Chapter 32: Other Discoveries

Khan, seeing everyone’s fear, simply said,

"What I’m about to test is simple... attack me."

...

Only silence remained between them.

...Seriously, did they die standing up? Or are they in shock?

Khan spoke again, a bit louder,

"Attack me."

Now I understand better what Khan had said. Everyone began casting their spells.

He watched as several circles formed. Seeing similar structures in them, Khan reached a conclusion,

Hm... they have similar central structures... only a few parts on the sides are different... maybe the elements being used? I’ll need more testing...

As the spells were launched again, he noticed something else.

The magic circle closes and forms what the caster desires... Is this like my compiling process?

With the spells getting close enough, he activated the force field again, stopping them just like before.

Is this the limit of magic in this world? ...Maybe not. Could it be a matter of education level? Or do the real mages stay in academies like in those novels? I’ll have to find out if magic schools exist here, then...

His thoughts were interrupted by a woman screaming,

"MONSTER! STAY AWAY! GET BACK!"

He simply looked toward the green-haired woman shouting, wondering if she had lost it.

She backed away, but was getting closer to the fire.

Instead of touching the hot flames, she touched something cold and solid.

As she turned to see what it was—barely having time to realize—a slap hit her face hard, slightly crushing the left side and throwing her to the ground.

Now able to see who it was, through the numbing pain and tears, she saw it was the angel she had once tried to flee from.

Luxian looked at the woman with deep disgust and disdain,

"Filthy... I just cleansed impure blood in the flames, and I’m already tainted again."

Her armor vanished, turning back into a white and gold dress. Her helmet became a hood, which she pulled back as she walked toward Khan.

Standing beside him, Khan said,

"Looks like it’s done."

"Yeah. I left the stronger ones with some dragons to be taken to the island."

"Good..."

No longer paying her any mind, he looked ahead and said,

"Seems my tests have come to an end..."

He extended his hand forward, as if preparing something, when a woman—on her knees, crying—interrupted him.

"W-What are you going to do to us?"

Her voice was filled with fear, and everyone else showed the same expression.

Khan’s eyes vanished behind the cloth—not due to deep thought, but because they turned white, showing regret.

Khan remembered events from his past life. Not mistakes he made, but ones his brother did.

He was a fool... I don’t want to make the same mistake he did...

Recalling how his younger brother died brought back even more memories.

Frustrated and angry, his eyes turned red. Then blue again, as calm returned to him.

This doesn’t help the current situation...

Controlling his emotions again, he lowered his hand and said,

"I’ve completely lost interest... leave the one who asked alive, so she can tell her king that I’d like a talk with him. As for the rest..." he paused for a moment and finished cruelly, "do what you want, Luxian."

Bowing slightly, Luxian replied cheerfully,

"As you wish."

Khan turned and walked toward the fire. Shubniggurath followed, and both disappeared from sight.

Now standing tall, Luxian said proudly,

"I don’t want this to take longer than before, so... goodbye."

The wings on her head opened slightly, revealing glowing golden eyes. Protecting the one survivor, Luxian, clapped her hands.

Everything around was suddenly flattened to the ground. Trees were reduced to stumps, mounds of earth were leveled, surrounding flames vanished, and bodies were completely crushed.

This was her Space Fold ability in action.

With only one woman left standing in that flattened land surrounded by compressed meat, Luxian flew back to the island.

The blonde woman who remained couldn’t believe what had just happened.

Through tears, she thought,

They’re all gone... Mark, Norkim, and E...

She froze at the last name and muttered to herself,

"I have to get out of here..."

Using what little strength she had, she walked to the catacombs’ entrance... or what was left of it.

She passed through and was teleported back to the temple, running as best as she could until someone noticed her.

"Hey, isn’t that Silvia?"

"Hm?", he squinted and said, "Yeah, that’s her."

"Why’s she coming back? Did something happen?"

The guard shouted,

"HEY! WHAT HAPPENED!?"

She didn’t answer. She just kept running until she got close.

Out of breath, Silvia said,

"It’s bad..."

The guard looked confused at the other.

