Chapter 295

One of the undead dragons that were targeted by most of the mages began to fall. The dragon looked damaged beyond repair but to Anton’s consternation a spell that looked like a gray ray flew out from the lead undead ship then hit the undead dragon that was falling and it began to revive at a rapid pace.

Soon the dragon looked like it was fully healed and flew again to attack the Amelia. Not only that, two Liches flew out from the lead undead ship. The Liches were surrounded by a powerful dark aura.

He realized then this battle would be very long and possibly continue as a battle of attrition.

Anton knew that the two Liches were as powerful or probably more than the supreme wizards. Supreme Setoro disengaged from the ritual that was maintaining the defensive spell on the Amelia and joined Numinor. The only one remaining to do the ritual was the supreme wizard named Medoron. 

He suddenly received a telepathic message from Numinor.

“Sir Sunder, we need assistance. Can you cast your energy and health regeneration spell on the three of us and please maintain it? You don’t have to attack anymore if you can’t maintain both.”

Anton flew down near the supreme Medoron and when the two supreme wizards saw him, they flew nearer to him since they were aware that his health and energy regeneration spell had a shorter range compared to other spells. He removed three random archmages from his party system and Anton added the three supreme wizards again.

A fearsome spell battle then appeared between the two supreme wizards and the two liches while all the other archmages were attacking the two dragons and the three ghost ships. Anton was glad that the defensive spell that the supreme Medoron was maintaining was still powerful enough to defend the ship from the undead dragons’ breath attack the spells that were coming out from the three ships and the stray spells that came out from the two Liches.

Anton did not stop casting his combination of Frozen Orb and Lightning spells toward one of the undead dragons and Meteor toward the three ghost ships but he stopped attacking the ships when he noticed that his spell was unable to reach them due to the fact that he was not on the platform anymore and was not covered by the magic runes that double the casting range of spells.

The second fight was more than an hour already and Anton only calmed down when he saw that the supreme wizards, even the archmages, were not afraid. He then remembered that there were still more powerful wizards in the Amelia and a lot more wizards in the ship. He also knew that if more powerful Liches appeared, the Invincible wizards would appear.

After a couple of hours of non-stop spell casting, one of the undead dragons fell and no more reviving gray rays appeared from the ghost ships to revive it because of that all archmages focused their spell power on the second undead dragon and soon it fell as well then the rest focused on the three undead ships.

When the second undead dragon fell, he received a telepathic message from the supreme wizard Numinor.

“Don’t attack the liches. We don’t want them to notice you.”

Anton obeyed and since he couldn’t reach the three ghost ships he stopped casting spells and just floated there as a mobile charging station and watched the fight between the powerful mages and the liches.

The fight was awe-inspiring. The spells between the high-level combatants were the stuff of legends and they made Anton’s blood boil. He noticed something though about the two supreme wizards who were fighting the two liches. They were swapping with each other. Numinor would focus on casting spells for a minute then he would switch with Setoro. Numinor would then begin meditating and Anton knew that he was probably memorizing spells somehow.

They did tell Anton that because of his aura, the rate of time on which they could memorize spells was hugely reduced and soon the two liches noticed it. They also noticed that if an attack spell penetrated the wizards' defenses, any injury that the mages received would heal immediately.

Because of that, the two Liches suddenly retreated and returned to the ghost ships. The Amelia then began pulling away from the ghost ships and soon the enemy ships were out of sight. All the wizards cheered. Most of the wizards in the platforms flew down to rest except for those who were assigned as lookouts.

The two supreme wizards also flew down and joined Medoron who stopped the ritual that maintained the defensive spell. Everyone had big smiles on their faces since they knew that a third attack from the undead was unlikely but the wizards remained vigilant.

“We still need to stay here, at least for a couple more hours. Also, food will arrive soon,” Numinor said, and that cheered Anton since he was truly famish that he was tempted to retrieve food from his inventory but eating something without sharing felt rude to him and he didn’t want to share the food that he stored in his inventory to the mages.

He already provided so much benefit to the ship by doing his best to protect it and he remembered that the captain overcharged them for a suite for so much.

Soon, a lot of people arrived bringing food and drinks to the wizards and a feast started. Anton was a bit glad that this battle happened. There were no casualties on either side since according to Setoro, even the fallen dragons would be retrieved by the undead and revived but Anton gained a massive inspiration.

“Sir Sunder, your spell that regenerate health and energy was truly powerful and it was the reason why the liches retreated. They noticed that Setoro and I could maintain casting spells with just a minute of rest and all the injuries that we received were immediately healed. That meant that if the battle continued, there was a chance that we would have won,” Supreme Numinor said.

“That’s unlikely but I’m with Numinor. Your spell is truly helpful in a battle of attrition,” Setoro added.

“I’m glad that I was able to help,” Anton was tempted to add that even though he mentioned that he was an archmage and was willing to help in the defense of the ship, his family was still charged several times the normal price of the ship.

He didn’t want to trouble the captain so much since he and his family would still need to spend a year in the ocean. Besides, Antonia already mentioned that she would do something about the overcharged and he knew that the rich young lady would be more diplomatic about the situation.

After they ate, everyone remained on the deck to ensure that they could defend the ship in case the three ghost ships appeared again, even though Numinor said that was unlikely.

“At least the next defense would be handled by a different group of wizards,” the supreme Medoron commented.

Anton then learned that four groups of archmages and Supremes were on standby that defend the Amelia in case of attack. Basically, the groups consisted of high wizards, archmages, and Supremes. The Invincible wizards would only appear in case the situation was truly dire.

The process was, depending on the type of attack, high wizards would appear first and then archmages and finally Supremes. Then the group would rotate even if the attack was miniscule or severe.
