anxiously at Yu Xiaomiao, then whispered in Lin Xiaoguai’s ear, "Auntie, mommy is right there, can I call you that when mommy isn’t around?"
Lin Xiaoguai couldn’t help herself and laughed so hard she nearly lost her breath.
Yu Xiaomiao, although she didn’t know what her daughter had said, suspected it wasn’t anything good and said with a stern face, "Wang Zhizheng!"
Yaya stuck out her tongue, "Mommy, please don’t get mad."
Yu Xiaomiao rubbed her forehead, no longer wanting to deal with her.
Yaya was a gluttonous child, but she was not selfish with food. As it happened, even though Little Niangao was eating slower than she did, she didn’t take the opportunity to eat more. She would patiently take turns, one bite for herself and one for Little Niangao, each time waiting patiently for Little Niangao to finish.
In the end, when Little Niangao refused to eat more, she asked Lin Xiaoguai, then finished the remaining canned fruit on her own.
After finishing the mango canned fruit, Yaya’s attention finally moved elsewhere. Compared to her own monotonous home, Lin Xiaoguai’s home, which was very cozily and beautifully decorated, evidently won her favor. She would point to this and that, asking naive and interesting questions.
"What’s this?"
"It’s a color TV."
Hearing that this big black box was a color TV, Yaya’s eyes lit up, "Auntie, can I watch it?"
Lin Xiaoguai smiled and turned on the TV for her, switching to a channel that was showing a cartoon.
With the kids occupied with their own entertainment, Lin Xiaoguai and Yu Xiaomiao sat aside without disturbing them.
"Do you plan to grow flowers on the balcony?" Yu Xiaomiao noticed the flowerpots on the balcony.
Lin Xiaoguai nodded, "Just for amusement, since there’s not much to do on weekdays."
She did have the intention to earn some extra money by selling flowers to prepare for a future move to the Capital, but it was best not to broadcast such plans.
Many people in the Military Family Area would have a pot or two of plants, and Yu Xiaomiao thought nothing of it, merely asking, "Aren’t you planning to find a job?"
"No, my son can’t be without someone right now," Lin Xiaoguai said with a smile.
"That makes sense," Yu Xiaomiao nodded understandingly.
"Xiao Miao, are you planning to look for a job?" Lin Xiaoguai guessed.
Yu Xiaomiao nodded, "Yes, Yaya is also going to kindergarten soon. I’m planning to find a job that’s nearby and during the daytime, to make it easier to take her to school and pick her up."
Lin Xiaoguai raised an eyebrow, "Have you got any plans in mind?"
"I wish I did," Yu Xiaomiao said with a wry smile, "With just a primary school education, it’s not so easy to find work in this city."
Lin Xiaoguai fell silent; job hunting and qualifications were an age-old issue.
Although she could be described as having foreknowledge, other than knowing that doing business at that time was quite profitable, she really had no other advice.
Besides, although individual entrepreneurs were not as cautious as they had been in the previous two years, they were still looked down upon. Although she found Yu Xiaomiao to be quite decent, their relationship wasn’t close enough to involve opinions on such matters.
"Keep looking, and you’ll find something eventually." In the end, that was all the comfort Lin Xiaoguai could offer.
Over the next two days, knowing where Lin Xiaoguai lived, Yaya made daily visits. Since Yu Xiaomiao wasn’t accompanying her, Lin Xiaoguai had fewer concerns and prepared a serving of food for Yaya just as generously as for Little Niangao, even giving her more since some foods Little Niangao couldn’t eat posed no problem for her.
"Auntie, is it really true that Little Niangao can’t eat this?" Catching Little Niangao’s envious gaze, Yaya asked regretfully as she pointed to the candied apples on the plate.
"Yaya, you eat it. Little Niangao can have some apple puree," Lin Xiaoguai replied with a pleasant smile.
She had spontaneously made candied apples, not expecting that Little Niangao would be so tempted.