Silvia continued,

"That island is hell..."

The guards were even more confused.

Unable to keep going, Silvia collapsed.

"HEY! Silvia!?"

They picked her up and took her into the city to be treated.

---

In a blooming garden full of blue flowers, a young man with blue hair pushed a wheelchair carrying a little girl with darker blue hair.

As they walked through the garden, it was clear they got along well, chatting about their day.

Interrupting the moment, a knight burst through the garden doors and shouted,

"An emergency, Your Highness!"

The prince looked at the knight, irritated. The girl asked, scared,

"What happened, Yuri?"

Yuri looked down at the girl with a gentle smile,

"Nothing. Just work, calling your brother."

She seemed upset as she spoke,

"Already? It feels like we don’t get to play like we used to..."

He placed his hand on her head in comfort and said,

"I’ll handle this quickly, and we’ll spend the rest of the day together."

"You promise?"

"I do!"

She brightened up, and as he pulled his hand away, he said,

"I’ll be right back."

Leaving the garden with the knight beside him, he asked, now a bit angry,

"This has nothing to do with those old geezers, does it?"

The knight stuttered,

"N-No, it’s about the island."

Hearing that, Yuri paid closer attention and said,

"Go on."

"It seems the island struck back against the adventurers we sent..." the knight paused, then continued, "Only one returned from those who went on, Your Highness..."

Yuri took a moment to process the absurdity of what he had just heard and asked,

"How many went?"

"Around 600 were gathered. About 450 stayed after the first warning."

Yuri narrowed his eyes while walking and asked,

"First warning?"

The knight looked around nervously and said,

"Yes, Your Highness. An angel came with a warning before they left."

Yuri froze, trying to comprehend what he had just said, then spoke,

"You said... an angel?"

"Yes, Your Highness..."

A vein popped on his forehead. He stopped, overwhelmed by anger, and shouted,

"AND SOMETHING LIKE THAT DIDN’T REACH ME!?"

"M-My apologies, Your Highness."

The knight bowed his head in apology.

Yuri resumed walking quickly through the corridor, until he slammed a door open with great force.

Everyone inside—a group of nobles gathered around a table—looked at Yuri, who was furious.

A noble, barely fitting into his tight clothes, spoke first,

"Y-Your Highness—"

Yuri didn’t give him a chance.

"Shut up!" he said to the noble, his face filled with rage. "Now I want to know who kept this information from me."

The room went silent.

"...Very well. Once this is over, I will launch an investigation and execute whoever doubted my authority."

A heavy atmosphere filled the room as everyone seemed to cover for the guilty party... or were they all involved?

Continuing as he walked to his chair,

"I want to know everything that was hidden from me."

He sat down, and a discussion followed.

---

Now, with the afternoon sun, Yuri walked through the castle halls deep in thought.

What the hell did those old fools do? If you see an angel, you listen. It’s like they never read about them in school.

He sighed, overwhelmed by the weight of the situation.

Now we’re the ones who look like the aggressors... they tried to talk and were ignored...

With that in mind, his rage returned.

Those greedy bastards only think of themselves... I wish I could kill one right now...

Trying to calm himself, he thought,

At least no meeting date was set, so we agreed on tomorrow morning.

He sighed in front of his destination: a large bedroom door.

Calming down, he opened the door to reveal an elegant room with a spacious bed. Someone lay in it, while a woman sat in the corner reading.

As he entered, the woman stopped reading and looked at Yuri. He was the first to speak.

"Good afternoon, Mother."

"Good afternoon, son... here to see your father again?"

Yuri closed the door and replied,

"Yes... is he getting better?"

She only shook her head and said,

"Seems his age isn’t helping his recovery..."

Yuri had already heard this not only from her but also from the royal doctors.

He approached, looking at his father, and spoke,

"Good afternoon, Father. I hope you’re having good dreams... as I say every day, don’t worry—your son will take care of the kingdom while you go through this."

With that said, he looked at his mother, and the two talked for a while until Yuri left

Now in the hallway, he walked quickly to meet his sister again, thinking,

I hope someday things get better... that we can be like we used to be...
