Chapter 657: Chapter 413 I’m Not Quite Suited for Learning Buddhism_3
Even if he had thoroughly studied this Scripture, it would probably be similar to Nie Feng chanting "If the heart is clear as ice, the falling sky will not startle" when he became possessed.
The effect is there but not much...
"Hehe! If the young friend is willing, he could look beyond the perspective of any single school. Why not try the ’Preserving the One’ philosophy of Taoism?"
"Taoism?"
"Correct, Buddhism and Taoism have the same origin.
Buddhism seeks liberation in tranquility, acting without attachment, and stands apart from the world.
While Taoism truly preserves the one, but this ’one’ refers to the heart, not the object—it is the unity of the heart. If the heart is eternal and constant, one achieves everlasting life.
Taoism harmonizes with heaven and earth, follows Nature, and encompasses all under Yin and Yang; therefore, Laozi said that among the four great domains within, the Tao is the greatest.
Not just in Buddhism, the myriad lives and laws cannot escape from the single word ’Tao’.
I see in the young friend a temperament that may, quite possibly, correspond more with the teachings of Taoism."
Taoism?
Meng Lang fell into deep thought.
In fact, after Buddhism was introduced to Central Earth, it had integrated with local sects, and had long since evolved from its original source.
The ’Zen’ introduced by Dharma had integrated a great deal of traditional Confucian and Taoist philosophy.
In the past few days, as Meng Lang studied the Huayan Sutra, he indeed had this faint impression...
The self-help path of his "senior" was to study Buddhism, yet the "senior" before the "senior" had always been a follower of Taoism!
It is said that Comrade Jiang Ziya lived to the age of 139.
This is undoubtedly a lifespan to be extremely envied, but...
The biggest problem is that the era is too far in the past, and there are very few textual records left.
Even Xue Huaiyi, an "archaeologist" a thousand years later, struggled with this, let alone him, two thousand years later...
To cross the river by feeling the stones of an "ancestral" senior like Jiang Ziya?
Forget about the stones, it’s almost only the fragments that could be felt...
I would like to learn, but the conditions do not allow it!
However, speaking of the common origin of Buddhism and Taoism, it is actually Zen that has incorporated the most from Taoism, especially the theories of Zhuangzi, hence there is the saying: "Buddha was originally Tao."
And speaking of Zhuangzi... He is undoubtedly a mudslide in the clear stream of the Warring States cultural sphere!
This guy is labeled a subjective idealist, but in the end, it all comes down to the heart!
Yet, he was a sharp-tongued critic, disliked working, loved freedom, and took life easy.
Glorified as the ’Carefree Wander,’ in essence, it was just about two words—’happiness’!
Zhuangzi said: Govern by doing nothing that goes against nature, and heavenly nature is divine!
Because heavenly nature is divine, Zhuangzi advocated for the highest realm in human life to be independent, not relying on other things, and living carefree.
Therefore, there is "Heaven and Earth are born with me, and all things are one with me."
This is the famous Taoist concept of ’Unity of Heaven and Man.’
Also, because heavenly nature is divine, Zhuangzi was dissatisfied with how the philosophers of the hundred schools analyzed the chaotic states of affairs, particularly with the scientific spirit of the Logicians who scrutinized everything to the core.
He believed that learning is endless, life is short, and there is no need to toil and hurt one’s health over such...
Two words... lay flat!
If he were also one of my "seniors"...
Then the path he’d have chosen would probably be to delete the "technical appendix," reduce the mental burden, and encourage the brothers not to work or study, to neither have nor need fields at home, and to live a boundless life of joy...
Um... How long did Zhuangzi live again?
Seems like over eighty?
Given the average lifespan of the time, he definitely qualified as an immortal!
This is indeed a train of thought...
Could this be the third approach to resolving my own dilemma—just be happy and call it a day?
I am happy, the brothers are happy, so after "all things are one with me"...
My happiness doubles?
...
When he was walking out of the Great Hall with Master Intelligent, Meng Lang was still pondering the "way of happiness" from earlier, contemplating how to be as heartless as Zhuangzi...
As soon as he stepped outside, he saw in the courtyard a beautiful lady propping her chin, lost in thought under a Bodhi Tree.
The beauty was like a painting, the breeze passing by, stirring her sleeves and skirt...
What is happiness?
Happiness is when you...
Happiness is...
It’s like...
It’s similar to that thing...
After a moment of silence.
Meng Lang turned to Master Intelligent with a serious face and expressed his gratitude.
"Master Intelligent, your insight is profound, I too feel that I’m not quite cut out for studying Buddhism..."
Master Intelligent: "..."
