Chapter 633: 248. The Way of the Sovereign

[You have slain the Secret Jury—[White Knight], cumulative Hunter Progress...]

"Death Knell."

The head of White Shark reformed from a pool of sludge, rising up as he rubbed his blade across the back of his hand.

"I’ve bought you time; hurry up and sharpen your weapon."

[Bell Ringer] Host flipped the hourglass and murmured softly,

"Canyue timekeeping!"

Ding—ding—ding—

The bell tolled, and the overturned hourglass began to drop icy blue sand.

The world seemed to press the pause button: WInd ceased and snow halted, all semblances of motion came to a freeze.

Only the [White Knight] and [Bell Ringer] could still prepare for battle as they wished.

"Ha! Good cooperation."

White Shark rejoiced; the time stop gave him enough time to get ready.

[Sharpen Teeth and Claws]

He raised his sword, rapidly running it across the back of his hand.

[Sharpen Teeth and—

Bang!

Li Aozi flicked out a finger, gently tapping the ground, and the body of White Shark instantly melted away in the scorching wind.

"Using spacetime-based skills against a Gravity Manipulator, what, are you trying to rebel?"

[You have slain the Secret Jury—[White Knight], cumulative Hunter Progress...]

"Death Knell."

[Bell Ringer] Host strolled leisurely, dodging the Destructive Colossus’s onslaught as if he was a prophet foreseeing it, calmly resurrecting the [White Knight].

"Ugh—Damn it!"

White Shark held his mouth, forcibly swallowing back the regurgitate organs, retreating repeatedly. As he fled across the trembling earth in desperation, he couldn’t help but roar:

"What kind of monster is that!"

Boom boom boom boom boom!

His only response was a series of punches falling, raising mushroom clouds akin to atomic explosions upon the earth.

"It’s not looking good," said [Bell Ringer] Host indifferently, "It seems he’s immune to your constant dying; it will just waste my Ether Blood, and we’ll all be done for."

"So, what now? You’re going to come up with a plan when the time comes? The Time Stop’s useless, don’t you have any other plan?"

"Plan?" Host nodded, "Of course there is one."

White Shark turned, bellowing as he disappeared into the mountain rock. But the next moment, Li Aozi slapped the mountain apart, pulverizing it. The shockwave howled outwards in all directions, snow and sand were flung thousands of meters into the air, and amidst the friction of wind, snow, and sand, that looming, ferocious figure seemed all the more terrifying.

As layers of rock shattered and tumbled, White Shark was crushed beneath mountains. His frail body was inconsequential next to the natural formation and was instantly pressed into a pulp.

[Death Knell]

Time reversed once more, and White Shark’s body swiftly reconstituted amidst the sand and chunks of earth. Coughing violently, he pushed away the massive stones crushing him, the armor on his body dull and lightless.

"Cough cough cough—ugh!"

White Shark spat out a mouthful of silver blood, lying prostrate on the ground, his fingers trembling violently. The acute pain from being crushed by the boulders and then squeezed out alive from the crevices almost made it impossible for him to clench a fist.

"What on earth is that... There should only be Gamma Rank on this planet. Having completed reforging once, I was supposed to be invincible here!"

After gasping for breath for a while and noticing the giant god’s figure had vanished, he finally let out a sigh of relief and shakily stood up. He raised his hand, summoning the scepter transformed from Zonia, ready to grasp it firmly and plant it on the ground to help him stand upright.

[Sequential Arcane Energy·Iterative Movement]

Crack!

Li Aozi’s figure arrived in an instant; he unceremoniously kicked White Shark’s kneecap, flipping him to the ground, then stepped forward, grabbing his head and slam him over the shoulder onto the earth.

Bang!

White Shark’s face met the ground; dust and meltwater filled his mouth and nose, his knight helmet torn apart, revealing the biological flesh and panic-stricken young face underneath.

"Don’t, don’t come any closer!"

The voice of the [White Knight] Youhe Lai was shrill and hoarse. Faced with the oppressor whose head kept sinking into the snow, he could only beg for mercy in fright:

"You—who are you anyway?! We have no feud or grudge with you, right!"

"Can’t one kill without a feud?"

Li Aozi said, shoving Youhe Lai’s head into the snow.

