Chapter 419: Chapter 413: Do You Want to Take Off Your Clothes?
In the dimly lit room, the television set emitted lively laughter.
Chen Jiayan leaned lazily on the sofa, a blanket draped carelessly over his legs, its edge slipping off the sofa and dangling onto the floor.
The light from the TV flickered across his handsome face.
The lighting sculpted his silhouette into a beautiful shadow, but emphasized his solitary presence even more.
And he had long been accustomed to this kind of life.
To him, this day was no different, just as ordinary as any other.
He enjoyed this lifestyle.
When one spends enough time in a certain environment, they gradually grow fond of it, and nobody could break him out of this comfort zone.
So when his phone suddenly rang, it felt incredibly jarring.
Chen Jiayan slightly furrowed his brow and extended his arm to retrieve the phone from the coffee table, his gaze naturally falling to the screen.
Xie Baola.
A flicker of contemplation passed through his eyes as his fingertips absently tapped on the coffee table.
His refined features seemed to be pondering.
Last night, Xie Baola had dropped by his place for dinner and left afterward, so what did she mean by calling him so late now?
The call was disconnected, and just as Chen Jiayan was about to casually put his phone back, it rang again.
This time he answered the call.
"Are you asleep?"
Xie Baola’s voice came through, mixed with the sound of the wind.
She must be outside.
Chen Jiayan hesitated, "Do you need something?"
"I’m downstairs at your building."
Chen Jiayan walked to the window and looked down.
At this hour, there were very few cars on the road, every so often a car would pass by.
Under the street lights and through the snowflakes, Chen Jiayan saw a red Ferrari, its headlights flashing.
A figure leaned against the car, looking up at the building.
Xie Baola actually couldn’t see anything.
Chen Jiayan could only make out her figure, unable to discern her expression.
During his silent moment, Xie Baola’s girlish voice came through the handset, sounding very patient, "It’s really late, and the security won’t let me up. Why don’t you come down? I’m waiting for you downstairs."
"Is there something you need?" Chen Jiayan asked again.
"Of course there is; otherwise, why would I be here?" Xie Baola suddenly sounded irritated. "Are you coming down or not?"
She was possibly a bit cold, as Xie Baola hopped on the spot a few times.
Chen Jiayan saw her shadow flutter on the ground.
"Can’t we talk over the phone?"
"No, it has to be face-to-face."
Xie Baola replied irritably, "What are you hesitating for? Are you afraid I’ll eat you up?"
Chen Jiayan: "......Actually, a bit."
Miss Xie was fearless in every aspect.
Especially when it came to men she liked; she was not shy about making bold moves.
Could he not be afraid?
Xie Baola was taken aback by his retort and took a deep breath before saying, "I’m not that desperate!"
What did Chen Jiayan take her for?
If she really wanted to force him, would she have played along for so long?
That was undervaluing her.
Xie Baola urged him, "Come down quickly, it’s really cold. We have a tradition of staying up late in my family, and I only managed to sneak out after my dad fell asleep. If you don’t come down, I’ll find a way to go up."
She, Xie Baola, could certainly find a way to go upstairs if she wanted to.
But she still hoped for a peaceful solution.
If that failed, then she’d force the issue.
Chen Jiayan really felt helpless with her: "Wait a moment."
He paused slightly: "Get in the car and wait for me."
A glint of joy flashed in Xie Baola’s eyes, had he seen her?
Just as she was about to say something more, Chen Jiayan had already hung up the phone.
Listening to the continuous beeping, Xie Baola pouted.
What an unromantic man.
Xie Baola didn’t go back to sit in the car but stood beside it, both hands so cold they were buried in her pockets.
Soon after, a tall figure appeared in her sight. Xie Baola curled her red lips, the smile at the corner of her mouth exceptionally dazzling.
"It seems you do care about me."
Once Chen Jiayan got close, Xie Baola said with a smile that was not without smugness.
Chen Jiayan’s tone was mild: "If you got sick, I’d have a hard time explaining it to Xixi."
Xie Baola frowned: "Whether or not I can catch you is my concern, and our matter has nothing to do with Xixi. Don’t drag her into this."
Couldn’t he admit that he had thoughts about her?
Chen Jiayan steered the conversation back: "What did you want to see me for?"
Xie Baola tilted her head, her foxy eyes casting a flirtatious and bright smile: "To wish you Happy New Year."
Chen Jiayan nodded: "Hmm, Happy New Year."
"Wait a moment, I have something to show you."
Xie Baola walked to the trunk, took out fireworks and placed them on the ground.
Chen Jiayan immediately guessed what she intended to do and reminded her: "......It’s forbidden to set off fireworks here."
"It’s fine; how can we miss fireworks on New Year’s?"
Xie Baola crouched down and lighted the lighter, about to ignite the fuse, when her wrist was suddenly grabbed.
The warmth of his palm permeated through her clothes to her hand.
When Xie Baola looked up at him, Chen Jiayan had pulled her up.
His expression was opaque: "You don’t want to spend New Year’s caught by the police, do you?"
"I don’t mind," Xie Baola shrugged. "Then let’s just be a pair of star-crossed lovers."
Chen Jiayan: "......"
"Stop fooling around," he said.
"But I’m not fooling around; I just wanted to set off fireworks for you."
She was serious.
If not allowed to set off these fireworks, she probably wouldn’t leave easily.
Chen Jiayan pondered for a few seconds, then asked, "What time do you need to be back?"
"What?"
"If you aren’t in a hurry to go back, let’s find a place where we can set off the fireworks."
"I’m not in a hurry!"
Xie Baola immediately responded.
She clutched the front of Chen Jiayan’s shirt, her gaze moving from his chest to his face, her smile somewhat suggestive: "I don’t have to go back at all."
Her eyes were enticing, like a siren’s call.
Chen Jiayan took her hand away, his demeanor unfazed: "Your dad will worry if you don’t go back."
Xie Baola suddenly felt a bit dejected.
This man was truly hard to flirt with.
"So, you’re not worried if you just leave me here?"
Chen Jiayan’s expression revealed a hint of helplessness, "I didn’t say I’d leave you behind; can I have the car keys?"
"Sure, why not." Xie Baola slapped the car keys into his hand.
Chen Jiayan picked up the fireworks and put them back in the trunk, then turned his gaze to her face: "Get in the car."
Xie Baola got into the car and settled in.
The car’s heater was on full blast; she immediately took off her coat and threw it onto the back seat.
Her actions were casual.
Then she turned to look at Chen Jiayan, her eyes clear and sincere, "Chen Jiayan, do you want to take your clothes off?"
Her tone was utterly serious.
If the circumstances were different, Chen Jiayan would almost suspect she had an ulterior motive.
But Xie Baola wasn’t really thinking much.
She was just worried he might be hot.
Chen Jiayan: "......I’m not hot."
He noticed that Xie Baola was only wearing a short dress underneath, the red fabric making her already fair skin look even whiter.
Wasn’t she really cold?
