Chapter 668: 281. The End of the Vacation

"Burp—"

Xia Beiluo bit into a potato and quickly finished off the battle. While wiping her mouth, she took some napkins from the dining room and said with a curled lip:

"What good does it do to brood over this here? We need to start taking action!"

"What? Does the dropout have an idea?"

"I wasn’t expelled from school; no school wants me!"

Xia Beiluo chuckled, picked up her suitcase and guitar:

"I’m just saying, since you don’t want to reveal your past and you’re curious about your identity—why not just stop thinking about it."

Igor gave her a weird look:

"Oh?"

"I have a plan."

Xia Beiluo straightened her chest and said excitedly:

"You can influence others’ consciousness with music, right? That method could definitely make a lot of money! Whether it’s holding concerts or busking on the streets, it will surely attract people. Then, just casually advertise and launch some merchandise, we can definitely make a fortune!"

"And then?"

"After that, once I’ve made money, I’ll go to the school in The Church, and eventually enter the Bishop’s District of Ziluo Star—it’s the busiest, most mysterious, and oldest core zone of Ziluo Star. There must be lots of divine knowledge to inherit. Perhaps there might be something beyond the ’Mysterious’ Pathway."

Xia Beiluo said excitedly:

"This way, your goal could be realized, and my dream could become a reality—yay, it’s a win-win! Isn’t that great? Huh?"

Igor looked at her and simply asked:

"The idea is not bad, but why do you need to run away from Sulo City then?"

Xia Beiluo blinked then scratched her cheek:

"Uh—because of the big commotion you caused, I’m afraid of being caught by The Church..."

"Hmm, so you know that messing around like that would get The Church’s attention."

Igor leaned against the wall, teasingly said:

"The idea is nice, but the reality isn’t so optimistic—The Church controls everything, even deities can’t control them. Sometimes I wonder, if deities are omnipotent, why do they need believers? If they truly need to manage believers, why don’t they come themselves? If they really care about where believers belong, why let The Church manage them?"

"Well, textbooks explain that deities are very busy. They have to deal with monsters from the Star Realm while guarding against the resurgence of the five world-ending Demon Gods ’Destroyer,’ ’Sovereign,’ ’Fine Artistry,’ ’Raiding,’ and ’Redemption’..."

"Even so, don’t you think it sounds contradictory?"

Igor said mildly:

"If deities protect their people without seeking anything in return, it implies that to them, we are like pets or toys, providing emotional value."

"But the reality is, deities let The Church manage us in their stead, showing they don’t care about our actual feelings. To the deities, we might be some sort of resource waiting to be exploited."

"Hey, that kind of talk is too blasphemous!"

"Or what else?" Igor spread his hands: "If you were a deity, why would you do these thankless tasks? Saying you value your people, yet letting them manage themselves."

"Because, surely it’s because deities think differently from us..."

"Then why say that deities created us in their image?"

Igor said coldly:

"If God created humans in His own image, then humans are God’s mirror. All our qualities, whether good or bad, beautiful or ugly, God also must possess. Any good or evil, beauty or ugliness we lack, God must possess too."

Xia Beiluo’s head buzzed, as if the whole world had shaken.

"Wait, wait a minute!"

Xia Beiluo opened her mouth, struggling to find words to explain.

Her brain raced, striving to preserve the worldview she had been taught and nurtured by reality over the years.

"I, I think, I think God surely has His own reasons, you see, there are so many gods in the world, and their personalities are all different. We can’t substitute our own thoughts for God’s. God is surely high above us, knowing more, so, so..."

Igor calmly looked at her and said:

"Who told you these things?"

Xia Beiluo blurted out:

"It’s the Church."

Igor continued to press:

"Who comprises the Church?"

Xia Beiluo hesitated for a moment, realizing something was amiss:

"...People."

"You see, that’s what I mean."

Igor spread his hands:

"Actually, it’s not the gods who are ruling the mortals."

He leaned closer to Xia Beiluo and said earnestly:

"It’s a group of mortals, using the name of the gods, ruling over the mortals."

Xia Beiluo quickly retorted:

"But, the Lord, the Lord does truly exist, whether it’s the Master of Souls or the Primeval Heavenly Sovereign, or even the Void Emperor, the pathways they bring are genuine, and their strength does not deceive—"

"So what?"

"So, since the power of the gods does exist, then the gods must have authorized the Church to carry out these commands..."

"Deities order mortals to replace them in ruling over mortals?"

Igor questioned:

"Why couldn’t it be that these mortals, actively passed the power to rule and interpret the will of the deities to a select few mortals, letting mortals rule over mortals?"

Xia Beiluo’s pupils constricted.

"Tell me, if the deities need to personally rule every mortal, then why am I still here despite my blasphemous statements today? Does He not want to punish me, this heretic? Or is He unable to?"

Igor’s assertive counter-question left Xia Beiluo’s mind blank.

Just as she was unable to respond, Igor said:

"No. The deities certainly exist, they are within The Night Landscape, amid the vast expanse of stars. Their power drives the natural world, they are the essence of everything."

"But if they truly are all this, do you think they really still need to control us believers?"

Xia Beiluo stared blankly ahead.

"Dropout girl, you should clearly know the answer to all this in your heart."

Igor stood beside her, saying lightly:

"The gods don’t care."

"What bogus Church, what pious disciplines, what indulgences or offerings—the deities are too great, they simply don’t care about these."

"From the beginning to the end, confining mortal thoughts, ruling mortal fates, directing mortal order."

"It has always been mortals."

.........

"This is the office of the President of the Baizhu Autonomous State, I am the acting executive, may I ask—um? Ah, okay."

The woman rapidly typed on the keyboard, picked up the phone, and her delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly:

"Is that so? I’m sorry, President Leoz is currently on an official visit, if you have any problems, I can leave a message for you."

"Hmm, okay, good."

"Please leave your Name and contact information, I will relay it to His Excellency the President later."

Having said that, the woman nodded, and took up a pen to jot down some information:

"Dai Yawen, female, 28 years old, nationality: Azure Star-Frost Plated Republic."

"About to Descend into the Boundary Abyss."

"Next destination: Narrative No. 9—’Collapsed Homeland’"
