Chapter 147: Is This How You Keep Your Distance from Him?

Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Is This How You Keep Your Distance from Him?

The man’s breath was still clean and biting, carrying an inherent oppressiveness that made it impossible to take him lightly.

He had his hands braced on either side of her, as if he was enclosing her in his arms, his posture extremely aggressive.

Before her was the man’s warm touch, tinged with a dangerously fiery aura, behind her was the icy sensation of the washbasin.

The cold and the heat caused her to shiver slightly.

Lin Qian’s hands pressed against Yin Moran’s chest, her almond-shaped eyes darting around, afraid to meet his gaze.

"You... could you stand properly, and not be so close, okay?"

It made her brain go blank, having no idea what to say.

"Afraid to look at me? Feeling guilty? So you really want to draw a clear line between us, huh?"

The man’s slender fingers pinched her delicate chin, his voice low and seductive, yet laced with a dangerously interrogative undertone.

Lin Qian’s heart pounded furiously, feeling as if the temperature on her face was hot enough to cook an egg.

She pulled his hand away, her eyes shiny with moisture, "No, I’m not related to you by blood or marriage; there’s no reason for me to keep living at your house, right?"

Not related?

Yin Moran grabbed her wrist, his dark eyes stormy, "Lin Qian, do you really not understand what I’m feeling, or are you doing this on purpose? Are you still thinking about Su Yu’an, hoping to rekindle things with him?"

A dull pain came from her wrist, where Qiao Xiya had splashed boiling water.

Lin Qian hissed, frowning slightly, "Yin Moran, let go, you’re hurting me."

"Does it hurt? Good! Otherwise, you’d never learn."

Yin Moran was angry and increased the pressure on her wrist: "What did you tell me? That you’d keep your distance from Su Yu’an! Is this how you keep your distance? Letting him into your house, accompanying him to the bar to drink, taking care of him with concern and tenderness? Lin Qian, are you playing me?"

The man’s tone was brimming with jealousy, making Lin Qian’s hand hurt even more.

"Yin Moran, don’t slander me. Su Yu’an and I are clean; we’re just friends. Can’t friends even keep in touch? Besides, I have nothing to do with you, how can I be playing you?"

Nothing to do with him?

"Lin Qian, I thought I made myself very clear lately, I’ve been humble enough, don’t you really want to be Candy’s mother at all?"

The man’s voice was heavy with anger, like a lofty act of charity.

The dull pain in her hand coupled with the ache in her heart.

Lin Qian forcefully broke free from his grasp, smiling, "Yin Moran, do you like me? You want me to be Candy’s mommy because she needs a woman she likes to be her mother, not because you like me, right? I’m sorry, although my status is low, I am still a woman with self-respect, and I will not marry a man who doesn’t love me."

Did he love her?

The sudden question caught Yin Moran off guard, leaving him silent as he looked at Lin Qian’s delicate face.

Her intuition became clear from his reaction.

Even though she had an answer, her heart still twinged with pain.

Trying to steady herself, Lin Qian stroked the sore wrist, casting her eyes downward, "Mr. Yin, rest assured, I’ve said I would take care of Candy when you are not available, and would love her as my own daughter, and I will do just that."

So their relationship should be defined as just friends.

Lin Qian pursed her lips and tried to walk past Yin Moran.

"Wait."

The man’s magnetic voice came from behind her. Lin Qian’s heart skipped a beat; she stopped in her tracks, unaccountably hoping for something.

His breath drew closer, grabbing her wrist again, eyeing the red mark on her skin, "How did you get this injury?"

So he stopped her just to ask about that?

She felt an inexplicable sense of loss.

What was she feeling disappointed about?

What did she think he was going to say to her?

Lin Qian mockingly thought to herself, her eyes glistening as she looked at him, "If it isn’t because your rumored girlfriend thinks there’s something between us, she wouldn’t have been targeting me all this time. Mr. Yin, it seems I’d better keep my distance from you in the future, to avoid being seen as a thorn in someone’s side."

She spoke casually and with levity, only to be met with a cold glance from the man.

"What exactly happened?"

"I don’t want to talk about it!"

Lin Qian jerked her hand free and took a big step back, "Yin Moran, I’m going back now. Yu’an and Tong are waiting for me."

Her words were light and seemingly indifferent.

Yin Moran’s temples throbbed, his handsome face clouded over with gloom.

Yu’an, she called so affectionately.

But she calls him by his full name.

Was she doing it on purpose?

To provoke him?

Fine!

Lin Qian returned to the hall, did not see Fang Tong and Su Yu’an, and guessed they probably went back to the private room Su Yu’an had booked.

Clenching her lips, Lin Qian looked towards Nangong Li and Yin Qinglan, "Mr. Li, Qinglan, thank you for your hospitality. I have work tomorrow, so I’ll just say goodbye to Yu’an and Tong and be on my way."

"Leaving already? Where’s Old Yin? Have Old Yin escort you."

"No need, it’s out of the way."

Lin Qian smiled at Nangong Li, nodded slightly at Yin Qinglan, and swiftly turned to leave.

She acted as if she was avoiding someone.

Nangong Li stroked his chin thoughtfully as he watched Yin Moran’s approach.

"Old Yin, not reconciled with Lin yet? Was it an empty boast?"

Clearly, the person Lin Qian had been avoiding was Yin Moran.

Nangong Li wondered to himself why Lin Qian was so reluctant to accept Yin Moran.

Yin Moran’s face was cold as he took the glass of wine Yin Qinglan handed him and downed it in one gulp.

"Hey, don’t be so reticent! Come on, at least let us know why Lin refuses your affections, right?"

It’s like the emperor is not in a hurry but his eunuchs are.

Nangong Li glared at the silent Yin Moran, pressing for an answer.

Yin Moran fixed his gaze on the glass in his hand and eventually said, "She said, she wouldn’t marry a man who doesn’t love her."

Was she asking him to talk about love?

He couldn’t respond.

Hearing such an answer, Nangong Li opened his mouth but, unusually, said nothing.

He knew that the world inside Yin Moran’s heart was quite complex.

"Lin Qian is an emotional girl."

Yin Qinglan looked at Yin Moran, fingers curling slightly, "Brother, good girls are not greedy for vanity. They may not want luxury or jewels, but they will make sure their partner is a man who truly loves them, with whom they can walk hand in hand for the rest of their lives. Brother, why don’t you try falling in love with her?"

This was her beloved brother, and she sincerely hoped he could move on from the shadows of his past and find his own happiness.

There was a sincere glow in Yin Qinglan’s eyes, and a bright flicker passed through Nangong Li’s amorous gaze.

He laughed heartily, "Old Yin, Qinglan’s right. This Lin is truly a woman of character; I think she’s well matched with you. Since she wants love, then give it to her! After all, it’s not like you don’t have feelings for her. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have gone up on stage today to compete with Su Yu’an, right?"

As the two of them went back and forth, Yin Moran’s brows furrowed slightly, his deep eyes alternately flickering and settling.

Did he really have feelings for her?

Should he try to fall in love with her?
