My autobiography is definitely not a tragedy!
Chapter 66 - 65: Where is Mr. Yamamoto?

Chapter 66: Chapter 65: Where is Mr. Yamamoto?

Yu Garden residential complex.

"Click!" Gao Yuan entered, placed her handbag on the shoe rack, and took off her shoes to step into the somewhat empty-looking luxurious decorated mansion.

This is one of the highest-end residential areas in Su City, adjacent to Jinji Lake. Although it’s not as expensive as many villa areas where prices soar to hundreds of millions, a 150 square meter flat here is priced at over 10 million.

It’s one of the few "pre-marital properties" left to her by her deceased parents.

Since she started living separately three years ago, this has become her sole reliance.

After Xu Jingsong cut off her financial source, the only remaining funds in her bank account dwindled to a mere hundred thousand, and even the divorce litigation—she signed a "litigation risk contingency fee agreement" with Zhongtian Law Firm, where she would pay after the lawsuit was fought.

Life was much tighter than before, but fortunately, she wasn’t the type of rich lady who was fond of splurging and living in luxury.

After a shower, Gao Yuan dried her hair and, wearing her bathrobe, went to the study.

Reading before bedtime had always been her habit.

This spacious study room, apart from a desk and a chair, had no other furniture, and the walls were entirely covered by bookshelves filled with densely packed books.

Some of these books were left by Mr. Gao, with others added by Gao Yuan herself, and the variety was quite diverse.

Gao Yuan walked past row upon row of bookshelves.

Apart from historical books, there were also many well-known works on corporate management and financial accounting.

Although her father was a history professor, she studied for a master’s degree in finance at Harvard and had once thought of helping Xu Jingsong manage the business.

Regrettably, even when restless at home, Xu Jingsong never allowed her to interfere with any matters of the Xu Group.

She passed by books that had accompanied her through the most solitary time in her life, finally pulling out a hardcover book with a yellow cover from the most conspicuous spot next to the desk.

On it was boldly written... "The Troubles of Emperor Wanli."

She reclined leisurely in her office chair, flipping through the book somewhat absentmindedly, as if her thoughts were elsewhere.

This was a book that took Emperor Wanli’s fifteenth year (1587), during the Ming Dynasty, as an observational entry point to explore the profound reasons behind the decline of the late Ming empire, through descriptions of key historical figures.

The book is divided into seven Chapters, separately detailing the supreme ruler Emperor Wanli, the scholar-official Shen Shixing, the Grand Secretary Zhang Juzheng, the model bureaucrat Hai Rui, the liberal intellectual Li Zhi, and the anti-Wokou (Japanese pirates) hero Qi Jiguang.

For a niche book like this, it was hard to imagine that a young man would, like her, enjoy this kind of slightly dry historical academic book.

She knew her worth and, of course, that there would be those who deliberately pandered to her interests.

But even Xu Jingsong didn’t know she liked this book, let alone others.

Coincidence?

Such an interesting person...

[My hawthorn tree love affair is only pure with you, I can discard, my bottom line...]

The ringtone of her phone beside her interrupted Gao Yuan’s thoughts.

She picked up her phone and glanced at it, frowning slightly.

"Hello?"

"Tomorrow? Is there something you need?"

"I think everything that needed to be said has been said. I don’t think there’s anything we can talk about."

"What? You want to settle out of court?" Gao Yuan paused in surprise.

After listening for a moment longer, Gao Yuan spoke slowly, "Alright, where?"

She hung up the phone.

"The Cloud Peak Restaurant, huh..."

[Yuanyuan, marry me...]

Her thoughts drifted slowly back to ten years ago, and Gao Yuan sighed softly.

Since it was where everything started, it should be where everything ends...

No longer in the mood to read, Gao Yuan got up, intending to go back to her bedroom to rest, when suddenly she stopped as something came to mind.

She left the study and took a black box out of her handbag.

Opening the box, she pulled out a curious object that was thick on top, thin at the bottom, much like a flashlight.

After fumbling for a while, Gao Yuan couldn’t figure out what it was, and instinctively pressed the only button on it.

"Zzz~"

Gao Yuan: "..."

...

The next morning, after sending Xiao Yu off for her morning training, Meng Lang directly boarded the bus.

Today was the day of the company’s regular meeting.

To be honest, just thinking about Wang Zhiping’s spittle-flecked, condescending tones and gestures made Meng Lang not want to go at all.

Though he had snagged an insurance policy from the bald manager, just about meeting his sales targets for the month.

But he knew such meager achievements wouldn’t dampen Wang Zhiping’s enthusiasm for berating someone.

So, Meng Lang had already decided that if Wang Zhiping dared to pick a quarrel at the meeting, he would blow up in front of everyone!

With your repetitive parroting, do you think you can compare to a debate ace from the Chinese literature department?

If I don’t leave you bursting with floral fury, wave after wave higher than the last, spurting blood in torrents, my name isn’t Meng Xiaolang!

He had long since decided to resign.

Why had he even persisted with the job, putting up with such aggravation day after day?

Come, chant with me, Qi Ruyi!

Now it was different; the interest from his savings was higher than his current salary. This was the confidence he had to rage!

Money is a wonderful thing, because even if one day you curse your boss to a bloody mess, you can still live comfortably, wistful for the past...

And then hide under your covers, snickering.

The vast majority of people in this world are so persistent in their efforts just to give those who once humiliated us a taste of their own medicine, isn’t it?

He had V2.0 of his resignation letter prepared to slap onto his face; his affectionate regards to Comrade Wang Zhiping had elevated in depth and breadth—ensuring that upon reading it, he’d vomit another torrent!
