Chapter 712: Chapter 440 Moistened_2
Jealousy is the original sin!
"Sigh," Meng Lang helplessly massaged his temples.
This was a typical case of neglecting the consequences.
But one couldn’t blame one’s brother; if one could manage to tend to their own small plot of land, watering and fertilizing, could they possibly care for the group "MAGA" party defecating and farting across the ocean?
In the end, it was his own negligence, underestimating the cruelty of competition between great nations...
The complexity of the situation was far beyond what the word "jealousy" could encapsulate.
Perhaps it was exactly because he had not fully exposed Zero’s true power from the beginning but wished to slice it like a sausage, wanting slowly to have a bunch of financial countries and resource countries revolve around a super industrial country, to complete the top-level design of a "united front against the Demon Race."
Without experiencing true desperation, there was still hope born from fluke...
So, they chose a desperate last stand, regardless of the cost!
Did they not realize the grave dangers of this act? Of course, they did.
But faced with a choice between a "potential world crisis" and a "definite loss of hegemony," they picked the option that gamblers were more inclined to choose.
Meng Lang was, to say the least, helpless.
Expose Zero and drive them to despair, they discard all inhibitions and play at "world nuclear leveling."
Don’t expose Zero, hoping to cut the flesh with a dull knife, for a smooth transition of power, right? They think they’ve still got a chance, get pumped up like they’re on steroids and creatively seek death with you, and in the end, pull you down with them...
Either way, no way out, how to deal with this?
Must I really be forced to flee?
If it really came to that, Mr. Meng probably wouldn’t accept any absurd explanation about "being in Cao’s camp but with Han in heart." He’d most likely break my legs.
But is a brutal baptism necessary for the transition of power?
Once becoming the hegemon, must one suffer from severe paranoia?
Meng Lang couldn’t help but think of a very famous and frightening "theory"—"Thucydides’ Trap"!
(Thucydides’ Trap: The term originates from the ancient Greek historian Thucydides’ conclusion about the Peloponnesian War, that Athens’s rise instilled fear in Sparta, rendering the war inevitable.
In modern terms, it implies that a rising power is destined to challenge the existing leading nation, which in turn is bound to respond with containment and suppression, making conflict or even war between the two almost unavoidable.)
He did not deny a certain "correctness" to the theory, but at the moment, he was more acutely aware of the "harmfulness" of the other side!
Its harm didn’t lie in the accuracy of its prediction, but rather that the moment this theory was proposed was exactly when "Thucydides’ Trap" was truly set in motion!
Once such a theory becomes widely accepted and enters the mainstream consciousness, it becomes an automatic trigger in people’s minds.
When reality reflects consciousness and situations evolve step by step towards the predictions... people naturally fall into this meticulously arranged "consciousness trap" and make erroneous judgments.
That is, the established nation must contain the rise of the emerging power through war.
And the emerging power must topple the established nation with war to ascend.
Murderous to both body and spirit!
Nobody realizes just how dangerous these thoughts really are!
If all of humanity had a collective consciousness, then this so-called trap would be a kind of "spiritual hypnosis" that could alter humanity’s overall "subconscious."
Regardless of whether Thucydides proposed this theory based on historical research or for other reasons.
It is undeniable that the wider this idea spreads, the greater the harm it poses to humanity, becoming a stark "civilization trap"!
Bear in mind, the only constant in the world is that it is always changing.
In 1450, Portugal embarked on the Age of Discovery, becoming the inaugural world hegemon.
In 1530, a succession crisis in the Portuguese throne saw Spain become the second world hegemon.
In 1640, the Dutch, as seafaring coachmen, dominated the world, becoming the third world hegemon.
By 1720, the decline of the Dutch East India Company paved the way for France to rise as the fourth world hegemon.
In 1815, Napoleon met his Waterloo, while the UK, through the Industrial Revolution, established the Sun Never Sets Empire, becoming the fifth world hegemon.
After World War I in 1920, the United States rose to global dominance, maintaining its position for 98 years.
Following the pattern of a new hegemon every century, the world was bound to see the emergence of another by around 2020.
What was once an inevitable historical trend, the widespread diffusion of the concept of the "Thucydides Trap" made the transfer of extreme power highly unstable and unpredictable.
The leader, glancing back inadvertently, saw the chaser. "What are you looking at?"
The chaser, merrily running, was taken aback by the question, "What’s it to you if I look?"
And so, the chase nonsensically escalated into war...
Once a war broke out, it undoubtedly proved the accuracy of the "Thucydides Trap" all over again, causing future rulers to embrace it as an axiom.
A world war every hundred years became the norm for this world...
After countless cycles, the "trap" eventually evolved into truth.
The coincidences of history inevitably became the certainties of the future!
And humans would gradually lose the harmonious virtues of Yao and Shun’s abdication philosophy, "people-oriented governance and merit-based appointment," as human nature became more selfish and narrow-minded.
The so-called "trap" that deliberately manufactures opposition and contradiction is precisely a sort of "mental PUA" against humanity.
Ironically, this trap was created by humans themselves and then enshrined within textbooks as civilization...
"Humanity’s greatest enemy... indeed, it’s humanity itself..."
Meng Lang sighed again.
After interacting with people for a while, he found that he preferred dealing with the Night Demon Clan. What kind of messed up feeling was that?
It seemed that mental illnesses weren’t solely his own; human civilization had them too!
He worried about falling apart himself, but civilization was already deep into schizophrenia, fiercely battling with itself...
He really wanted to get as far away as possible from this bunch of lunatics...
Coincidentally, another world’s brother also had the same idea.
Meng Lang flipped the page and looked toward the "future" that was to unfold...
[Looking at the battered Earth, plagued by regional conflicts every three days and a nuclear proliferation crisis every five, the world was in complete disarray.
After multiple attempts, I grew somewhat despairing of these Earth people...
Already critically ill and yet still marching to a senseless death on the battlefield?
As the saying goes, where there’s life, there’s hope.
So, I decided to uproot my family and immigrate to Mars...]
"Uh..."
He tugged at the corner of his mouth.
Well, he wasn’t just fleeing; he was fleeing far away...
