48: Chapter 48 The Mission Officially Begins 48: Chapter 48 The Mission Officially Begins Watching Lu Zixun grow serious, Zeng Haoyang knew that the cat had understood.
Zeng Haoyang continued, “All you need to do is protect Long Ya.
If there are any problems that require force to solve, Xiong Kang will take care of them in the shadows.”
Upon hearing this, Lu Zixun turned his head to look at Xiong Kang, who nodded at him.
It seemed like everything was arranged with no issues.
But Lu Zixun still felt that something was off, burying his head in his paws to ponder for a moment before raising his head, “What if an Advanced Blood Worm comes?
How will we deal with that?”
“Advanced Blood Worms can’t come here.”
After saying this with a smile, Zeng Haoyang’s eyes held a coldness, “Unless they want to kill their Queen.”
So confident?
Lu Zixun looked at Zeng Haoyang in surprise and then nodded slightly.
If that was the case, then he was reassured.
Jumping off the sofa, Lu Zixun headed upstairs.
He had not taken two steps before Xiong Kang grabbed the scruff of his neck, lifting him into the air.
Lu Zixun, flailing in the air, turned to Xiong Kang, “What are you doing?”
“Where do you think you’re going?”
Xiong Kang asked with a smiling face.
“?”
A perplexed Lu Zixun replied, “Going to sleep, what else?”
“Going to sleep, huh.”
Xiong Kang, with a meaningful look in his eyes, repeated Lu Zixun’s words before saying lightly, “As far as I know, cats are very sneaky, and you’re a tomcat.
Where exactly do you plan on sleeping?”
“Fog Grass?”
Right after Xiong Kang finished speaking, Lu Zixun realized why he had been picked up; it was this issue.
Raising his paw, he slapped Xiong Kang’s arm hard.
Xiong Kang yelped in pain and let go, and Lu Zixun jumped to the ground, casting a disdainful look at Xiong Kang, “Such a dirty mind, who has such thoughts all day?”
Before Xiong Kang could get angry, Lu Zixun activated his Flash-like speed.
In the blink of an eye, he vanished from the living room.
The next second, the sound of a door closing came from upstairs…
As well as Lu Zixun’s smug voice, “Good night!”
Rubbing the red mark from Plum Drink on his arm, Xiong Kang turned to Zeng Haoyang.
“Let him go.”
Shaking his head with a smile, Zeng Haoyang said, “This cat is pretty impressive.
It seems I was right to recruit him into STO.”
After a moment of silence, Xiong Kang looked at Zeng Haoyang, puzzled, “Elder Zeng, I don’t understand.”
Zeng Haoyang knew Xiong Kang did not understand why he had recruited Lu Zixun into STO.
Zeng Haoyang smiled and calmly explained, “Dogs are man’s most loyal friends, and so are cats.
If it’s a wild pet that has gained Spiritual Wisdom without guidance, I wouldn’t have done it.”
“But…
Orange Cat is different.”
After saying this, Zeng Haoyang took a sip of water before continuing, “After Bai Yiyi and I mentioned it, I started paying attention to a cat.”
“It has the consciousness to protect humans, and in the face of threats from Abnormal Creatures, its first reaction is to protect Lin Qiang.
This instinctive action explains a lot.”
“I see.”
After hearing Zeng Haoyang’s explanation, Xiong Kang nodded thoughtfully and said nothing more.
“Alright, you can go now.
Don’t you have some things left to do?”
Zeng Haoyang said lightly, a murderous glint appearing in his eyes.
“Yeah.”
With a single response from Xiong Kang, he disappeared from the living room sofa in the blink of an eye.
After pondering in the living room for a while, Zeng Haoyang leaned back on the sofa.
Closing his eyes, he patted his hands, and the villa’s lights went out, plunging Zeng Haoyang into darkness.
Silence shrouded the villa.
…
The next day.
While sound asleep, Lu Zixun felt his nose tickle and swatted at it impatiently with a paw.
Laughter like silver bells rang in his ears.
Slowly opening his eyes, Lu Zixun saw Long Ya in her school uniform, holding a strand of hair in her hand.
“Meow?”
With a puzzled cry, Lu Zixun yawned widely.
“Ding—Love Value from Long Ya detected: +500.”
“You lazy kitty, you won’t wake up no matter how much I call you.”
Could this really be a matter of laziness?
What cat gets up early in the morning?
Muttering to himself, Lu Zixun, aware that Long Ya was going on a spring outing, got up from his warm bed.
He shook off his fur, hopped down from the bed, and circled Long Ya.
“I’m heading out now, Grandpa told me to wake you up to have a stroll in the park for some weight loss.
If you get hungry, there’s cat food and water downstairs.”
Long Ya, all smiles, crouched down and stroked Lu Zixun’s head.
After giving Lu Zixun her instructions, she got up, picked up her backpack from beside her, and turned to walk towards the door.
Lu Zixun’s expression tensed, and he leaped out of the open window onto a tree branch.
He swiftly descended the trunk and, arriving before Long Ya left the villa, boarded the car.
Upon entering the car, he met Zeng Haoyang’s speechless gaze.
Lu Zixun looked at him in surprise, glanced down at himself, and said, “What’s up, is my fur a bit messy today?”
“No.”
Shaking his head, Zeng Haoyang said helplessly, “It’s just my first time seeing a cat that needs to be called five times to wake up.”
Hearing this, Lu Zixun, with a face full of black lines, decided to ignore Zeng Haoyang and began to wash his face by licking his paw.
“Hide.”
As Lu Zixun licked his paw, his upright ears picked up Zeng Haoyang’s voice.
He looked up at the rearview mirror.
He saw Long Ya with her backpack, hopping along as she approached.
Lu Zixun immediately leaped onto the passenger seat and hid beneath it.
“Grandpa, let’s go.”
After boarding the car, Long Ya sweetly spoke to Zeng Haoyang.
The car slowly headed for First Primary School.
Lu Zixun also pondered how to protect Long Ya in secret when suddenly, he remembered he had the Invisibility Cloak.
Immediately, Lu Zixun felt confident.
Shielded by the Invisibility Cloak, he could stay close and ensure the protection of Long Ya.
Free from worrying about hiding his shape, Lu Zixun slowly laid down—waking up this early made him not fully alert yet.
“Sizzle.”
As Lu Zixun dozed off, he heard the car’s sudden braking and instantly woke up.
Poking his head out from under the seat, he looked at Zeng Haoyang, who was driving.
Zeng Haoyang gave him a half-smile and said softly, “The school has already started boarding the buses, aren’t you getting ready to go?”
“Huh?”
Uttering in surprise, Lu Zixun hurriedly crawled out from under the seat and hopped up, looking out the window.
He saw a bunch of primary school students lining up to board the coaches.
From the position Long Ya was standing, it seemed she was meant to board the third coach.
He extended his paw to tap the button for the power window and, as soon as the window opened, he leaped out, “Old man, I’m off!”
Lu Zixun, utilizing the bushes for cover, approached the third coach and, seeing no one around, activated Flash-like speed and dashed right on.
