MIGHT AS WELL BE OP -
Chapter 566 - 566: Blessing
Within a room, two figures could be seen lying fast asleep. The only sound that filled the space was the soft, steady rhythm of their breathing. They were Anthony and Vega.
They cuddled as they slept, with a duvet covering them as though they felt cold, or perhaps, as though the warmth they shared wasn't quite enough against the morning chill.
From the window, golden sun rays filtered through the half-drawn curtains and entered the room, gently casting a warm glow over their entwined bodies. It was as though the morning sun, jealous of their romantic embrace, had crept in to announce the arrival of a new day.
Anthony's eyes opened slowly as he stirred awake from his sleep. His blue eyes immediately caught sight of Vega, who was still fast asleep beside him, her breathing soft and peaceful. Gently lifting himself from the bed so as not to wake her, Anthony leaned forward and planted a soft morning kiss on her cheek before slipping out from under the covers.
He stood still for a few seconds, gazing at her sleeping form with a fond smile tugging at the corners of his lips. Then, with that smile still lingering, he stepped into the bathroom to freshen up and prepare for the day ahead.
After bathing and donning his Major-ranked military uniform, Anthony made his way into the kitchen. Over his crisp uniform, he wore a simple apron, a humorous contrast, but one that only made sense if you knew what he was about to do.
He was going to make Vega breakfast.
After a couple of minutes, Anthony had prepared a small but hearty meal and brought it back into the room. As he approached, he could already tell she was awake; her breathing had shifted, her body moved slightly. He had sensed it even before that, he always did.
"Good morning, Vee," Anthony said with a gentle voice as he placed the breakfast tray beside her on the bed.
"What's the occasion?" Vega asked with a smile as she gazed at the food on the plate. Her voice carried a mix of curiosity and affection.
"What occasion? Can't I cook for you?" Anthony replied playfully as he sat down with his own plate in hand.
"Well, this is the first time you're cooking for me, so it's got to be a special occasion!" Vega replied calmly, teasing him with her soft voice and her knowing eyes.
"If you want, I could cook for you every day. Even mana-infused dishes are within my reach," Anthony said with a wink, clearly enjoying the back-and-forth.
Vega simply shook her head and chose not to reply, opting instead to dig into the meal before her with calm appreciation. She had to admit, even though she rarely gave compliments easily, if Anthony ever decided to open a restaurant, he would put half the planet's chefs out of business without breaking a sweat.
"Well," Anthony began as he chewed thoughtfully, "I simply decided to cook because we'll be going on a mission soon. I might not have the time to make you breakfast when we're out on the battlefield."
"That's true," Vega nodded. "It seems you'll be receiving the mission details today."
Anthony simply nodded in agreement with her words.
"So," Vega continued with a raised brow and a slight smile, "do you think this mission will also end in something like an all-out war?"
"Are you calling me a trouble magnet?" Anthony asked with mock indignation.
He had already told her everything about what had happened at military base Alpha-6. Hell, he and Vega had even watched the war unfold in an illusion as if it were a movie date, Anthony showing her every detail, from the events at the Bleeding Hollow Zone all the way to the full-scale war that had broken out.
"Those are your words, not mine," Vega replied with a teasing smile.
Anthony shook his head with a sigh, deciding not to argue. Vega had always been extremely skilled at teasing him, and even more skilled at winning every verbal skirmish they had.
"So," Anthony asked as he rose to his feet, "how do you feel about finally getting to participate in a mission like this? At least here, you won't have to deal with weak demons and second-rate enemies."
He picked up both their plates and walked toward the kitchen, acting like a dutiful husband. But upon reaching the kitchen, he didn't clean the dishes manually. Instead, he used the Authority of Severance to sever the dirt from the plates, instantly rendering them spotless.
If anyone saw Anthony using a power that could practically destroy the universe just to clean dishes, they would probably pass out on the spot from sheer absurdity.
"Hooo… I'm already looking forward to it," Vega replied with a wide smile on her face.
"With this, I can finally show you and the others my abilities and power. And at least now, I can let loose after holding back for over a year," Vega continued, still smiling.
"I just hope you won't suddenly need saving," Anthony said as he returned from the kitchen, teasing again. "After all, in a lot of novels I've read, the main character always ends up suffering serious injuries trying to save his girlfriend."
"Hmph. I should be the one telling you that. In the female-lead novels I've read, it's the reverse. I hope you're not as weak as those men," Vega replied with a soft snort and narrowed eyes.
"Then I'll leave my safety in your hands, oh Divine Bow Empress," Anthony said with a grin as he walked back into the room with steady steps.
"I'm sorry, I don't protect weak men for free. Only children can have my services free of charge," Vega replied as she crossed her legs and folded her arms, adopting the air of someone negotiating a business deal.
"Hoo… A Divine Bow Empress who loves money more than justice and benevolence. Colour me surprised," Anthony replied with a soft chuckle.
"If you can't afford my appearance fees, just say so," Vega responded. "But if you ask nicely, who knows? I might protect you for free."
Her voice was sweet, her tone playful, and her expression, with those soft eyes and gentle smile, was the very epitome of the word cute.
Anthony smiled again and shook his head. He was more than used to Vega's attitude and playful personality, and truthfully, he loved every single bit of it.
He remembered back when he used to overthink the kind of girl his girlfriend might be, whether she would be a yandere, kuudere, dandere, or tsundere. He had mentally prepared for every possible personality type, just in case.
And then she turned out to be just... a normal, sweet, strong-willed woman.
'I just hope some foolish people don't think she's my weakness and try to kidnap or kill her,' Anthony thought to himself with a smile, silently praying to ??? on their behalf.
Of course, that's if Vega kills them before him, because if they fall into his hands... well, something are better left unsaid.
Anthony shook his head and rid himself of such dark thoughts. Having an overpowered girlfriend meant that, at the very least, he could fight without constantly looking over his shoulder to check on her.
And that alone was a blessing.
