Chapter 227: Chapter 227: I Just Like the Trinkets Lin Fancies
Lin Qian had just finished picking out a few decorative items and was thanking the shop owner with a smile.
A casual glance revealed President Chu staring at her.
His upturned peach blossom eyes sparkled brilliantly under the light.
Lin Qian quickly averted her gaze and pretended to be nonchalant, "President Chu, I’ve already bought the decorations for the venue. Do you think we need to buy anything else?"
He was her boss, no need to overthink it!
At her words, Chu Yelin chuckled lightly, "You’re the manager, you decide."
"Then we should head back; I think it’s enough." Lin Qian spoke and turned to leave.
"Wait a second."
Chu Yelin called out to Lin Qian.
She turned around just in time to see Chu Yelin extending a small ornament towards her.
"I noticed you seemed quite interested in a few ornaments earlier, so I got this one for you. Here, take it."
An ornament bought by President Chu?
Lin Qian was stunned and quickly waved her hands, "No need, President Chu, I was just looking."
"You don’t like it? Seems I misunderstood, then I’ll just throw it away."
Chu Yelin pretended he was going to discard the ornament.
Lin Qian hastened to stop him, "Don’t do that."
"I thought you didn’t like it?"
"It’s already bought, would be such a waste to throw it away!"
Lin Qian eagerly took the ornament into her hand, glanced at Chu Yelin, and gave a dry laugh, "Thanks."
"Why the courtesy? It’s not worth much."
Chu Yelin pocketed his hands, watching Lin Qian as she lowered her eyes to examine the small ornament; a trace of joy flickered in his eyes.
Could it be that giving someone a gift could also bring happiness to oneself?
From a distance, a handsome man and beautiful woman were approaching.
Their distinguished air stood out even in the bustling department store.
The woman was selecting ornaments while the man stood by her side, hands in pockets, disinterestedly accompanying her.
They were none other than Nangong Li and Yin Qinglan.
Yin Qinglan’s studio had just opened, and she was here to pick out some small trinkets for decoration.
Nangong Li, by her side, his charming peach blossom eyes catching sight of Lin Qian and President Chu from a distance, narrowed his eyes involuntarily.
President Chu again?
What did he just see?
What is this man with ulterior motives giving to Lin Qian?
"Li, does this ornament look good?"
Yin Qinglan held up a small ornament to ask.
"Ah? Qinglan, wait a moment, we have bumped into someone we know."
Nangong Li put down the ornament in Yin Qinglan’s hand, took her by the waist, and walked towards Lin Qian.
At that moment, not far from them, Lin Qian was about to put the small ornament into her bag when suddenly a slender hand reached out and snatched it away.
"Hey..."
Lin Qian was startled and was about to speak, but upon recognizing Nangong Li and Yin Qinglan, she swallowed her intended words.
"Mr. Li, Qinglan, it’s you guys!"
She felt guilty!
An inexplicable guilt!
What were the odds that she and President Chu would go out shopping and be seen by Yin Moran’s friend and sister?
They better not go back and snitch!
"Lin, what a coincidence to run into you while buying something. Are you shopping for trinkets? This little thing looks nice; how about you give it to me?"
Nangong Li toyed with the ornament in his hand, a mischievous smile playing at the corner of his mouth.
"Ah? You want this?"
Lin Qian pointed at the trinket in his hand, completely taken aback.
Chu Yelin, standing to the side, recognized Nangong Li and instantly scowled upon hearing his shameless words.
"Mr. Li, a true gentleman doesn’t take what others love. This trinket is something girls fancy; just return it quickly. You, Nangong Li, have plenty of money—what can’t you buy?"
Was Nangong Li doing this on purpose?
He saw that this trinket was one he gave to Lin Qian, so was that why he deliberately asked Lin Qian for it?
"Yo, if it isn’t President Chu! What a pleasure to see you! Lin has great taste; I like the little things she fancies, so this trinket is mine now. Lin, you don’t mind, do you? Of course, even if you do, I won’t be giving it back."
Nangong Li winked at Lin Qian with an annoyingly smug expression.
Lin Qian forced a dry laugh, speechless.
She wasn’t stupid; Nangong Li was acting this way only because he saw that the trinket was given to her by Chu Yelin.
He was defending his brother’s territory.
"Um, Qinglan, Mr. Li, you’re here to shop, right? I’ve just finished buying the decorations needed for the customer appreciation event on Saturday night. I need to get back to work, so I won’t stay any longer."
She had to tell them that her coming out with Chu Yelin to shop was work-related.
They mustn’t get the wrong idea.
"Fine, you go on with your business!"
Nangong Li, hands in his pockets, looked at Lin Qian with a meaningful smile, "But let me kindly remind you, Lin, Old Yin is a jealous man. He turns over the vinegar pot at the slightest hint of something off. For the sake of your harmonious life, you... should be careful and try not to provoke him."
Hearing this, Lin Qian pursed her lips, gave a forced smile in response, then greeted Yin Qinglan and hurried away.
The vinegar pot was already overturned.
She was feeling annoyed!
Behind her, Chu Yelin’s handsome face darkened as he cast a cold glance at Nangong Li, "Mr. Li, you really like to meddle."
Nangong Li had ruined the good atmosphere.
He truly was Yin Moran’s good brother!
"Ha ha, thanks for the compliment, President Chu!" Nangong Li laughed schemingly, but his eyes weren’t smiling.
Chu Yelin let out a cold snort and, without another word, turned and walked away briskly.
Once everyone had left, the smile on Nangong Li’s face faded.
He glanced at the small ornament in his hand, snorted dismissively, and tossed it to the shop owner.
"Here, it’s new. Sell it."
"Wow! Really? Thank you, boss!"
"Don’t mention it! It wasn’t me who bought it."
Nangong Li slung an arm around Yin Qinglan’s slender waist and turned to walk back.
Yin Qinglan, still slightly dazed, laughed, "Li, what was that all about just now?"
She hadn’t seen Chu Yelin give the trinket to Lin Qian and felt Nangong Li’s actions and his hostility towards Chu Yelin were very strange.
"Ah, for the sake of your good brother, I’m really going out of my way here."
Nangong Li halted, took out his phone, and dialed Yin Moran’s number.
"Don’t rush, let me first give your brother a pep talk, then I’ll tell you about what happened before."
That Chu Yelin, always hungrily eyeing his brother’s girl—it was about time his brother took it seriously and married his future wife sooner rather than later!
Nangong Li called Yin Moran’s phone.
The phone connected—his friend’s customary cold voice answered.
"What is it?"
Hmm?
Was his old friend’s tone even colder today?
Had he not seen the caller ID and realized it was his good brother calling?
Nangong Li narrowed his eyes, "Old Yin, you in a bad mood?"
"State your business, otherwise, I’m hanging up."
"Hey, wait a minute."
There was definitely something wrong!
Nangong Li hadn’t yet guessed what was troubling Yin Moran, but he wondered if telling him about Chu Yelin and Lin Qian shopping together would make his mood even worse.
Should he tell him now?
