My Favorite Game Followed Me! -
Chapter 486
Anton was not truly surprised when he learned that slavery existed in this kingdom. It brought down his opinion of Ormunda, but he guessed that slavery would be inevitable in a society ruled by magical might. There would always be lands or groups that would be conquered by the mighty, and those who were conquered would either be dead or enslaved.
He didn’t want slaves for maids or guards, though. He wanted to hire regular citizens of the kingdom, so he went to the government job agency that handled such things. One of the waiters told him where it was located. Anton did get lost for about an hour, but he didn’t mind since it allowed him to explore the surrounding places.
Once he found the job agency, the building that hosted the department was huge, which surprised Anton a little. When he entered, he learned that the building was shared by some other businesses, both public and private, just like buildings on Earth.
When he entered the space where the job agency was located, there were a huge number of people queuing, but the counters were clearly labeled, so he knew that those who had long lines were the hopefuls who wanted to find jobs.
Anton joined a queue at a counter that was labeled “Prospective Employee”. Thankfully, its line was short, and after a couple of minutes, he was stating his needs to the agent.
The agent was a halfling man named Cade. While he was in line, he inspected the halfling. He hadn’t met too many of them. The only thing that he could say was that the halflings were exactly how the DnD franchise from Earth portrayed them. They looked just like normal folks but made little. Their body proportions to each other were what you expect a normal human would have, but scaled down. Anton guessed that the halfling would be able to move extremely quickly, so the classes thieves and rogues were most suited for them.
When it was Anton’s turn, the halfling asked what he needed, and he stated that he needed a couple of maids and a couple of guards for the house that he had just purchased. He then gave the address to the halfling. The halfling accessed the magical globe that worked as the computer for the government offices in the kingdom of Ormunda, and Anton knew that Cade was able to access the information the government had on him.
“Based on the information that I found, you stated that you will be away from your house most of the time, delving into dungeons. Why do you require maids and guards?” The halfling asked.
At first, Anton felt like going into Karen mode, and saying that it was none of his business, but then again, he was new in the kingdom and did not want to have a reputation for being a difficult citizen.
“During my dive, I acquired a lot of items. I didn’t want to sell them because first, the mana stones that I’m receiving from the dungeon gave me an enormous amount of coins already, and soon, I will be able to delve into the lower floors, and that means that my ability to earn mana stones and items are going to increase. I planned to leave the enchanted items from the dungeons in my house. That meant guards will be needed, and because I want to feed my guards, maids will be needed.”
The halfling named Cade just nodded and told Anton the rates that a typical guard and a typical maid should receive. He agreed, and then Cade asked if he was willing to conduct interviews right then, since a lot of prospective employees were already in the offices waiting for employers.
Anton said that he was willing, so Cade asked someone to lead him to a room where he could begin conducting interviews. He didn’t wait for too long. After a few minutes, two dwarves entered the room.
“Good Morning, sir. My name is Torban, and this is my brother Torbin. We heard that you’re looking for a couple of guards. We wanted to try our luck because it would be better if we got employed together, since I have to look after my brother. He’s slow in the head, you know,” One of the dwarves said, and it startled Anton.
When he looked at the other dwarf, though, Anton saw that Torbin was rolling his eyes at his brother, and that made him laugh. He then asked the two simple questions, like how combat-ready they were. Anton was satisfied with their answers, and based on one experience, all the dwarves that he had met were solid folks.
“I will be hiring for a probationary period, and once I’m satisfied, we can talk about me employing you long term,” Anton told the dwarf and told them what their probationary pay would be, which was based on the recommended pay that the job agency suggested to employees.
Anton was surprised when Torbin began haggling about their pay, and he finally told them that he would increase their pay by twenty percent more once they were hired long-term. That made the dwarves agree.
He asked Torbin to tell the agency that the spots for guards had been filled. When the dwarf returned, they joined Anton at the table since the next interviews would be for a couple of maids.
The maids took longer since Anton allowed Torbin to conduct the interview. The dwarf wanted to have someone who could cook his favorite meal, and he was nitpicking the details. Since he did plan to hire the maids so they could cook for the guards and clean the house, he felt that it was right for the dwarves to hire whom they wanted to hire. They finally settled on a couple of human girls. Anton did notice that the girls were extremely beautiful. They were red-headed, voluptuous women, and he guessed that the majority of the reason why the dwarves selected them was because of their looks. He would have to warn Torbin and Torban about bothering the maids, but to be honest, he didn’t care as long as they received the maids’ consent.
Just like the dwarves, the maids named Lisa and Ronia would undergo a probationary period and would only be permanently hired if he was satisfied with their service. Their pay was still the standard that the job agency recommended, and everyone seemed happy about it.
Anton was glad that he was done with hiring the guards and the maids within a couple of hours. He didn’t want to linger in the job agency, so after paying for the charges that the agency billed him, they left for home immediately. He hired a carriage to drive them to the house, and within an hour, they arrived at Anton’s new home.
He showed everyone the whole house, then asked the maids what was supposed to be the monthly food budget for the five of them. He did mention that the food should be suitable for rich people and should be very generous. After a few minutes of thinking, the maids tentatively gave a budget, and Anton doubled it and gave the coins immediately to Ronia. He told the girls that they could purchase the things they thought they might need in the house, and to just list all the expenses in a notebook or something.
The dwarves’ eyes glittered when they saw how much food budget that Anton gave the maids because that meant that their daily food would be plentiful.
Anton then led the dwarves to the room that he selected as the treasure room and showed them the weapons that he had gotten from the twentieth floor of the Dungeon of Balathar.
