Chapter 304: Chapter 303: The 2nd Task - Metal Insect Tide
Hard-won clues had broken off just like that, and suddenly, the room fell silent.
Among the members with faces full of worry, Lu Zixun, who was completely at ease, lay sprawled on the washbasin as if he were on vacation, swaying his tail.
Lu Zixun realized that Cheng Tianxiang was smart but inflexible.
Since there was nothing else in the room besides the washbasin, and if the hose could only be cut with a sharp instrument, then the sharp instrument must be hidden inside the soap.
The group continued to look frustrated.
Lu Zixun felt his intelligence was being dragged down three levels.
His swinging tail directly swept the soap onto the floor.
Lu Zixun pretended to be unconcerned and thought reminding them wouldn’t really count as intervening.
"Consider this a warning."
As Lu Zixun thought this, a voice that made him involuntarily roll his eyes reached his ears.
Wu Zhouyun, who had just picked up the soap to place it back on the washbasin, stiffened, then took the soap and tossed it to Cheng Tianxiang.
"There wouldn’t be any redundant items in this room, check if the sharp object is inside."
Nodding slightly, Cheng Tianxiang lifted his tactical flashlight high and suddenly smashed it onto the soap.
A razor blade dropped out from the soap, and Lu Zixun raised his eyebrows, wondering how STO people managed to insert a blade inside it.
"We’ve got it, we’ve got it."
Picking up the blade, Wu Zhouyun cut open the hose and took out the tools inside.
"Now, it’s time to form a human ladder."
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Cheng Tianxiang gasped for breath, "We need to be quick; this is a confined space."
"?"
Lu Zixun’s brow furrowed, forming a question mark.
There was clearly a ventilation duct on the ceiling, so how had this room become a confined space?
Lu Zixun, who was a bit puzzled at this stage, noticed upon closer inspection that a thin membrane blocked the airflow inside the ventilation duct.
Being able to use Spiritual Energy, Lu Zixun naturally didn’t feel any different.
But it was different for Cheng Tianxiang, the space was small, and there were dozens of people breathing.
At this moment, in order to conserve oxygen, those forming the human ladder tried to hold their breath as much as possible.
Soon, a stable human ladder was formed.
Wu Zhouyun, holding the tools, unscrewed the self-tapping screws and managed to remove the exterior blinds of the ventilation duct.
"Deputy Captain Lu, it’s your turn."
A breathless Wu Zhouyun, his forehead veins protruding, called to Lu Zixun.
Stepping onto the human ladder, Lu Zixun climbed into the ventilation duct, his claws, glinting coldly, sliced through the membrane, and oxygen flooded into the room, giving Cheng Tianxiang and the others a breath of relief.
Lu Zixun pondered that his action shouldn’t really count as intervening, no warning sound was triggered, and his whiskers trembling slightly, he continued to run forward.
In less than two minutes, Lu Zixun jumped out of the ventilation duct into a dark and long calcium channel, with doors on both sides flickering red and blue lights.
"Now the second task is issued, please listen carefully."
After all the squad members had been let out, the voice of that woman echoed in the corridor.
"You need to head to the storage room deep in the passage, retrieve the Genetic Optimization Liquid and return; a different passage will emerge, at which time the third task will be released."
After the notice, everyone exchanged glances, looking at each other puzzled.
In another room, Meng Yihao passed the acquired access card to Lu Zixun: "Deputy Captain Lu, this is something from our room; it should be useful to open the storage room door later."
Upon hearing this, Lu Zixun nodded and put away the door card.
The group conferred briefly and decided to form a team of five, protecting Lu Zixun in the middle as they moved towards the storage room.
Standing on Cheng Tianxiang’s shoulder, Lu Zixun looked at the traps set up deep in the corridor.
Lu Zixun shook his head, finding it somewhat childish and even questioning whether this method could indeed serve as a training exercise.
Small holes were set up along the corridor walls, likely hiding some kind of hidden weapons inside.
Seeing their sparse distribution, Lu Zixun’s mouth twitched. This few, were they just meant to scare people?
"Stop."
Walking ahead to scout, Wu Zhouyun suddenly halted and raised his right hand in a fist.
The team, previously advancing, stopped abruptly at his command.
Curious, they looked up and saw, under the light of the tactical flashlight, a barely visible transparent fishing line.
"Not infrared sensors, poor rating."
Muttering internally, Lu Zixun acted as if he hadn’t seen it and casually placed his paw on Cheng Tianxiang’s head.
"The next stretch of the road will likely have traps."
Carefully dismantling the fishing line, Wu Zhouyun said with a serious expression, "Everyone be extra cautious to avoid triggering any mechanisms."
"Pay attention to any irregularities on the ground and any abnormalities on the ceiling, and immediately notify the scout if anything is found."
Meng Yihao, who was responsible for guarding the rear, added this on top of Wu Zhouyun’s reminders.
The team continued on.
Lu Zixun looked at each trap, but none was triggered, which he found rather remarkable.
This team, their ability to spot traps was quite strong, perhaps because Zeng Haoyang knew them too well.
Confounded, Lu Zixun unknowingly reached the front of the storage room.
Indeed, there was a device to check the door card, flickering with blue light in the dark environment. He tossed the card to Cheng Tianxiang.
"Click."
The moment the metal door opened, the sound of shattering glass was heard, followed by rustling noises coming from the room.
The first to look towards the source of the noise, Lu Zixun spotted a pile of metal insects with red glowing eyes.
Their mass was comparable to an Insect Tide, looking quite the part.
Before Lu Zixun could get a clear view, Cheng Tianxiang hurriedly pulled him inside the storage room.
A sweating Wu Zhouyun, frantically pressing the close button, tried to shut the door before the metal insects could get in.
The door opened quickly but closed exceedingly slowly; it simply couldn’t shut in such a brief time.
The sound of the metal insects moving closer rang in their ears. Finding weapons, Cheng Tianxiang threw the firearms to Wu Zhouyun and Meng Yihao at the door: "Meet the enemy!"
The swarm of metal insects appeared outside the storage room’s metal door.
With only one meter left before the door could shut, it might as well have been nonexistent in the face of the Insect Tide.
"Listen to my command."
Intently watching the metal insects, when they were thirty meters away from the door.
Cheng Tianxiang waved his hand grandly: "First team, fire!"
"Bang!"
The muzzle flashed, bullets streamed out, engulfing the metal insects.
Lu Zixun, standing at the back and witnessing this scene, shook his head.
It was indeed a training exercise; these team members truly had no experience at all.
