Chapter 200 Untouchable Sorrow

Chapter 200: Chapter 200 Untouchable Sorrow

Looking at Yin Moran silently polishing off more than half a bottle of foreign liquor, Nangong Li felt both heartache and urgency.

He snatched the bottle away, "Hey, hey, can’t you stop sulking and talk to me? I’m not a mind reader; I can’t help you if I don’t know what happened."

What on earth had happened?

His mood was all wrong.

Yin Moran’s face was flushed red, and his eyes were a blurred, bloodshot crimson.

He tugged at his collar and reached out to Nangong Li.

"Want more drink?"

Nangong Li resignedly said, "Fine, I’ll pour for you, but you have to tell me what’s wrong."

"I’m fine. Just thinking about the past."

Yin Moran stared into the void, his gaze foggy.

"Thinking about the past? What about?"

As Nangong Li poured a glass, he glanced at Yin Moran. Their many years of tacit understanding made him slightly aware of the situation.

He ventured a guess, "Are you... thinking about Qiao Xixian?"

Yin Moran did not respond, only gripped the glass tighter, and once again downed the drink in one gulp.

"Hey, you..."

Nangong Li watched as Yin Moran took hold of the bottle again, not attempting to dissuade him anymore.

For all these years, only Qiao Xiya could make him this depressed.

But why would he suddenly think of Qiao Xixian?

"Old Yin, don’t think too much about the past. Is Lin Qian done with her dinner yet?"

"No, she’s still in the private room discussing business with Chu Yelin."

Yin Moran’s voice was hoarse as he took out a cigarette from its case and placed it between his lips, his slender fingers reaching for a lighter to ignite the fire.

"Discussing business with Chu Yelin? Old Yin, don’t you find this Chu Yelin looks a bit familiar? I always feel like I’ve seen him somewhere. Where was it?"

Nangong Li pondered, stroking his chin.

In a flash of insight, he suddenly remembered.

"Oh, I remember now! The Adventurers’ Club! I’ve seen him at the Adventurers’ Club."

The Adventurers’ Club!

That was where he and Qiao Xixian had met!

Yin Moran’s hand, lighting the cigarette, paused as he watched the flame flicker and the thin smoke blur his handsome face.

Biting the cigarette at the edge of his mouth, he took a deep drag, exhaled a ring of smoke, and leaned lazily against the back of the sofa, his deep eyes hazy, "No wonder he mentioned a marriage proposal needing to be unique. Back then, he probably also tried paragliding."

"Hmm? A marriage proposal needing to be unique? Old Yin, what do you mean?"

Nangong Li also fetched a cigarette, his peach blossom eyes twinkling faintly, "Did you propose to Lin Qian?"

"Not really."

Yin Moran flicked the ash away and briefly described what had happened at the table.

He was caught off guard when someone suddenly mentioned paragliding, causing his emotions to spiral out of control.

It was the heaviest memory from before he was thirty, one that he couldn’t control.

"From what I hear, it sounds like this Chu Yelin mentioned it on purpose?"

Having heard the story, Nangong Li mused, "Was he deliberately picking at your wounds? Could it be that he was an admirer of Qiao Xixian? This isn’t good; I need to thoroughly check out this guy."

An admirer of Qiao Xixian?

Wasn’t he an admirer of Lin Qian?

Yin Moran pinched the bridge of his tired nose, took another deep inhale from the cigarette, and stubbed out the butt.

Seeing Yin Moran’s weary and sorrowful expression, Nangong Li tried to console him, "Old Yin, let the past be the past. I know Qiao Xixian’s death was a huge blow to you, but it was an accident, not your fault. You can’t carry this burden all your life."

"Now, there’s another good woman by your side. So, you should perk up, win her over, and not let the past tie you down. Just drink to your heart’s content today, and turn the page on the past tomorrow, okay?"

His first love had died just like that, and he knew the incident was buried deep in his heart, a wound untouchable.

He understood.

But one must always move forward.

He hoped that with a warm Lin Qian by his side, he would slowly forget the pain of the past.

"It’s not my fault? How could it not be my fault?"

Yin Moran let out a scorn of laughter, the blood-red in his eyes once again diffusing, "If it weren’t for my so-called romantic gesture making her insist on waiting for me at Maya Mountain, would she have had the accident? It’s all my fault, my sin is deep!"

Such a bright girl lost her life because of his mistake, and he truly regretted it immensely.

Yin Moran lifted the bottle, closed his eyes, and poured the liquor down his throat without restraint.

"Enough, Old Yin, if you’re going to say that, then I’m responsible too. It was my crappy idea after all! If you need to blame someone, blame me."

Nangong Li’s expression grew uncharacteristically somber, attempting to snatch the bottle from Yin Moran, only to see that it was already empty.

Feeling a tightness in his chest, he stood up, "I’m going to see if Lin Qian has come out yet."

Yin Moran didn’t speak, but as soon as Nangong Li left, he tossed the empty bottle onto the ground.

His chest heaved as he stood and staggered to the liquor cabinet, drunkenly grabbing another bottle.

He blamed no one but himself!

Outside, Nangong Li stood in front of the railing, looking down at the lively dance floor, loosening his collar button, and letting out a deep breath.

Thinking about that unpleasant past, he kicked the railing in front of him fiercely.

Damn it, who’s got nothing better to do than to dredge up Old Yin’s painful memories?

Just when Old Yin was nearly healed because of Lin Qian’s presence, this had to happen.

President Chu!

Very well!

He would remember this!

Nangong Li narrowed his peach blossom eyes and exhaled deeply.

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the door to the private room opening.

Several employees came out one after another.

Lin Qian was among them.

At this moment, she was being gently supported by Chu Yelin as she walked out.

Nangong Li squinted his eyes and a cold smirk appeared on his lips.

Are you done with your official business?

This Chu Yelin is no good bird!

Nangong Li walked up to them in his ruffian style, a smile curling on his lips, "Yo, Lin, you’re finally out! I was about to barge in there if you didn’t show up soon."

After speaking, he pulled Lin Qian away from Chu Yelin’s embrace.

Lin Qian, having had some drinks, was a bit tipsy and slow to respond, looking at Nangong Li, "Mr. Li? Were you waiting for me?"

"Yeah! It’s Old Yin’s order, I must make sure you get home safely. I’ve been standing out here for half an hour already."

Nangong Li raised his chin, staring at Chu Yelin with a sneering smile.

"I can take a cab back by myself."

Lin Qian refused, but Nangong Li took her by the arm and started walking out without further ado.

"How can that be okay? If I don’t get you home safely, wouldn’t Old Yin have my head? Let’s go."

While saying this, Nangong Li looked towards Chu Yelin with a triumphantly wicked smirk, "President Chu, about tonight’s bill, Old Yin said he’ll cover it for his girlfriend. Everyone, if there’s anything else you want to eat or do, go ahead and enjoy!"

Old Yin ah, once sober, you’d better thank me, your good brother, for saving your face in front of your girlfriend’s colleagues, huh!

"Wow, thanks to Mr. Li and Mr. Yin for their generous hospitality."

"Let’s go, let’s go dance and sing!"

The employees were excitedly looking for their next activity.

The smile on Chu Yelin’s lips grew colder as his gaze followed the two figures ahead, letting out a derisive snort as he strode away.
