Ms.CEO Falls in Love with Aloof Professor -
Chapter 140 - 140 134 My Arms Are Sore
Chapter 140: Chapter 134: My Arms Are Sore Chapter 140: Chapter 134: My Arms Are Sore A dense, dark terror instantly crept over Lu Jingyan’s entire body. She struggled mightily to control her trembling body, her breathing becoming somewhat rapid.
The person was still laughing, looking eerily sinister.
Before he could speak again, a familiar voice came from behind them, “Eh? Miss Lu?”
The person standing in front of her stopped the words that were at the tip of his tongue, following the voice with his gaze. In the next moment, he hid his smile, pulling up his sweater collar to cover his face again, and with only his eyes showing, he stared at her with a gloomy gaze and said in a lowered voice, “Little Jingyan, I will always follow you.”
Lu Jingyan’s body stiffened.
The person didn’t linger, brushing past her as he walked away.
The assistant came over, “Miss Lu, what are you doing here? Are you here to attend Professor Sheng’s trial?”
Lu Jingyan couldn’t say anything, barely nodding her head.
“Why didn’t you say so earlier—” The assistant noticed her pale face, “Miss Lu, what’s wrong with you? You look so unwell. Are you feeling sick?”
“No,” Lu Jingyan forcibly calmed her emotions, “Where is Sheng Xian?”
“He’s inside the courthouse. I just went to park the car; all the nearby parking spots are taken.” Just as the traffic light across the street turned green again, the assistant pointed, “Let’s go, Miss Lu.”
Lu Jingyan murmured an acknowledgment, absentmindedly following Sheng Xian’s assistant onto the sidewalk.
Crossing the street and entering the courthouse, Lu Jingyan finally turned to look back.
The man from before was nowhere to be seen, as if he had never appeared.
Inside the courthouse, Lu Jingyan found an excuse and left the assistant to go to the ladies’ room.
She entered a stall at random, leaned against the door, and subconsciously reached for her bag.
It took her a long while to realize she had quit smoking a long time ago.
The way that person looked at her just now and the words he said were vividly etched in her mind.
After so many years, his appearance had changed quite a bit, possibly due to his time in prison; he looked much older than his peers, but the way he looked at people hadn’t changed at all.
No, it was even more insane and disgusting than before.
That person was a pervert.
A genuine pervert.
As she was thinking, her phone in the bag vibrated. Lu Jingyan took it out; it was a message from Sheng Xian.
Sheng Xian: “Where are you?”
He must have been told by the assistant who saw her.
Lu Jingyan glanced at the time; the trial was about to start. She tapped the screen and replied: “You go ahead with the important matters; see you later.”
Sheng Xian: “Okay.”
Lu Jingyan sent back an emoticon for encouragement, and noticing many unread notifications, she quickly scanned them.
That garbled account had sent her two private messages five minutes ago.
“Little Jingyan, I feel like you’ve become even cuter than before.”
“I wonder how Jian Mo is doing now. I heard he’s gone insane, with the intelligence of a three-year-old…”
…
Lu Jingyan didn’t go to the courtroom. She left straight after coming out of the restroom.
She struggled to walk the short distance to the parking lot.
Halfway there, she couldn’t hold up anymore and simply squatted down on the ground.
She was very scared.
She had been scared when that person was in prison.
She had suffered nightmares for so many years and never fully emerged from the psychological shadow he had cast upon her.
Now he was there, alive and well, once again invading her world…
Lu Jingyan hesitated to continue her thoughts; she didn’t know what was awaiting her.
Would history repeat itself, would the nightmares recur, or… would it be mutual destruction?
…
After the trial ended, Sheng Xian came out of the courthouse and realized that at some point, spring rain had started to fall.
The rain wasn’t heavy, drizzling, and looked like it would last a while.
Sheng Xian looked around and couldn’t find Lu Jingyan, so he used his phone to call her.
No answer.
The assistant somehow got a large black umbrella and ran to the courthouse entrance in the soggy ground, “Professor Sheng, shall we go?”
Sheng Xian put away his phone, which failed to connect the call again, left a “Call me back when you see this” message on WeChat for Lu Jingyan, and looked up, “Let’s go.”
The assistant had already brought the car to the courthouse entrance. Sheng Xian got into the car and took out his phone to check it once more.
There was still no sign from Lu Jingyan.
The assistant started the car and hit the road, asking, “Professor Sheng, where to?”
Sheng Xian lifted his eyelids, about to speak when he saw, through the rain-spattered window, a person crouching in the rain on the side of the road.
…
Lu Jingyan didn’t know how long she had squatted there, her mind a mess, not even noticing the rain.
Cars came and went on the road in front of her while occasionally, a pedestrian passed behind her.
She felt as if she were isolated from the world, sitting alone in a daze.
As it rained, the sky darkened faster, and as the surrounding lights came on one by one, she blinked while looking at the ground, finally snapping back to reality.
Her legs, numb from squatting for too long, lost all sensation. She rubbed them, trying to stand up, when she caught sight of the rain-soaked leather shoes beside her.
Following the shoes upward, she saw wet trouser legs and enviously long legs.
Lu Jingyan was startled for a moment before she continued to look up.
It was Sheng Xian, drenched in a black suit, merging with the black umbrella he held. Most of his body was soaked by the rain.
Lu Jingyan thought to herself, what was he doing to get wet while holding an umbrella?
She was stunned then lifted her head to look at the sky.
The umbrella was completely covering her head.
The ground around where she was squatting was dry.
Lu Jingyan pursed her lips and met Sheng Xian’s gaze, his head slightly lowered as he looked at her.
He didn’t know how long he had been standing there, the dense spring rain soaking his clothes and hair.
Behind him were green traffic lights and neon signs, the lights blurred through the drizzle as if filtered.
Lu Jingyan felt a bit dazed, the scene before her seemed so unreal it could have been a dream.
The two stared at each other in silence for an indeterminable length of time.
Sheng Xian moved slightly forward, looking down at her, and broke the silence, “You finally noticed me.”
“Holding the umbrella for you until—”
He paused a moment, his tone lingering, “Your brother’s arms are getting sore.”
