Ms.CEO Falls in Love with Aloof Professor
Chapter 91 - 91 89 This Three-Year-Old Baby

Chapter 91: Chapter 89 This Three-Year-Old Baby Chapter 91: Chapter 89 This Three-Year-Old Baby This was the first time Lu Jingyan had seen Sheng Xian smile.

When she saw him in the supermarket earlier, he had already suppressed all the negative energy he had exhibited outside the underground parking garage, appearing as if nothing had happened, but she always felt that his mood wasn’t as calm as he made it seem.

She really wanted to comfort him.

She wasn’t one for complicated thoughts, so she simply acted on her impulse.

But she never expected to make Sheng Xian laugh.

Sheng Xian looked very attractive when he smiled, leaving Lu Jingyan dumbfounded.

She thought he would just laugh once and be done, but after a two-second pause, he laughed again.

What did two consecutive laughs mean?

Was he laughing at her?

Lu Jingyan looked at Sheng Xian with an expressionless face, “What are you laughing at?”

She had left the house without putting on any makeup, and her sleep-flattened hair was carelessly scooped into a bun at the back of her head. A strand of hair had escaped and slipped down her neck into the collar of her sweater.

Without her makeup, she lacked her usual commanding aggressiveness. Although she was looking up at him with a somewhat serious expression, she actually had no intimidating power at all.

She was more like a little kid throwing a tantrum and seeking consolation from a parent.

Soft and adorable, it made one’s heart itch.

Sheng Xian couldn’t help but laugh out loud again.

It was a brief laugh that came from his throat.

Lu Jingyan: “…”

She had just asked him why he was laughing, and he was still laughing.

Lu Jingyan felt ridiculed.

She tried hard to act cute and playful to cheer him up, and he was making fun of her in return.

Lu Jingyan’s face tightened, and she let go of Sheng Xian’s clothes, stood up with the shopping cart, and turned around as if he didn’t exist, heading toward the checkout area.

Sheng Xian threw a few bags of candy she had pointed out into the cart and followed.

He usually didn’t smile much, not because he was pretending to be aloof, but because there wasn’t much that he found worth smiling about.

Today, for some reason, he had a very low threshold for laughter, almost like someone with a disability.

He looked at the little student marching ahead in high dudgeon, and feeling quite good, he called out to her, “Little Fish.”

Lu Jingyan didn’t even turn her head back as she asked, “What?”.

Sheng Xian: “Slow down, I can’t keep up.”

Lu Jingyan subconsciously looked back.

The person who supposedly couldn’t keep up had a shopping cart that was already half a length ahead of hers.

Professor Sheng sure could tell blatant lies with eyes wide open.

Lu Jingyan curled her lip and turned to exit through the non-shopping lane.

Sheng Xian was left behind, forced to queue in the shopping lane.

There were only two people ahead of Sheng Xian, and in less than five minutes, he had paid for his purchases and stepped out of the supermarket with two bags in hand.

The little student was standing right across from the supermarket’s exit. Seeing him approach, she immediately turned and headed for the elevator.

Sheng Xian felt like laughing again at her behavior.

He recalled the scene at the Four Seasons Hotel, where she had fought with Bo Mu, and forced the smile that was about to show on his lips back down.

The little student had already been teased until her fur exploded. If he laughed at her again now, considering her temperament, she was likely to start a fight with him right there in the bustling supermarket.

The supermarket was very close to home, just a five-minute drive away.

Lu Jingyan wasn’t really angry; she was just a bit embarrassed by Sheng Xian’s laughter. By the time she got downstairs to her home, that embarrassment had entirely dissipated.

When they got back home, Sheng Xian put down the things they had bought and glanced at the dining table, realizing that the food he had ordered at noon was barely touched.

He frowned slightly and asked, “Didn’t it suit your taste?”

“Huh?” Lu Jingyan followed his gaze to the dining table and realized he was referring to the food: “No, didn’t you say you’d be back soon? I thought I’d wait so we could eat together.”

Lu Jingyan felt that what he’d said was perfectly reasonable, but for some reason, Sheng Xian kept looking at her several times.

