Chapter 99: Let’s Secretly Date

Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Let’s Secretly Date

On the way back to the tent, Lin Lishan asked her, "Do you have someone you like?"

"Uh-huh."

"Who is it? Someone from our school?"

Fu Ying didn’t know how to answer, so she evasively said, "Yes, someone from our school."

"Who is it? Do I know him?"

"You don’t."

Before going to sleep, no matter how Lin Lishan probed, Fu Ying always avoided that critical question.

In the end, she simply feigned sleep.

The weather was not looking good the next day, and Wen Tian mentioned there might be rain.

So, with some reluctance, everyone prepared to head back.

It began to rain as they descended the mountain. What started as a drizzle quickly turned into a downpour.

The cold raindrops stung as they hit, blurring vision.

Fu Ying was stepping forward to keep up when suddenly she slipped and tumbled down the slope, prompting her companions to turn back upon hearing the noise.

That day, coincidentally, at 8 in the morning, a man rushed to the firefighters’ station pleading for help, claiming that three children, who had gone up the mountain to play and did not return all night, were missing.

The man and his family had been searching all night to no avail before turning to the firefighters for assistance.

Shen Liguang was supposed to return to Jiazhou City that day, but hearing the man’s cry for help, he joined the team heading into the forest.

It was not easy to find those three children, and with the rain coming, they encountered Lin Lishan’s group on the return trip.

The three boys were relatively calm and decided to go down to seek help.

Lin Lishan, being the only girl, saw Fu Ying rolling down the slope and became so frantic that she cried.

In this wild and desolate area, the heavy rain pouring down, these children should not have been there.

They only found out upon inquiry that they were high school graduates who came here to hike and that one of their companions had accidentally slipped and rolled down the slope.

Shen Liguang recognized one of them—a boy who’d been pulled out during a fire incident told him that his classmate was inside.

Shen Liguang quickly handed the little boy in his arms to another firefighter: "Take these children with you, I’ll go find that one."

Without waiting for the young firefighter to respond, Shen Liguang headed straight down the slope.

Fu Ying hit a rock as she fell, a painful sensation spread throughout her body, so intense that she could barely get up.

In the rain, her body was like a fragile leaf, trembling, when suddenly someone approached and scooped her up.

Fu Ying looked up at the person holding her, her body stiffened, her mind went blank.

This was the man she had longed for over more than a year, whom she dreamt about at night when she wasn’t thinking of him by day—now standing right in front of her.

He hadn’t changed much, still lean and tall, with the same serious and earnest demeanor while working, his gaze deep and intense.

Fu Ying opened her mouth to speak, but he swiftly picked her up.

For reasons unknown, despite the pain from the fall not eliciting tears, now lying on his back made her nose tingle and her eyes water, and she cried.

The tears mixed with the rain as she lay trembling on the man’s back, eventually dozing off into a deep sleep.

She would never forget the night she woke up.

She thought seeing Shen Liguang had been just a dream, that upon waking, everything would vanish.

But as she slowly opened her eyes and saw him so close, sitting by her bedside with a book in his hands.

The moonlight streamed in from outside, making him look so unreal.

Fu Ying slowly sat up in bed, her gaze fixed intently on the man, fearing he would turn into an illusion the moment she blinked.

"Brother? Big brother?"

Hearing the girl’s hoarse voice, Shen Liguang put down the book and looked at her.

Suddenly, their eyes met, and Fu Ying’s gaze darted about in panic.

The corners of the man’s lips lifted slightly, and he tenderly ruffled her hair, "Yeah, it’s been a long time. You’ve grown up."

The girl looked vastly different, having transformed from a little girl to a young woman, her baby fat completely gone, her face a clean, oval-shaped canvas with brown light shimmering in her eyes, her nose delicate, and her lips a rosy red.

Shen Liguang withdrew his hand.

Fu Ying felt a little dazed, noticing the small leather band on his wrist—the one she had given him a year and a half ago.

Because of this hair tie, Fu Ying’s long-suppressed urges became uncontrollable after their reunion.

It was the love she had hidden at the bottom of her heart for many years, the shards of glass she held in her palm, the suppressed urges and torment...

Fu Ying took a deep breath, not wanting to miss out or have regrets, she made a big decision: "Brother, I, I’ve got something to tell you."

Shen Liguang: "Mhm, go ahead, I’m listening."

"I, I, I..." Overcome with emotion and nervousness, Fu Ying stuttered, unable to speak clearly.

She suddenly felt her tongue go numb, and her legs too.

Shen Liguang couldn’t help but laugh: "Take your time."

"I..." Fu Ying couldn’t help but tear up again, looking into his eyes with an especially intense gaze, she lowered her head and said in a soft voice, "I, I like Brother."

Shen Liguang was taken aback.

He had heard this sentence many times on the night before he left, but this time, he was still slightly dazed.

He could distinctly feel the leaps of joy in his heart because the girl he had waited so long for was finally his.

He kept silent.

The girl didn’t dare look up. Out of nervousness, her fingers clutched the blanket tightly, turning white: "I, I’ve liked Brother for a long time, since my first year of high school, but back then I was afraid you’d say I was just a little kid, so I didn’t dare say anything. Now I’m eighteen years old, I’m an adult, I can date."

"I, I won’t force Brother, if Brother doesn’t like me... I, I won’t cling."

For a long time, she didn’t hear the man respond.

Fu Ying started to panic, preparing to lift her head to look at him.

Then the man, bracing his hands on the bed, leaned in closer, an overwhelming presence, his lips gently pressing on hers.

His breath was hot, as if he held back an urge.

Gently, he tenderly nibbled her red lips.

Fu Ying’s body suddenly stiffened, her tea-colored eyes blinking, her brain short-circuiting, still not comprehending what had happened.

By the time she became aware, the man had already pulled back.

Fu Ying stared at him, dumbstruck, finding it unbelievable.

Shen Liguang looked at her incredulous expression, feeling both amused and heartaches.

The little girl had secretly loved him for too long, with so little confidence, that even now, she felt like she was still dreaming that kiss.

Shen Liguang smiled, lifting his lips, and leaned in to peck her lips once more.

"What are you dazed for?"

"I..." Fu Ying swallowed hard, her words jumbled, "feel like, maybe, I’m dreaming."

"It’s real."

"I, I believe it now." Fu Ying lowered her head, biting her lip, wanting to throw herself into his arms, but she restrained herself.

"So how many letters was that little fool planning to write to me?"

"You, you knew?"

"What do you think?"

Fu Ying’s cheeks flushed crimson, her ears burning hot: "When, when did you find out?"

"Long ago, now answer my previous question."

Fu Ying bowed her head, embarrassed: "I planned to write until I was eighteen, to confess after 99 letters, but I confessed earlier, the 99th letter isn’t written yet..."

"No need to write it anymore."

Fu Ying still felt as if everything were a dream, looking up at him: "Brother, you, you agree to be my boyfriend?"

"Mhm."

"Can we date in secret?"

Shen Liguang laughed: "Why date in secret?"

Fu Ying quickly explained: "No, not because you can’t be seen in public, it’s because my dad and my older brother don’t know yet, I haven’t figured out how to tell them, so let’s keep it secret for now, then find the opportunity to say it."

"Mhm, then let’s keep it a secret."

Fu Ying, hearing the amusement in his voice, asked him: "Brother, what are you laughing at?"

Shen Liguang: "The girl I’ve been waiting for is mine."
