Chapter 324: Do You Want Money?

Chapter 324: Chapter 324: Do You Want Money?

In the northern suburb, dark clouds blotted out the sun, and a cluster of unfinished high-rises stood side by side.

The cold wind swept in, rustling the leaves with a whispery sound.

At the top floor of one of these towering structures, two women lay motionless on the unprotected edge.

They were tied together, curled up in a heap, unconscious on the ground.

These two women were none other than Lin Qian and Gu Yan, who had been captured by Lin Yi.

Another gust of wind blew across. Lin Qian’s eyelashes trembled faintly as she slowly came to.

Opening her eyes, she was met with a vast expanse of cold steel-reinforced concrete.

Where was this place?

What had happened to her?

Lin Qian’s thoughts churned sluggishly before everything came rushing back.

Gu Yan had been taken by Lin Yi. She had chased after them in a hurry, only to be discovered by Lin Yi halfway through...

So, she had been captured as well?

Lin Qian tried to move her body, wanting to get up, but found that her hands and feet were completely immobilized.

Behind her, a warm body was pressed against hers.

Who was that?

Lin Qian awkwardly turned her head. The scent of a woman’s perfume and the color of her clothing confirmed that the person bound with her was Gu Yan.

"Gu Yan, wake up!"

Lin Qian murmured softly, lips barely moving.

She scanned her surroundings, realizing that the two of them were on the top floor while Lin Yi was nowhere to be seen.

She could only hope Gu Yan would regain consciousness soon so they could attempt an escape.

Gu Yan let out a faint groan, slowly coming to her senses.

Her expression transitioned from initial confusion to focus, and then pure terror as she began to struggle in alarm.

"Where am I? Did someone kidnap me? Help, someone, please!"

Hearing Gu Yan’s shrill voice, Lin Qian furrowed her brows tightly and rolled her eyes before chastising in a low tone, "Shut up."

This cursed place—shouting like that wouldn’t summon any rescuer, only alert Lin Yi, whose whereabouts were currently unknown.

"Lin Qian? It’s you? How on earth did you get captured too?"

Recognizing Lin Qian’s voice, Gu Yan struggled to move, and the two slowly managed to sit upright, though still bound back-to-back.

"I saw you get into Lin Yi’s car and felt something wasn’t right, so I hailed a cab to follow you. Who could’ve guessed..."

Who could’ve guessed Lin Yi would notice, resulting in her own capture.

Lin Qian didn’t elaborate further, instead scanning their surroundings, looking for any sharp object or shard that could cut through the ropes binding them.

"Lin Yi? Which Lin Yi? Are you saying that the person who kidnapped us is Lin Yi? He..."

Gu Yan froze, then suddenly remembered. "It’s him! The former president of Lin’s Trading, the same man you went on that arranged date with!"

It was him?

Lin Yi, the eldest son of the Lin Family.

Once a rising star in business circles, his career had been smooth sailing.

But after that blind date with Lin Qian, Lin’s Trading came under heavy pressure from the Yin Group.

Meanwhile, the second son of the Lin Family seized the opportunity to take control as the head of the household, ousting Lin Yi from power.

Now, Lin Yi had fallen so far in elite circles that he was virtually invisible.

Who could have predicted he’d resort to kidnapping today?

Gu Yan’s thoughts whirled. Suddenly, she turned her head angrily toward Lin Qian, accusing, "Lin Qian, did you do it on purpose? You sensed something was wrong, so why didn’t you warn me? What were you thinking?"

Lin Qian couldn’t help but scoff at that. "Gu Yan, how about blaming yourself instead? You didn’t take the ride-share you booked on the platform but hopped into a random man’s car? Did your brain short-circuit?"

Blame her?

If Lin Qian hadn’t been too kindhearted, worrying about Gu Yan’s safety, she wouldn’t have ended up kidnapped herself!

"You..."

Gu Yan’s face darkened as her words faltered, stifled by Lin Qian’s rebuke.

She had simply grown impatient while waiting for her car. Lin Yi had offered a ride, and she assumed his interest stemmed from her beauty. There was no way she could have expected such sinister intentions.

"Enough with the excuses! Hurry up and think of a plan. Before Lin Yi comes back, let’s figure out how to escape."

Lin Qian couldn’t be bothered to argue further. Spotting a sharp blade-like object nearby, her eyes lit up. "I see a blade over there. Move; let’s shift toward it."

"Ugh, can you slow down a bit? My hands and feet are killing me!"

Gu Yan snapped at Lin Qian, who retorted with exasperation, "Even if you’re uncomfortable, endure it! Or do you want to wait here and die?"

"You’re the one who wants to die!"

Gu Yan fired back, her voice trembling as the cold wind bit into her.

She anxiously scanned the surroundings, her face pale with dread. "Lin Qian, do you think Lin Yi’s insane? I didn’t do anything to him, so why kidnap me? Does he want a ransom? Has he really gone down such a lawless path after being pushed out by his brother? But why target me of all people?"

Exactly.

Why had Lin Yi abducted Gu Yan?

Lin Qian was equally puzzled, her thoughts swirling. Just as she edged toward the blade, Lin Yi’s sinister voice rang out.

"Why target you? Because you’re the heiress of the Gu Family, daughter of Su Fen and Gu Pinan!"

Lin Yi had appeared!

Lin Qian’s lips pressed into a hard line as she looked up at him.

The man wore dark, casual clothes. His hair was unruly from the wind, his face gaunt compared to before. His gaze toward Lin Qian and Gu Yan was filled with shadowy malice, cold and chilling.

In his hand was a hunting rifle with its looming black barrel, an intimidating sight to behold.

"Lin... Lin Yi, is it money you want? As long as you release me, my parents will surely give you the money."

Upon hearing Lin Yi mention her status as the Gu Family heiress, Gu Yan immediately assumed he wanted a ransom, hastily offering reassurance.

Back-to-back with her, Lin Qian analyzed Lin Yi’s seemingly deranged demeanor and had a gut feeling he wasn’t after money.

Sure enough, as soon as Gu Yan finished speaking, Lin Yi burst into crazed laughter. "Ha! Money? Sure! Get your parents to hand over the Gu Group to me, and I’ll let you go!"

He wanted the Gu Group?

Such outrageous demands were obviously impossible.

So this wasn’t about money—then it had to be revenge?

But why would Lin Yi have a vendetta against the Gu Family?

Lin Qian’s mind raced while Gu Yan struggled to piece together the puzzle. She stammered, "Lin... Lin Yi, you want the Gu Group? Why? As far as I know, our family hasn’t done anything to you..."

Upon hearing Gu Yan’s words, Lin Yi’s cold gaze shifted, a flicker of madness flashing through his eyes.

He took a step forward, grabbing Gu Yan’s collar and dragging her toward the edge.

"The Gu Family hasn’t wronged me? It’s because of your wonderful mother that my entire life is ruined, and you dare say your family hasn’t wronged me?"

By now, the three were teetering dangerously close to the edge of the building.

With Lin Yi’s forceful tug, Gu Yan was pulled perilously to the side, barely inches away from falling off.

At over ten stories high, a fall would reduce someone to pulp upon impact!

Gu Yan screamed in terror, her panic-stricken cries piercing the air, while Lin Qian’s face turned ashen. Even though fear gripped her heart, she bit her lip fiercely, refusing to let out a single sound.
