Chapter 366: Chapter 366: The Proposal

"Qinglan, can you stop overthinking? Old Yin has already taken down the news online; no one will remember anymore. Besides, this isn’t your fault. Let’s just pretend nothing ever happened."

Nangong Li’s slender fingers gently wiped tears away from Qinglan’s eyes as he comforted her tenderly.

Upon hearing this, Qinglan’s damp eyelashes trembled slightly, her voice hoarse with the aftermath of crying, "How is it not my fault? How could I have such thoughts about my brother? How can I face him in the future?"

Her painstakingly suppressed feelings had been so blatantly exposed to the public.

She had even shamelessly clung to her brother, demanding his affection and kisses!

How could she be so indecent, so disgraceful?

She could not bear to face Yin Moran, nor endure the strange looks from others!

Why not just end it all?

Qinglan bit her lip, pressing so hard that her increasingly pale lips began to show signs of strain.

Nangong Li’s heart was conflicted by urgency and anger, his narrow eyes faintly tinged red.

"Qinglan, who can truly control matters of the heart? You’ve already done so well!"

This wasn’t her fault!

Isn’t it perfectly normal for a woman to be drawn to an outstanding man?

She hadn’t intentionally sabotaged anyone’s feelings; she was simply a young woman secretly infatuated with her own unattainable idol.

If it weren’t for those despicable schemers who deliberately caused this, her feelings might have remained buried forever.

If blame must be assigned, it ought to fall on those shameless troublemakers!

"Don’t comfort me! I am indeed vile, indeed shameless, not a good woman! If I truly were a good woman, I would never have such thoughts about my brother. Go away, just go away! Stay far away from me, and don’t bother with a morally corrupt woman like me!"

Qinglan, overcome by emotion, violently shrugged off Nangong Li’s hand. Her arm, connected to an IV drip, began to backflow due to her frantic movements.

Nangong Li’s face filled with concern. He quickly pressed her shoulders down, raising his voice slightly.

"Qinglan, calm down! Will you listen to me for just a moment?"

Qinglan sobbed uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face as she broke down.

Nangong Li’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he stared at Qinglan’s tear-streaked face, gently but earnestly saying, "Qinglan, in my eyes, you are the kindest and purest girl in the whole world. You should know—we grew up together, and I’ve been waiting all along for you to agree to marry me. It’s my fault for not being clear enough, for not having the courage to propose formally. But now, I don’t want to wait any longer. Qinglan, I want you to be my wife. Will you marry me?"

He shouldn’t have been so indecisive.

He shouldn’t have waited, hoping she would completely discard the obsession in her heart before officially proposing.

If he had asked her to marry him sooner, perhaps none of this would have happened.

The man’s handsome face was full of sincerity, with his usual carefree attitude entirely replaced by a steady determination, inspiring trust almost involuntarily.

Qinglan, her tear-filled eyes gazing at him, momentarily forgot to cry as she stared blankly.

Nangong Li’s lips curved into a charming smile as his slender fingers wiped away her glistening tears, his voice gentle and magnetic.

"Qinglan, although I don’t have flowers or a ring prepared right now, please trust me—I’m sincere about my feelings for you. I love you, and I want you to be my wife. We’ll get married. If you want a grand wedding, I’ll give you a lifelong unforgettable celebration. But I know you’re not fond of crowds. So, if you don’t want the attention, we’ll go on a honeymoon, find some serene and romantic places, and enjoy our time together, just the two of us. How does that sound?"

The man’s appearance was strikingly handsome, his narrowed eyes brimming with affection as he looked at her deeply, exuding traces of allure.

Qinglan’s thoughts momentarily froze. Her mind was in disarray as she struggled to respond, her lips slightly parted as she stared at him dazedly.

Her flushed eyes resembled those of a small rabbit caught by a hunter—helpless and endearing, evoking tender sympathy.

Nangong Li took a deep breath, stood up to tidy his clothes, and clasped her hand firmly with one of his, slowly dropping to one knee.

"Qinglan, if you don’t agree to marry me today, I’m not getting up."

The truth had been laid bare; now he had to seize this opportunity decisively.

Qinglan’s almond-shaped eyes flickered as her myriad thoughts finally began to settle.

She bit her lower lip, her gaze shifting from his dashing face to the hand holding hers.

At this moment, she could clearly feel a thin layer of sweaty dampness on his palm.

Was he nervous?

Such a fool.

Qinglan’s eyes grew misty once again.

Through the haze, she noticed the fresh bloodstains on Nangong Li’s hand. Hastily wiping her tears, she asked in a raspy voice full of concern, "What happened to your hand?"

His hand?

Nangong Li was still anxiously awaiting Qinglan’s reply.

At her question, he instinctively glanced at his own hand, only to realize that his knuckles had been scraped and swollen from punching the wall in a fit of rage while she was rushed to the emergency room.

"It’s nothing, just a minor injury. Qinglan, you still haven’t answered my question."

Had she finally shown some concern for him?

This was a good sign.

Qinglan sniffled and glanced at Nangong Li before lowering her eyes to his wounded hand, a trace of relief flashing in her gaze.

"You know I don’t like crowds."

Not liking crowds?

So, was she indirectly telling him she accepted his proposal!

Nangong Li’s expression grew increasingly excited.

Seeing her trying to sit up in bed, he quickly stood up to help her.

"Qinglan, pinch me—am I dreaming? Did you just agree to marry me?"

Watching the boyish excitement on his face, Qinglan bit her lip. Her watery eyes gazed at him, and the corners of her lips unintentionally curved upward.

Nangong Li, who had been closely observing her, immediately caught her expression. Grinning widely, he hugged her tightly.

"Qinglan, you finally smiled! Don’t cry anymore. My wife should live freely and boldly! My heart’s pounding so hard, Qinglan—feel it. Don’t scare me like that ever again, alright?"

"Mm, got it. Nangong Li, let go of me first. Let me take a look at your hand."

"Ah—ouch! It hurts! Wife, blow on it for me!"

"Who’s your wife?"

"My wife is, of course, Qinglan!"

"....."

Standing by the ajar doorway, Lin Qian quietly observed the emotional yet heartwarming scene, smiling softly as she closed the door.

Nangong Li actually proposed to Qinglan!

And she agreed!

She was truly happy for him!

"Qianqian."

A deep voice belonging to Yin Moran sounded from behind.

Lin Qian quickly turned around, placing a finger against her lips in a shushing motion.

"Keep it down. Don’t go in and disturb them. Mr. Li is proposing to Qinglan, and she accepted!"
