Chapter 589: Chapter 559: Scripture House

Yi Zheng nodded, "Ah... yes."

The scholar happily said, "My name is Qin Fen, I’m in charge of assigning chores. Are you a candidate from Wenchang Palace or Wenqu Palace?"

Yi Zheng responded, "Wenqu Palace."

Qin Fen looked at Yi Zheng in utter surprise, "From Wenqu Palace? That’s quite rare."

Yi Zheng became curious, "Do candidates from both Wenchang Palace and Wenqu Palace register here?"

Qin Fen nodded, "Of course, candidates from both Wenchang Palace and Wenqu Palace register together. They only attend different halls and are taught by different teachers when it’s time for classes.

In the previous exams, it was mostly candidates from Wenchang Palace; it has been a long while since I’ve seen a candidate from Wenqu Palace."

Yi Zheng asked, "Brother, which side are you on?"

Qin Fen smiled, "I’m also from Wenqu Palace."

Yi Zheng was instantly thrilled, "Ah, then we are family! Brother, you have to take care of me, okay?"

Qin Fen replied, "There aren’t many of us from the lineage of Wenqu Palace. As the Little Junior Brother, I will naturally take care of you."

While speaking, Qin Fen took out a bamboo token from his chest and handed it to Yi Zheng, "Take this to the Scripture House to check-in. This is one of the best jobs in Book Mountain."

Upon hearing this, Yi Zheng was overjoyed and repeatedly thanked him as he received the token, "By the way, brother, how do I get to the Scripture House?"

After thinking for a moment, Qin Fen said, "I’ll take you there."

With that, Qin Fen waved his hand and, carrying Yi Zheng, soared into the sky.

In the distance, Yi Zheng saw a large group of familiar faces heading towards the Chores Room. Yi Zheng asked, "Those people?"

Qin Fen disdainfully said, "They’re not my junior brothers; let them wait."

Yi Zheng immediately liked this seemingly gentle but actually domineering senior brother.

Quickly, Qin Fen brought Yi Zheng to a small mountain. At the top, a towering Scripture House stood, and an old man was sitting at the entrance sunbathing, his head resting on several books, humming a tune, seemingly in utter contentment.

Seeing Qin Fen bringing someone over, the old man immediately sat up, pulling out books from behind his head and under his bottom, pretending to read.

Qin Fen, no stranger to this sight, gave a wry smile and said, "Grandpa, this is the new junior brother, his name is Yi Zheng."

The old man lifted his eyelids and huffed, "He’s here, so he’s here. Why all the secrecy? You guys should know our Scripture House doesn’t accept gifts. Plus, this rabbit is too fat; too much cholesterol is bad for health."

Yi Zheng’s face darkened while Qin Fen went over to whisper a few words to the old man. The old man then looked at Yi Zheng in astonishment and repeatedly shook his head, "What a pity, what a pity..."

Then Yi Zheng noticed the old man stealthily slipping a knife into his pocket, this old fellow was saying no but was all set to bleed him!

Qin Fen then said to Yi Zheng, "Little Junior Brother, this is the Pavilion Master of the Scripture Pavilion, Old Master Sun Jinyan, one of the Twelve Pavilion Masters of Book Mountain. He will arrange your work here..."

Upon hearing this, Yi Zheng perked up and hurriedly clasped his hands in greeting, "I pay my respects to Old Brother!"

Qin Fen was startled and coughed as a reminder, "Old Master Sun Jinyan is actually three hundred and eighty thousand years old..."

Then the rabbit, eyes round and stunned, suddenly looked up incredulously at Qin Fen and said, "What did you say? Brother Sun is actually three hundred and eighty thousand years old? Impossible!"

The rabbit rushed up to Sun Jinyan, pointing at his face, which looked as if it had molded, full of wrinkles and said, "Look carefully, such a handsome and heroic face, how could it possibly be a face of three hundred and eighty thousand years? This is clearly a face of eighteen!"

Qin Fen was dumbfounded. He had received many candidates at Wenqu Palace, all sorts of characters, most of them seemingly humble but arrogant at heart. Even when meeting senior brothers and sisters, they were reluctant to bow their heads in greeting, and giving a nod was considered decent.

But this rabbit...

Something seemed off!

The qualities displayed by this fellow were something those scoundrels from Wenchang Palace couldn’t match.

And more importantly, this rabbit’s flattery was too obvious, he felt the need to remind this little junior brother that the person in front of him was the Pavilion Master of the Scripture Pavilion, one of the Twelve Sages of Book Mountain!

This was a presence only second to the two Star Lords of Book Mountain.

Such obvious, unsophisticated flattery was mostly going to hit the wrong target.

Therefore, Qin Fen said, "Junior Brother, Mr. Sun, be it by hierarchy or age..."

"What about the age? This little guy has good eyes, he actually discerned my real age!" Sun Jinyan suddenly spoke. He abruptly stood up, despite his hunched body, he stood straight and stern with a majestic aura like a young man and said, "However, there’s a bit of a discrepancy, I’m not eighteen but thirty-eight. Oh my... after so many years, I didn’t expect to be found out by a little rabbit."

Qin Fen was stunned on the spot, opening his mouth in disbelief as he looked left and right at Sun Jinyan, suspecting that this elderly man had been switched.

"Qin Fen, what are you looking at? Today is the day for mountain climbing, and there’s plenty of work to be done up the mountain," Sun Jinyan said.

