Chapter 83 - 83 81 Waiting for Someone
Chapter 83: Chapter 81 Waiting for Someone Chapter 83: Chapter 81 Waiting for Someone Yang Xu was stunned.
The gathering at his table all fell silent too.
The wine glass with the soaking phone bubbled up continuously.
Yang Xu was quiet for a full five seconds before cursing, “Lu Jingyan, you—”
Before he could finish his sentence, Lu Jingyan suddenly leaned in toward Yang Xu.
In the dimly lit nightclub, her skin was so white it seemed to glow. She had reapplied her lipstick after having dinner and shopping with Song Xian, choosing a matte burnt tomato color.
But her gaze was indifferent, her face expressionless; she seemed completely aloof, like a cold, unfeeling machine—even the words she spoke were slow and cool.
“The one begging was Lu Zhou, not me, Lu Jingyan.”
“Whatever deal you have between you is your business. Don’t drag me into it.”
“Don’t think that just because Lu Zhou managed to manipulate his dad to have us dine together a couple of times, you can assume I’m going to marry you. Let me make this clear to you, not only am I, Lu Jingyan, not a commodity, even if I were, who I get sold to is for me to decide.”
“He, Lu Zhou, cannot make decisions for me.”
The silence around was deafening.
Lu Jingyan straightened up, didn’t even glance at anyone’s expressions at the table, and walked away.
After exiting the club, Lu Jingyan pressed her car key, pulled open the door, climbed in, and floored the gas pedal, speeding straight out.
Ten minutes later, the car stopped in front of a French-style villa.
Lu Jingyan got out, walked up to the front door, and continuously rang the doorbell.
Soon, the villa’s door was pushed open, and a servant ran out, “Miss Lu, what brings you here?”
“Is Lu Zhou here?” Lu Jingyan pushed past the servant and stormed into the villa.
The servant said, “The young master is upstairs.”
Lu Jingyan didn’t speak, placed her bag on the shoe cabinet at the door entrance, took a turn round the living room, and grabbed a golf club from the shelf before heading straight to the second floor.
The door to Lu Zhou’s room was unlocked. Standing at the doorway, Lu Jingyan could hear Lu Zhou talking on the phone.
“Xu, calm down, I will definitely bring her to apologize to you.”
“Don’t worry, Xu, I’ll go find her soon and make sure to teach her a lesson.”
“Xu, she’s out of her mind. Don’t stoop to her level…”
Lu Jingyan kicked the door open.
“Who?!” Lu Zhou, who was in the middle of apologizing, turned abruptly, saw Lu Jingyan, and his face immediately soured, speaking into the phone, “Sorry, Xu, I’ll call you back later,” then he hung up, threw his phone aside, and looked at Lu Jingyan furiously, “Lu Jingyan, are you fucking insane?”
“Why does it matter if you went with Yang Xu for a few drinks?”
“You slut around like a whore outside anyway, and now you’re playing the innocent girl.”
Lu Jingyan raised her hand, swinging the golf club and smashing it onto the TV in Lu Zhou’s bedroom.
The TV shook a few times before crashing to the ground.
Lu Zhou leapt off the bed, ready to explode, and yelled even louder.
Lu Jingyan didn’t want to say anything, clutching the golf club, she mercilessly swung at the expensive collectibles lined up in Lu Zhou’s bedroom cabinet.
“Damn it, do you even know how much those things are worth?!”
“Lu Jingyan, fucking stop it; are you mad?”
“Shit, someone, come here.”
Alerted by the noise, two servants ran upstairs, but seeing the chaos inside, none dared to enter.
“Miss Lu, please stop.”
“Miss Lu, don’t hurt the young master.”
Lu Jingyan ignored them, specifically targeting valuable items in Lu Zhou’s room to smash.
Before long, the luxuriously furnished bedroom looked as though it had been robbed, a complete mess.
Lu Jingyan, still not relieved, thought for a moment before leaving. He took a golf club, smashed all the mirrors in Lu Zhou’s dressing room, and then, feeling slightly better, hurled the golf club at Lu Zhou’s feet with force, glared at him, and turned to walk towards the door.
Two servants saw her and immediately stepped aside to make way.
Just as Lu Jingyan was about to step forward, the elevator doors opened, and Lu Hongcheng, who was returning home, stepped out.
He saw Lu Jingyan and paused, “Why are you here?”
Lu Jingyan did not speak.
Upon hearing Lu Hongcheng’s voice, Lu Zhou called out, “Dad.”
Lu Hongcheng walked over and seeing the state of Lu Zhou’s bedroom, frowned, “What happened?”
Lu Zhou: “What else could happen? It was Lu Jingyan. She went crazy and trashed my room. I just let her drink with Yang Xu, and she did this. She’s always out partying and never home, so what’s wrong with drinking with Yang Xu?”
Lu Hongcheng, being a man experienced in weathering storms, was much more composed than Lu Zhou. Facing Lu Zhou’s rant, he looked towards Lu Jingyan, “Did you do this?”
Lu Jingyan hummed a response.
Lu Hongcheng: “Apologize.”
Lu Jingyan remained silent.
Lu Hongcheng intensified his tone, “Apologize to your brother!”
Lu Jingyan pursed her lips, raised her head to meet Lu Hongcheng’s gaze, “I won’t enter into an arranged marriage, and you should stop introducing me to any Mr. Yang, Mr. Zhang, or Mr. Song. I met those strange people before just because I thought that after all, we are a family and I didn’t want to make things too ugly.”
“But I’ve realized that to you, I’m just a sacrifice to make Lu Zhou acceptable to the board of directors. These many years, I have kept quiet, but that doesn’t mean I don’t understand. Lu Zhou is useless, nothing more than incapable trash.”
“You may choose to indulge him, and that’s your affair. He’s not my son, nor does he call me ‘mom.’ I have no reason to always yield to him—”
Lu Hongcheng stepped forward and slapped her across the face.
He really put strength into it, and Lu Jingyan’s face was sharply turned to the side.
Since her parents left, Lu Hongcheng had raised her, and it had been almost ten years now. In these ten years, although Lu Hongcheng had lost his temper and hit his two sons, he had never hit her.
At first, she thought Lu Hongcheng cared for her, and perhaps there really was an element of affection, but later, she clearly understood why he treated her that way.
It was so that one day, he could sell her for a good price, to make the Lu Family’s stocks double.
Lu Hongcheng’s slap was truly fierce, its smack unusually piercing.
It even scared the furious Lu Zhou.
Aside from a slightly burning sensation on her face, Lu Jingyan didn’t feel much pain.
She quietly looked at Lu Hongcheng, said nothing more, and after about three or four seconds, she walked past him and headed down the stairs.
Lu Hongcheng turned to look at her, “Lu Jingyan, don’t forget that everything you have today was given to you by the Lu Family, including your current company. I can send someone tomorrow to take it back from you.”
Lu Jingyan’s steps downstairs didn’t stop.
Lu Hongcheng, furious, continued to warn her.
As if she hadn’t heard, Lu Jingyan walked steadily to the door, grabbed her bag, pushed the door open, and walked out.
As the door closed behind her, Lu Hongcheng’s voice was completely shut out.
She looked up at the pitch-black sky, unable to describe her feelings at that moment.
It was like being sad, yet it wasn’t quite like sadness.
She was just wondering when she could leave this house.
No one knew, but she had been waiting all these years.
Waiting for someone.
Someone who could take her out of this cage.