"No, no... Sister, my sister! Zonia, Bell Ringer! Why won’t you useless lot come and save me—"

[Directed Blast]

Pop!

Youhe Lai’s head instantly swelled and exploded.

[You have advanced to ’Copper Hunter’]

"It seems you were betrayed by your teammates."

Li Aozi kicked away the remains of the White Knight’s corpse and with a flick of his toe, caught Zonia’s scepter in his hand.

"Brother... don’t move... brother..."

The voice was already quite low. It seemed Zonia’s Will was on its last flicker.

After checking her Attributes, Li Aozi figured out the principle behind her: this semi-finished Social Institution was relying on Youhe Lai for a supply of Life to maintain its Continuance. With the death of its bearer Youhe Lai, it would gradually wither over the next few hours.

"...How pitiful."

Li Aozi shook his head, handing over this Social Institution to his main body. With that, his mission to Azure Star officially ended.

The [Bell Ringer] fleeing and retreating only confirmed Li Aozi’s thoughts even more: the forces that the [Secret Society] deployed on Azure Star were very limited, and being able to dig up a Yawen was already the limit.

The fact that a Jury-ranked [White Knight] could be discarded so easily showed that, to the Secret Council, other than the Senators, it seemed all other members were expendable.

"Is this the so-called equality of the [Society]? How ironic," Li Aozi muttered, shaking his head, breaking free from the summons of Isaac and switching back to his main body.

Inside the temporary prison of Trevela City on Baizhu Star, Li Aozi opened his eyes and shook his neck, regaining control of his main body.

"Next, it’s time to welcome my fifth sequence."

With a beckoning gesture in the void, Li Aozi accepted the scepter traded from his alt, and deep blue tendrils oozed out from his palm’s fingertips, piercing into the spine of the scepter.

[Arcane Energy extracted from the target]: [Shadow Assault]

Rating: Mu (μ, the 12th letter of the Greek alphabet)

As the extraction of the Arcane Gene was completed, Zonia’s body gradually shriveled and, before his eyes, withered, became wooden, and eventually lost the signs of life in quietude.

For her, being able to leave this world full of suffering might have been the best release.

"May your soul delve into the Nether Abyss and be able to welcome a true rebirth... In your next life, don’t be a sister anymore; it’s too tiring," Li Aozi offered a soft prayer as he looked down, then he sent the woodenized scepter into the Autonomous Space-Time zone, finding a quiet corner to place it separately.

After that, he immediately immersed himself in the task of synthesizing Sequential Arcane Energy.

First, he had to extract the gene model of these Arcane Energies from the [White Obelisk], then add in Gene Fragments one node at a time, piecing them together until the Effects of the Arcane Energy got closer and closer.

As some of the Arcane Energies were of high Quality, Li Aozi faced a few failures in his combinations, but luckily, his resources were substantial enough to withstand those failures.

Five hours later.

[Midday Splendor], [White Phosphorus Fire], [Shadow Sprint], [Blessing of Goodness], [Distortion Curse], [Optical Distortion]—all assembled together.

A massive consumption of Gene Fragments made Li Aozi feel a pang, but seeing the capsule fill up with Arcane Energy once again lifted his spirits.

"Now, the accumulated Arcane Energy has finally returned to 10 again. The [Armor of Leoz] and the [Morphederia Sky-Cleaving Sword] can both be put back into use."

Li Aozi breathed a sigh of relief.

Next, all he needed to do was to find the [Sequence 90 - Extreme Dark Matter], and soon have a powerful sequence of Arcane Energy that ranked high. With this thought, Li Aozi was in high spirits and even gave a discount on the lease of his Arcane Energy.

"Now that I’ve reached the Zeta Rank, I just need to stay on Baizhu Star for another year. By then, with the Specialty [Perpetual Vanguard] and my academic status in hand, I can formally apply to join a Narrative-Level Civilization."

Other Narrative-level civilizations might not be easy to enter, but the Empire of Heralds was all too familiar for Li Aozi.

With his Zeta Rank (6), joining the Empire of Heralds was just barely meeting the minimum criteria. In general, to join the Empire and receive decent treatment, it’s best to be at least two ranks higher.