Qin Fen was no rabbit. Although he was inherently proud, he understood the importance of respecting teachers and valuing the way. Facing Sun Jinyan, despite his somewhat shameless and brazen behavior, he respectfully bowed, "Master is right; I will go deal with those tasks over there."

Then Qin Fen thought for a moment; he needed to explain a couple of things properly to the rabbit, to avoid offending the Pavilion Master or breaking any rules...

But just as he had decided what to say, he looked up only to see the old man carrying the rabbit towards the Scripture Pavilion while walking and laughing, "Rabbit, good eyesight. Come on, say a few more words, let me listen..."

"A few words? How would a few words be enough?"

"With a face like yours lying here, you clearly wouldn’t dare go outside, would you?" Rabbit called out.

The old man frowned, "What do you mean by that?"

Rabbit said, "If you went out, how would all the fairies and Buddhist nuns continue their cultivation? Wouldn’t they all be distracted by your presence? Your appearance is absolutely peerless, handsome and invincible, number one in the three realms!"

The old man, his eyebrows dancing with delight, chuckled, "Hahaha... hehe, well... hahaha... go on."

Rabbit continued, "I’ve also been to the Pan Peach Festival, and I’ve seen the Jade Emperor. In terms of looks, he’s no match for you!"

"Cough, cough, cough..." The old man stumbled, nearly falling over, and quickly waved his hands, "I’m a bit less... a bit less... ha..."

Rabbit said, "Yes, just a tiny bit less. Mainly because he holds a higher office!"

The old man coughed violently but dared not join in the conversation, yet his gaze at Rabbit had clearly changed.

Though proud and self-confident, how could he dare compare himself to the Jade Emperor, the foremost figure in all the realms? He never expected Rabbit to be so bold as to even fabricate stories about the Jade Emperor.

However, he liked that sort of thing and laughed heartily, tapping Rabbit on the head, "Little Rabbit, you have a way with words. From now on, you’ll stay in the Scripture Pavilion. Don’t worry, with me here, you’ll eat and drink well. You can do as much or as little work in the pavilion as you want, or just keep this old man company."

"Thank you, wise and valiant Brother Sun, handsome to the extreme!" Rabbit shouted.

Sun Jinyan grinned...

Qin Fen suddenly felt like he was out of place here, and once again doubted whether Rabbit was pretending to be a candidate from the Wenqu Palace. However, he ultimately just sighed and turned to leave.

Entering the Scripture Pavilion with Sun Jinyan, Yi Zheng was immediately dumbfounded.

From the outside, the Scripture Pavilion didn’t seem large, but once inside, the space was frighteningly vast!

Most importantly, there were no bookshelves in the Scripture House, nor any books neatly and orderly placed.

Instead, countless books formed a vast ocean that undulated between heaven and earth.

You could even see rolls of ancient scriptures and heavenly books tangled together, rolling in like waves of books.

These books together exerted a terrifying pressure, nearly making Yi Zheng want to kneel on the spot, filled with a feeling of looking up to an immeasurable sky...

He even felt that if those waves crashed down, he would undoubtedly die!

However, with a wave of his hand, Sun Jinyan dispersed these massive waves.

Sun Jinyan then pulled out a jade badge from his chest to hang on Yi Zheng’s waist, but after fumbling for a long time, he frowned and looked at Rabbit’s plump body, asking, "Where’s your waist?"

Yi Zheng naturally replied, "Isn’t it the thinner part?"

Then Sun Jinyan hung the badge around his neck.

Yi Zheng: "..."

"Rabbit, this Scripture Pavilion has nine floors, and each floor has its own sea of books.

These seas of books gather all sorts of Grade articles from scholars throughout the world, containing literary and vast energies, which together can expel demons and eliminate evils..."

Upon hearing this, Yi Zheng exclaimed, "Doesn’t that mean it would eliminate me?"

Sun Jinyan laughed, "In theory, since you are a Rabbit Demon, eliminating you wouldn’t be a problem. However, since you’ve entered Book Mountain and received a token, your soul now bears the imprint of my Book Mountain. While still a demon, you’re not an evil one, so you won’t be eliminated.

Of course, you can’t wander around the Scripture House recklessly.

They won’t kill you, but if your ’literary energy’ isn’t enough, you can’t ascend to the higher floors.

If you force your way up, you might not die, but being bedridden for a few years is quite normal."

With that, you can confidently walk around this first floor of the sea of books."

Upon hearing this, Yi Zheng hurriedly said, "Can’t walk, can’t walk!"

Joking aside, he knew his own capabilities. His entry into the Wenqu Palace was purely opportunistic.

His literary skills?

He was good at cursing people, but entering the sea of books?

Wasn’t that just asking for trouble?

Sun Jinyan was surprised, "Why can’t you walk?"

Yi Zheng didn’t hide anything and simply recounted his bet with Wenqu Star Lord and how he managed to climb a million steps.

These weren’t secrets, and Sun Jinyan would find out sooner or later, so it might as well come from him.

Upon hearing this, Sun Jinyan was stunned, and after a moment, he burst into uproarious laughter, his laughter booming like heavenly thunder!

"Hahahahaha... So that’s how you entered Book Mountain Wenqu Palace! I was wondering, this rabbit, who’s more hair than culture, how could you possibly have entered Wenqu Palace through normal means." Sun Jinyan laughed heartily, but he didn’t look down on Rabbit, on the contrary, he seemed to like Rabbit even more.
