Chapter 140 Want Your Shoulder Strap
Chapter 140: Chapter 140 Want Your Shoulder Strap
"I’ll raise the child and take responsibility for you."
Fu Ying: "But, I can’t marry you yet."
"I can’t wait anymore," Shen Liguang looked at the white moonlight outside, his voice low.
"Ah?"
"I can’t wait until you turn twenty."
Fu Ying slightly curled her lips: "It will be soon, I’m already nineteen."
"I’m getting old, I can’t wait any longer."
Fu Ying frowned: "Brother, you’re not old at all."
Unable to resist a laugh, Shen Liguang playfully asked, "Isn’t brother quite impressive?"
Fu Ying blushed.
Over the phone, the person continued to ask, "How was brother’s performance that night?"
Fu Ying bit her lip, feeling ashamed.
How could he ask such an embarrassing question so casually, and still persistently waited for her answer.
"Why aren’t you speaking?"
Fu Ying took a deep breath, never expecting him to be so frivolous.
"Brother, be serious, I have something to tell you."
"Okay, tell me, I’m listening."
"I’m going to stay with grandma in the countryside for a while."
Shen Liguang frowned: "How long will you be gone?"
"Maybe half a month."
Suddenly silence on the phone, Fu Ying felt a heavy feeling in her heart.
"Brother?"
The white moonlight shone through the glass window, Shen Liguang unintentionally found a love letter tucked into the girl’s book, he deeply inhaled from his cigarette and responded in a muffled voice: "Wait for you to come back."
"Mhm."
"Remember to miss me."
"Mhm."
"Don’t get swayed by others."
"..." Fu Ying found it amusing, "I won’t."
"Don’t get too close to other men."
"I know." After a long phone call, Fu Ying yawned and began to feel sleepy, her voice soft and weak, "Brother, I’m sleepy."
Staring at the love letter, Shen Liguang’s voice was especially deep: "Then sleep."
"Mhm." Fu Ying didn’t catch on, responded, and directly hung up the call.
Shen Liguang frowned, staring at his phone for a while, thinking about the past when she would always say "Brother, good night" before hanging up. Now, she didn’t even say goodnight, just directly ended the call.
Is she not caring about him anymore?
Shen Liguang then checked Fu Ying’s WeChat; the chat still stopped at the last message he sent yesterday and she hadn’t replied. He looked at the love letter again.
Why does the name Shi Xiaofeng sound so familiar? The love letter written is so cheesy, and the last line, asking if she wants to be his girlfriend, is he disregarding him?
Suddenly, Shen Liguang realized they seemed to belong to two different worlds, with no mutual friends, no shared hobbies; their time together was either doing their own things or watching a movie.
Suddenly, Shen Liguang felt restless, took a deep breath of smoke, and really wanted to go find her now.
Looking up, he saw the car keys, picked them up, and was ready to go out.
Li Ruolan frowned, "Where are you going at 10 PM? You finally have a day off, just rest."
"I need to go out for a bit, I’ll be back later."
Li Ruolan advised, "Drive safely at night."
"Got it."
Shen Liguang responded, his figure disappearing from the hallway.
Using the starlight, the streets were sparse with people; it took less than ten minutes to reach Fu Ying’s building.
Fu Ying had finished packing things, and at this moment, was deeply asleep, then, her phone’s ringtone woke her up.
Her eyes half-closed, still drowsy she answered with a "Hmm."
Her tone sleepy, she murmured softly, dangerously seductive.
Shen Liguang’s Adam’s apple moved: "Come down."
"Ah?" Fu Ying hadn’t fully escaped from her drowsiness, her brain lagging, "What, brother?"
Shen Liguang: "I’m downstairs."
"..."
Fu Ying furrowed her brow, yawning as she climbed off the bed, walking to the window to look down, seeing his car in the deep night below.
Shen Liguang looked up to the window, the girl in her pajamas, rubbing her eyes, holding her phone looking down.
"Get out."
"Wait a moment."
Fu Ying tiptoed out of the door in her slippers, yawning as she got into the car, tears streaming down her face.
"I have to catch an early bus tomorrow."
The little girl’s tone was complaining, her voice raspy from lack of sleep, sounding even more like coquettish whimpering.
"What time in the morning?"
"Seven o’clock."
He held the steering wheel, his tongue pressing against his teeth. He hooked the corner of his mouth: "Let’s try to end this in half an hour."
Fu Ying hadn’t realized what he said when the car had already driven to a deserted and quiet place; there wasn’t even a streetlight by the road, complete darkness.
The man stopped the car and even turned off the headlights.
Silence prevailed all around, only the indicator lights were on in the car.
Fu Ying rubbed her eyes and yawned again.
"Leaving tomorrow?" he asked.
Fu Ying nodded: "Yeah, didn’t I tell you over the phone?"
Shen Liguang looked out of the window, suddenly falling silent.
Fu Ying, extremely sleepy, found a comfortable position on the passenger seat and closed her eyes.
"Yingying."
"Hmm?"
"How are the male students at your school?"
Fu Ying thought about it: "Not great? I didn’t meet many people. There are no fixed classrooms and no fixed desk partners, so I didn’t meet many male students."
He pressed on: "Has anyone pursued you?"
"No." Fu Ying paused. "Everyone’s on vacation now, brother, why are you asking this?"
"It’s nothing, just casually asking. Just want to understand your life at school, it feels like I don’t really know you." Shen Liguang licked his lips and turned to look at her.
The little girl wasn’t seriously talking to him, her eyes were half-closed on the passenger seat, drowsily giving perfunctory answers.
"Yingying."
"..."
The girl didn’t react much, her breathing stable, she had fallen asleep.
Shen Liguang took a deep breath, suddenly leaned closer, and reclined the seat.
Feeling the pressure, Fu Ying suddenly woke up, her face filled with panic: "Brother?"
"The hair tie is gone." Shen Liguang, "I didn’t mean to lose it."
"I’ll give you another one."
"I don’t want a hair tie."
Fu Ying: "Then what do you want?"
"Shoulder strap."
"Huh?" Fu Ying was stunned for a moment before realising what he meant, her cheeks flushing.
"Will you do it yourself, or shall I?"
Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at him.
"Pouting won’t help."
It seemed in his eyes, her pathetic look was akin to pouting.
"I’ll do it myself." Fu Ying was nervous, her fingers trembling slightly.
Fu Ying held her clothes to cover her body, her cheeks burning as she handed over the taken-off shoulder strap.
"I want to go home now, brother."
"Stay with me for a while."
"..."
"Let’s chat."
"Chat about what?"
"You will always like brother, right?"
"Always like."
Shen Liguang: "Will you always care?"
Fu Ying: "Will always care."
Shen Liguang paused for a moment, his gaze deep, looking outside: "I don’t feel secure, you’re still young, you will meet too many people, encounter many things, and eventually, your mindset might change, and maybe I will become less important."
"..."
Shen Liguang turned his head, only to see the little girl had fallen asleep; she hadn’t heard any of his words.