Just as she began to feel uneasy under his gaze, he picked up his coat that he’d taken off and said indifferently, “Let’s go, go out for dinner.”

The two didn’t go far, and by the time they got back from dinner, it was already nearly five o’clock.

Tomorrow was Monday, and they had to get up early for work. Due to the unforeseen events of the previous day, Lu Jingyan hadn’t taken anything with him when he left, so now his only choice was to go back home.

Before leaving, she thought about how Sheng Xian had looked in the underground parking garage and couldn’t help but look back at him.

He seemed about the same as usual, but she just felt a bit worried.

Her relationship with Sheng Xian was quite strange, as both of them could tell that the other was hiding something.

She wouldn’t let him ask, and so he really didn’t ask.

The reason he had chosen to meet with that person at lunchtime was to prevent her from knowing about their affair, and she, knowing her place, hadn’t asked.

Between people, no matter how familiar they are, there are lines that should not be crossed.

Lu Jingyan understood this very well, but she found that with Sheng Xian, she really wanted to cross that line.

She wanted to know who the woman at noon was.

She wanted to know what exactly had happened between them.

She wanted to know why Sheng Xian had changed after meeting her.

Seeing Lu Jingyan standing at the door, lost in thought, Sheng Xian asked, “What are you thinking about?”

Lu Jingyan blinked, bringing her wandering thoughts back, “I’m thinking about… how to cheer you up.”

Sheng Xian looked at her and remained silent.

Lu Jingyan hesitated for a while but ultimately decided not to cross that line, and didn’t tell him she had been to the parking garage at noon: “That person at noon, judging by her mannerisms, you could tell it wasn’t anything good, so I thought you might not have been especially happy after seeing her.”

After speaking, Lu Jingyan felt a bit of regret. Sheng Xian might have been over it, and by bringing it up now, was she reopening an old wound?

She observed Sheng Xian for a while and, seeing that his expression was quite calm, she slowly continued, “When I was upset last night, didn’t you try to cheer me up? I think it’s only fair to return the favor before I leave, to try to cheer you up.”

Sheng Xian’s eyelashes trembled slightly.

He realized that she always managed to touch the softest part of his heart when he least expected it.

Like her playful sulking in the supermarket, like just now when she said she’d wait to eat dinner with him, and like the current offer to cheer him up.

With emotion swirling in his chest, Sheng Xian’s voice was slightly hoarse, “How do you want to cheer me up?”

Lu Jingyan genuinely didn’t know how to cheer someone up, she looked at Sheng Xian and thought for a moment, “How about a hug?”

Sheng Xian stood there as still as a painting, looking at her open arms, motionless.

After a long while, he cleared his throat and looked up, “No need.”

Lu Jingyan blinked, considering her tendency to brazenly flirt with him and thinking he might have misunderstood her, “It’s okay, by hug, I mean just a simple embrace, like the one you give to a friend or colleague when they’re feeling down.”

Lu Jingyan, worried that Sheng Xian might still be confused, was about to ask if he understood.

Sheng Xian, staring straight at her, suddenly said, “There’s no need for tit-for-tat.”

Lu Jingyan stopped the words she was about to say.

She paused for two seconds, then realized his “no need” was not about the hug but about the need for tit-for-tat.

Sheng Xian said, “Even if we were to do tit-for-tat, it should be me.”

She had already tried to cheer him up several times today. If there were to be a tit-for-tat, it should be his turn to cheer her up.

Lu Jingyan was utterly confused, wondering how it had turned to be about him.

While she was still in a daze, Sheng Xian had somehow picked up a bag.

Inside were several packets of milk candy.

It was the brand she had pointed out casually at the supermarket.

When had he bought them, and how did she not notice?

As Lu Jingyan raised her head, about to reach Sheng Xian’s collar, Sheng Xian suddenly leaned in, meeting her eyes.

He reached out and gently brushed her bangs, with the same tone he’d used when talking to the little girl in the supermarket, “This three-year-old baby, remember to brush your teeth after eating the candy.”
