Chapter 1700: Chapter 1700: Battle of the Quicksand
The Time Wand, also known as the Wand of Flowing Sands, has a famous historical battle associated with it.
Thousands of years ago, an ancient god awakened. The Angela Worm Tribe, which he controlled, had become incredibly prosperous after long periods of recuperation.
To break the seal, the ancient god needed more precious resources, thus the invasion by the Worm Tribe began.
In Silithus, the council led by Cenarius responsible for monitoring the Worm Tribe’s movements discovered their intentions.
The Ancient Elves took this intelligence seriously. As creatures mutated from trolls, although they are called elves now,
they retained a legacy of history concerning trolls. They deeply understood the tremendous price trolls once paid in their struggle against the Worm Tribe for world domination, and no one knew better than they about the terror and horror of the Worm Tribe.
Therefore, when it was confirmed that the Angela Worm Tribe intended to ravage the world again, the Ancient Elves decisively dispatched their army.
Among the Ancient Elves, the highest authority was naturally held by the High Priestess of the Moon, Priestess Tyrande.
And the one who guided Druid Malfurion, the High Priestess’s husband, was asleep in the Dream, assisting the Green Dragons in managing the Dreamland World and expelling nightmares.
The third most important figure among the Ancient Elves was Fandral Staghelm, who led the Ancient Elf navy and some male Ancient Elf troops.
This leader was also a powerful figure who rose heroically during the ancient war, carrying the weight of the task to eradicate the Worm Tribe entirely.
He led the elite Ancient Elves and the United Army to Silithus to engage in a fierce battle against the Angela Worm Tribe.
Fandral was a wise and decisive commander. Despite the tense warfare, there was neither significant harm nor defeat, and he managed to suppress the Worm Tribe’s intention to rush out of Silithus.
Such arduous combat continued for a long time, and the Worm Tribe remained unable to break through the army.
Once, Fandral’s son fell victim to a conspiracy, and the Worm Tribe killed him in front of Fandral.
This was the pride of Fandral’s family—the future leader of the Ancient Elves. He had always nurtured his son in this way.
His thoughts were simple: although he could not compare in personal ability or influence with the High Priestess and Malfurion, he couldn’t become the number one leader of the Ancient Elves.
But he believed his son could, and his son was indeed exceptional. Someday, he would become the highest ruler of the Ancient Elves, leading them to endless glory, and the Staghelm family would attain the splendor akin to the Sunstrider family.
But his son, all his pride and hope, was killed before his eyes. This was not just the murder of his son—this shattered his expectations and hopes for the latter half of his life.
Fandral became mad, lost his sense of reason, transformed from original conservative strategies into aggressive ones.
However, the Worm Tribe was too numerous and seemed tireless. Soon, the Ancient Elves and the United Army were retreating rapidly.
Moreover, the Worm Tribe broke through the defenses and wreaked havoc on the outside world.
Finally, the flames of war spread to the territory of the Bronze Dragons—the Chrono Cave.
The arrogant Angela Worm Tribe began attacking the Bronze Dragons’ territory without any hesitation, starting a war.
The Dragon Clan, who hardly wished to get involved in mortal conflicts, had no choice but to engage the Worm Tribe in battle.
Though the Bronze Dragon Legion was immensely powerful, the Worm Tribe was too numerous, and propagated too swiftly. Despite being part of the Dragon Clan, the Bronze Dragons tired as well,
and they could not deploy too many troops as they had even more crucial tasks—monitoring the timeline to prevent disturbances, which led to a series of battles and casualties among the Bronze Dragons.
Hence, the Bronze Dragon King had no choice but to seek reinforcement from the other three Dragon Kings.
Subsequently, each of the other three Dragon Kings sent a prince with part of their Dragon Legion to support the Bronze Dragons.
Under the attack of the four-color Dragon army, the race was finally suppressed back into Silithus. Although most races were insignificant to the Dragon Clan, their numbers were overwhelming, with no end in sight even after a hundred years of killing.
The Dragon United Army and Ancient Elf United Army were worn out; both sides finally united again, and the Dragons lowered their arrogance, reuniting with mortal lives.
The joint forces finally suppressed the Worm Tribe, confining them to the southern part of Silithus—right in the Worm Tribe’s lair.
The battle reached a fever pitch, with dragons constantly losing companions.
They realized if they did not seal these Worm Tribes soon, they would all perish from exhaustion without exterminating them. Their only option was to think of ways to temporarily seal these Worm Tribes and deal with them later.
Thus, the Ancient Elves and Dragons used the mass casualties and congealed sands to form a wall of flowing sands, and all the fallen dragons’ corpses fused into a wand named the Time Wand or Wand of Flowing Sands.
The wall of flowing sands was not enough; it needed to be activated internally with the wand to initiate the barrier, truly sealing the Angela Worm Tribe.
The three princes, regardless of their survival, resolutely stayed within, activating the seal while the Wand of Flowing Sands was broken into fragments and sent to the outside world.
The war was subdued, and the ancient god’s plot was temporarily frustrated.
Initially, the Ancient Elf United Army disliked the Dragon Legions for their arrogance, but in this moment, they gained a new understanding of the definition of Guardians.
Later, the legend of the Wand of Flowing Sands almost disappeared, spread only among a few.
Humans, Dwarves, and Gnomes, newly emerged races within the last few thousand years, knew nothing of this matter. Orcs and Trolls in the Dark Camp were even more unaware, leading to a looming crisis.
Li Yao knew that once most players reached the maximum level, the first open endgame raid would be Angela.
Although he knew about other fragments, the process was too complicated and nuanced, something he didn’t have the time for. Only this fragment was the simplest and most straightforward, obtainable with sufficient strength.
With a fast fragment, Li Yao could claim a share in the upcoming raid, though there was still time before Angela’s opening, as so far only he had reached the maximum level.
"Are you worried about the offspring of Malygos?" the Black Dragon Queen asked, seeing the Blue Dragon Queen gazing silently at the distant ruins.
"Such fine children, when I met them years ago they were still little ones, and now, they can shoulder responsibilities on their own. Time flies; in my ten thousand years of slumber, so much has happened."
The Blue Dragon Queen said wistfully. Although the Blue Dragon Prince was not her biological child, he was almost like one to her, and it was impossible not to worry. But this had been long overdue, isolated and without aid; whatever had happened, had already transpired.
It wasn’t overwhelmingly sad, just a sense of inexplicable melancholy, although reborn, she was no longer her former self.
"I can understand, how the Black Dragon nearly perished overnight. The past cannot be changed, even Nozdormu, the Time Guardian, cannot alter fate, much less us." The Black Dragon Queen regained composure: "We should assist our master in planning how to seize this location...."
