Meteor Fall Master in the 'Starry Abyss' -
Chapter 687 - 300. Kaitai Interstellar Transport
Chapter 687: 300. Kaitai Interstellar Transport
It was as if a chill ran from the top of the man’s head down to his tailbone, riveting him to the spot as he stood there, dumbstruck.
"Dear passengers, welcome aboard Kaitai Interstellar Transportation. We are about to depart from Star Harbor, so please take your seats in the designated areas. This flight will be traveling along a warp path, and during the journey, you may experience bright lights, dizziness, murmuring, screeching, howling, and other such symptoms. Rest assured, these are all normal phenomena. If necessary, you can open the magic scroll located on the back of the seat in front of you for assistance with breathing and mental stability..."
Li Aozi spread open a travel magazine. This time, his journey to the Hunter’s gathering was indeed similar to a vacation; after all, the important items were loaded into the Autonomous Space-Time, and a small bag was all he needed to carry on his person.
The travel magazine had just introduced some information about the Star Transport Company, which included Kaitai Interstellar Transportation Co., Ltd., the company he was flying with this time.
This was a Star Transport Company from outside, with its parent company being a majority shareholder from the first-rate Galaxy Civilization. It didn’t have any particular advantages, but it was cheap, which attracted a number of passengers. It was previously introduced by the government of Baizhu Star, and this was Li Aozi’s first time aboard one of their ships.
As a member of the Narrative-Level Civilization, the Galaxy Civilization was a very arrogant one. The employees here all looked like they were from the Galaxy Species—their distinguishing feature was their length.
They were tall, with an average height nearing two meters thirty, with long faces, narrow eyes, and white nerve bundles that were equally long. As they had no custom of tying up their hair, it fell like a waterfall, reaching all the way down to their heels. Their pale golden skin which gave them a nobility akin to that of fairy spirits.
Of course, compared to the distinct porcelain-like skin of the truly Spirit Race, this skin fell quite short, and their depth of culture was not profound.
Li Aozi had operated within their civilization in his previous life. The Galaxy Civilization was a very young and high-profile civilization; they often possessed an indescribable arrogance, especially towards the fellow ’Empire of Heralds’ member civilizations, naturally feeling superior to them.
This was not surprising, given that for a long stretch of history, the Starfield of the Galaxy Civilization was a colony of the ’Empire of Heralds.’ As the Empire rose to Narrative-level, their status soared as well.
Although the Galaxy Civilization was part of the Commonwealth, they were not considered a part of the Narrative-Level Civilization and were more often seen as enforcers, pawns, and vassals.
The spaceship soon left the Star Harbor, and as it was an older model, the bumpiness of the take-off was very noticeable. Li Aozi didn’t mind and continued reading his book to pass the monotonous time.
After traveling for a while, Li Aozi almost knew the magazine by heart. Bored, he scrolled through his terminal. His Wealth Luck was exceptional—anything he invested in almost invariably led to profits. At first, he was thrilled, but it didn’t take long for him to grow tired of it.
Since he could make money just by laying back, and there was no need to worry about other matters for the time being, Li Aozi lacked the motivation to continue trading. He leaned back in his seat when he suddenly remembered the woman who had switched seats with him.
"The window seat might be a bit chilly; be sure to keep warm," he said.
Li Aozi called out to a flight attendant from the Galaxy Species:
"Hey, excuse me, could I get a blanket?"
The Galaxy person was standing leisurely in the aisle next to him.
However, after calling out several times with his translator on, she ignored him. Thinking it was a malfunction, Li Aozi was about to restart the device when he saw the Galaxy Species flight attendant walking towards him.
"Hello, I’d like a blanket..." Li Aozi began, only to find the attendant smiling sweetly at him before starting to converse with a Steel Elf with metallic skin:
"Good day, esteemed passenger, what can I do for you?"
Li Aozi was taken aback; he hadn’t even noticed the High Elf seated next to him.
After all, not every High Elf would deign to become a mercenary at Valkyrie Fortress. Most High Elves were either rich or noble, with a glorious history in their ancestry.
The young man quietly lifted up his hand, seemingly of a more introverted nature.
"Eaz iec ceram (Elvish language: I would like some ice cream)," he said.
It seemed the Steel Elf forgot to bring his translating device and could only gesture persistently:
"iec ceram, i-e-c c-e-r-a-m..."
The flight attendant had a translator hanging from her ear but still listened patiently to the description and promptly responded with a polite and gentle smile:
"No problem, I’ll go get one for you right away."
The flight attendant gestured reassuringly, then turned on her heel and walked away, her braid trailing down to her heel nearly hitting Li Aozi in the face.
"Hey!" Li Aozi immediately called out, "Miss, please give me a blanket."
His voice was loud, startling the nearby Steel Elf brother, forcing the flight attendant to glance at him. Seeing that Li Aozi looked much like an average person, with restrained aura and without any obvious features of a higher civilization species, she immediately lifted her chin and said dismissively:
"I’m sorry, what did you say?"
Li Aozi frowned but repeated:
"I’d like a blanket, it gets quite cold during the flight. Could you please get one for the lady in C-198? She’s with a child, and they need to keep warm."
"I’m sorry, I don’t understand."
The flight attendant shook her head, the translator on her ear swinging like a dog’s bell, its blue light flashing continuously, proving it was working properly.
Li Aozi glanced at her and repeated in Tanas language:
"Blanket."
"(In Empire language) Sorry, can you speak the language of the Narrative Civilization?"
The flight attendant rolled her eyes languidly as she spoke.
Li Aozi frowned. He hadn’t spoken the language of the Empire for a long time. After recalling the correct word, he said:
"(In Empire language) Please give me a ’carpet’."
"Pfft—"
The flight attendant immediately covered her stomach and burst out laughing.
"What are you laughing at?"
Li Aozi asked, baffled.
"(In Empire language) It’s ’blanket’—’carpet’ is what you lay on the ground. If you want a blanket, you should speak a language that the people of the Empire can understand."
The flight attendant chuckled as she said:
"(In Empire language) If you can’t say ’blanket’ in the language of the Empire, then you don’t deserve to get one."
"...You mean your translator can’t pick up my language?"
Li Aozi narrowed his eyes; he had deliberately used the Tanas language earlier, and her translator was clearly functioning normally.
The flight attendant looked innocent: "(In Empire language) Sorry, excuse me, what are you saying? My translator is malfunctioning."
This was deliberate obstruction.
He had labored diligently for the Empire for over two hundred years in his past life, yet here he was, on a budget Star Transport company flight, facing discrimination.
Upon hearing this, Li Aozi laughed, grabbed the nearby puzzled-looking Steel Elf brother, and said fluently in Elvish:
"Good day, son of the Iron Garden, this Star Transport company is really terrible, the ship’s code is probably a heap of crap. In the name of Queen Safirino, this flight attendant is nothing but a black raven from Ulyssa, full of malice. Her service attitude is as foul as a rotten corpse in the land of eternal rest, and she can’t even understand a few foreign languages."
