Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Could it be a Kidnapping?
On the winding mountain road, a black Bentley sped along.
After the car came to a stop, the bodyguard opened the back door and bowed respectfully, "Sir, you’re back."
The man nodded, got out of the car, and said to the bodyguard behind him, "Take him to the guest room and let him rest well."
"Yes." The bodyguard replied respectfully, then looked toward the back seat. A little boy, about three years old, was leaning against the car window with his eyes closed, seemingly asleep.
When his gaze landed on the little boy’s face, he was taken aback. This, how...
After a moment of shock, he bent down and carried the little boy out of the car. It was then that he realized the boy wasn’t asleep but rather had fainted, probably knocked out on the way back.
So, he carried the little fellow into the villa.
....
Ye Xinluo and Lan Shan arrived at the police station. Thanks to Lan Shan, the police quickly issued a missing persons notice. They were told to go home and wait for news, promising to notify them as soon as there was any progress.
But Ye Xinluo insisted on not leaving. Lan Shan had no choice but to accompany her, and they just sat on the chairs in the lobby.
Housekeeper Ning had bought some things, but Ye Xinluo didn’t eat a bit. Lan Shan was worried about Jingxi too and didn’t eat either. The two just sat there without moving.
In the evening, when the police station was closing, an officer came out of the office, saw them still sitting there, and walked over. "You should go back first. Sitting here is useless," he said and left without looking back.
Lan Shan glanced at the sky outside, then turned to look at Ye Xinluo. Since coming to the station, Xinluo hadn’t eaten anything. She couldn’t go on like this.
After thinking for a moment, she spoke up, "Xinluo, why don’t we go back and wait for news?"
Ye Xinluo didn’t answer her question, instead staring blankly ahead.
"Xinluo, don’t scare me. Just say something." Ever since Jingxi went missing, Xinluo hadn’t spoken much.
Jingxi meant the world to Xinluo; Lan Shan understood this all too well. She was really afraid that Xinluo couldn’t hold on.
"Xinluo, let’s go home first, okay? Jingxi will be fine."
"Shanshan, do you think Jingxi might have been kidnapped?" Ye Xinluo’s voice was a bit hoarse from not speaking for so long, her throat dry.
Suddenly, a bottle of water was handed to her. Lan Shan held the water in one hand and supported Ye Xinluo with the other.
She took a few sips. "Thank you."
"Why are you being so polite with me?" Lan Shan chuckled, "Xinluo, shall we go back first?"
Ye Xinluo nodded. Having sat on the chair for so long, she felt somewhat unsteady when she stood up, almost falling. Fortunately, Lan Shan quickly held her up.
The two walked out of the police station. Housekeeper Ning had been waiting for a while. Upon seeing them come out, he hurriedly opened the door to the back seat.
Lan Shan helped Ye Xinluo get in, then Housekeeper Ning closed the car door, walked to the driver’s seat, opened the door, and got in.
.....
By the time they got back home, it was already past eight in the evening. Neither of them had much appetite and just freshened up briefly before getting ready to rest.
They said they would rest, but Ye Xinluo and Lan Shan couldn’t really sleep. With Jingxi still missing, how could they fall asleep?
Knock, knock, knock....
There came a knock on the door. Lan Shan’s eyebrows furrowed. Who would come this late?
She walked to the door and opened it. Housekeeper Ning stood at the door with a bag of food, "Miss Lan, I went to buy some food. You and Miss Ye should eat something first."
Lan Shan didn’t say much, reaching out to take the bag. "Thank you, Housekeeper Ning."
Housekeeper Ning smiled and said, "Miss Lan, please help comfort Miss Ye’s emotions. I bear some responsibility for this incident. I truly deserve punishment." As he spoke, his eyes reddened.
He greatly adored Jingxi, treating him like his own grandson. Losing him this time while in his care was truly distressing. If the master hadn’t told him to stay and redeem himself,
otherwise, he wouldn’t have the face to stay here anymore.
"Housekeeper Ning, don’t say that. You can’t be blamed for Jingxi’s disappearance. Moreover, those people were so skilled. You couldn’t handle them alone, could you?"
Lan Shan chuckled, indicating that discussing this wouldn’t help now. The urgent priority was to find Jingxi, not to blame each other here.
"Miss Lan, you should go inside. I’ll head back first. I’ll notify you as soon as there’s any news."
"Okay, thank you."
.....
After Housekeeper Ning left, Lan Shan took the food and went straight into the bedroom. Ye Xinluo was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, daydreaming.
She took the food out of the bag.
Housekeeper Ning was quite thoughtful, knowing they couldn’t eat much now, he only bought two servings of century egg and lean meat porridge.
"Xinluo, eat something first." Lan Shan said, looking at Ye Xinluo.
Ye Xinluo snapped back to reality, glanced at the things on the table, and said in a low voice, "I don’t want to eat, no appetite."
Lan Shan got up and went over to Ye Xinluo. "That won’t do. If you don’t eat, your body will wear out."
"Shanshan, I really have no appetite." Ye Xinluo forced a smile. She wanted to reassure Shanshan, but she really didn’t want to eat.
"Xinluo, you must eat something. There’s still no news of Jingxi. You can’t collapse like this. We need to keep healthy while waiting for the little guy to come home.
If Jingxi comes back and finds you haven’t eaten, he’ll be upset."
Lan Shan spoke at length, earnestly and patiently, and finally, Ye Xinluo reluctantly agreed to eat a little.
Seeing her willing to eat, Lan Shan handed over the porridge Housekeeper Ning bought with a smile, "Xinluo, for Jingxi, you mustn’t fall."
Ye Xinluo gave a knowing smile, "Shanshan, thank you."
"Why thank me?" Lan Shan, surprised, didn’t understand her meaning.
"Thank you for being willing to be with me."
Placing the porridge aside, she grabbed Lan Shan’s hand, "Shanshan, thank you. Thank you for staying by my side."
Lan Shan snorted proudly, "Shameless, I’m staying here for Jingxi."
Ye Xinluo was amused by her words and didn’t expose her.
"Alright, eat quickly. It won’t taste good once it gets cold."
"Mmm."
After finishing their meal, they lay down on the bed early. This time Lan Shan didn’t sleep alone in another room but shared a bed with her like they did during their school days.
Ye Xinluo stared at the ceiling for a long time before speaking, "Shanshan, who do you think took Jingxi this time?"
Lan Shan thought for a moment but didn’t have any ideas, so she said, "I don’t know. Think carefully, is there really no one you’ve offended?"
Ye Xinluo shook her head. She had been abroad for years, how could she have grudges with anyone? Even before, she had no friends, let alone enemies.
Seeing her shake her head, Lan Shan felt puzzled too. If it wasn’t enemies, then who could it be?
"Xinluo, could it be that you or Jingxi have something they want?"
"We’re just a mother and son with nothing. What could they possibly want?" Even if there was something they wanted, why take Jingxi?
"Well, let’s not think about it if we can’t figure it out. Since the police asked us to wait for news, let’s just wait peacefully. No one’s called demanding money, so Jingxi must be safe."
