Chapter 1566: Chapter 1566: The Contest
The spectators were in an uproar at the sight, overwhelmed by how brutal the scene was. Li Yao hadn’t retreated earlier because he was afraid—he simply found killing them too slow.
All this time, he had been standing by the sidelines. It wasn’t to look for an opening but to mobilize the air force.
This is what a true one-hit kill looks like.
In an instant, the players and soldiers who had surrounded the Faceless Apostle were all decapitated, leaving only a single true expert.
However, seeing the air force gradually fading into the shadows, the remaining individuals felt a deep chill within their hearts.
Li Yao was too ruthless. When he acted, it was like thunder crashing down. His decisiveness left no room for hesitation, nor did he care about any ensuing repercussions.
KY, the commentator for Huaxia, who had been holding back his words this whole time, now spoke calmly, "Didn’t I say Prairie Fire wouldn’t just allow himself to be bullied? You all were just saying earlier that no matter how impressive Prairie Fire was, he was still just one man. That against the pressure of so many high-level players from guilds, he had already caved. Is this what you call caving?"
The commentators from the other districts looked at the exceedingly brutal scene, exchanging awkward glances. What else could they say? What was left to be said?
Accuse Prairie Fire of overstepping? What a joke. It was Prairie Fire who discovered the boss’s weak point; it was Prairie Fire who had been genuinely holding the boss in check this whole time.
And the result? He was ostracized and ridiculed. Fine, but they still failed to take down the boss. On the contrary, the boss recovered to its peak condition.
Blame him for being ruthless? Sure, but they too couldn’t stomach it. They wanted to kill Li Yao, but they simply weren’t confident enough to do so. With the Green Dragon Princess by his side, combined with Prairie Fire’s own strength, taking him down would only be even harder.
They had witnessed Li Yao’s unstoppable tactics in the aerial battle. No one could contend with him in the sky, and now, after landing, they finally mustered some courage.
They didn’t just want to stop Prairie Fire from killing the Faceless Apostle. They wanted to bar him from participating in the rest of the fight altogether. And for what? To secure the first-kill title using such despicable means.
Now that the tables had abruptly turned, no one had the face left to continue disputing.
"I’m claiming this boss. Does anyone have a problem with that?" Li Yao said indifferently.
Of course, there were objections—big ones in fact—but no one dared voice them.
Who the hell knew if there were invisible assassins lurking nearby? The survivors were all unwilling but, faced with the looming threat of countless predatory attackers, they had no choice but to leave unwillingly.
Otherwise, they’d face heavy retaliation. Even if they had invincibility skills, those skills couldn’t stay active forever.
What made things worse was that Starfire’s legion wasn’t far from here. Even though their invincible battle formation centered around the Commanding Flag wouldn’t directly threaten Li Yao, it made things far more complicated.
On top of that, they couldn’t exactly deploy an army to attack Starfire. The earlier scenario had already infuriated their faction leaders. If they caused further trouble, they’d be punished by the faction itself before Starfire even had to retaliate.
"Looks like no one’s left, then." Li Yao smiled faintly. "Princess, I’ll be needing your assistance as I take down this Faceless Apostle."
"Now that the flies have been swatted away, it’s time to end this battle." The Green Dragon Princess waved her hand, releasing streams of green light that enveloped Li Yao and the shadows around him, applying multiple attack buffs to both him and his illusions.
That’s right—under the amplification from the Green Dragon Princess and the factional buffs, the illusions Li Yao could summon using the Cloak now numbered nine. The nine illusionary clones and Li Yao looked identical. Even the Green Dragon Princess couldn’t distinguish which one was the real Li Yao, let alone the Faceless Apostle.
All ten versions of Li Yao raised their Star Bows, gripping them as they nocked their arrows. They swiftly spread out, launching an all-out siege against the Faceless Apostle.
Having rested and recovered, Li Yao’s spiritual power was now at its peak. He controlled all ten of his forms simultaneously, as though it were second nature.
The Faceless Apostle, unable to discern the real Li Yao among the nine nearly indistinguishable clones, was bombarded by an unrelenting rain of arrows.
The power and speed of the arrows, as well as the skills behind them, were indistinguishable. There was no way to tell which ones were fired by the real Li Yao.
Adding to this, Li Yao continuously rotated his position with the illusions, leaving the Faceless Apostle completely unable to tell them apart.
As a result, under the cover of multiple illusions’ attacks, Li Yao’s real arrows often struck the Faceless Apostle’s weak points.
Since all ten entities were under Li Yao’s flawless control, their coordination was seamless. The Faceless Apostle had no idea which to pursue, and now that there were no players left to help it replenish its health, the Faceless Apostle was at a complete loss.
Under the Green Dragon Princess’s buffs, Li Yao unleashed a hurricane-like assault on the Faceless Apostle.
The Faceless Apostle’s mind was wracked with chaotic tremors and roars. If one’s spiritual power weren’t strong enough, just the psychological shock alone would make them falter and leave openings. However, Li Yao’s spiritual power had already reached the level of a True God—it was just lacking the nourishment of a Divine Grid and Divine Power.
The Faceless Apostle couldn’t possibly shake him. Moreover, Li Yao was the sole focus of the scene. With the aid of his Divine Eye, he could predict the boss’s attacks and skills just before they occurred.
Don’t underestimate those small moments of forewarning; they were precisely what allowed Li Yao to be prescient and secure his position as unbeatable.
No matter how absurdly strong the Faceless Apostle’s attacks were, they meant nothing if they couldn’t land.
Coupled with the Green Dragon Princess’s debuffs and restrictions, the Faceless Apostle made multiple attempts to take flight and escape or to dive into the crowd of players to drain their health. But Li Yao wasn’t one to let that happen. With his immense strength, the two of them worked together to completely suppress the Faceless Apostle.
When there were no weaknesses, such a standoff might have been meaningless. But knowing the Faceless Apostle’s weak point, Li Yao’s methods made it a straightforward task to quickly eliminate the boss.
In less than three minutes, the Faceless Apostle’s health had dropped below a third. Though it entered a berserk state, it was all in vain.
Li Yao’s attacks were too rapid. Even when the Faceless Apostle destroyed several of his clones, they were swiftly replenished. With no way to regain its health, it could do nothing but attack wildly, to no avail.
When the Faceless Apostle’s health finally reached zero, Li Yao surged toward the boss’s corpse.
All eyes on the battlefield focused on the boss’s body, as everyone knew this was yet another flashpoint for conflicts to erupt.
As soon as the boss fell, Li Yao’s figure flickered, lightning-fast, toward its corpse.
Seeing Li Yao charge in, the hidden rogues couldn’t hold back any longer. They all darted toward the boss; they might’ve lost out on military merit, but the loot was more than worth it.
The Green Dragon Princess exclaimed lightly, "Explode."
An ethereal green mist burst forth, spilling out softly over the battlefield. All the hiding rogues were exposed in an instant, their forms revealed in the haze. Within moments, dozens of rogues were corroded, their health rapidly draining.
Everyone’s eyes turned blood-red with greed. Now that their concealment had been compromised, they no longer had any reservations...
