Chapter 585: 206. Goodbye Yawen (Part 1)
"A wise decision," Nastisha said with a smile. "I don’t want anyone going to the battlefield, especially my students. The normal service period for conscripts is two years, but for the Cosmic Army, it starts at five. Of course, you’ll be enlisted in the reserves first; you’ll train occasionally, attend classes as usual, and not have to worry about life’s difficulties."
"May I make a request?"
Li Aozi asked:
"My friends—Hobbs and Lucite, they’re currently missing. Can you transfer their belongings to me? I want to try to look for clues and find them."
"Certainly."
Nastisha raised her hand, and a blue-feathered merlin appeared out of thin air. After she gave it a few instructions, the merlin immediately flapped its wings and disappeared.
Moments later, the merlin returned to Nastisha’s arm, bringing with it a backpack.
Li Aozi recognized it at a glance as Lucite’s oversized backpack, nodded his head, and thanked Nastisha:
"Thank you, Dean."
"It’s nothing—oh, and hand over the student cards you saved from Canyue’s clutches to me; I will ask the principal to find a solution."
He stood up, walked forward, picked up the backpack, and Nastisha also stood up to receive the cards Li Aozi had brought, nodding in satisfaction.
She had not misjudged him; though Leoz was of the Sovereign series, he indeed had a positive and proactive outlook, acknowledging the Crystal Tower Civilization and valuing his classmates.
He was different from Canyue.
Considering this child’s strong learning abilities and considerable strength, Nastisha felt a sense of regret for talent.
But sadly... in this era, there was nothing she could do anymore.
The elders in the higher ranks kept sending the young to the frontlines, and for the war, too much had already been sacrificed; there was no turning back.
She shook her head slightly and advised Li Aozi:
"Leo, you are a person with sentiments; don’t go anywhere these next few days—stay here. Officials will come to conduct an investigation on you, and I will help modify your information. Perhaps you will even receive a reward."
"I understand,"
Li Aozi nodded.
"Good, as long as you understand," said Nastisha, supporting her forehead as she activated a teleportation array. "I’m going to check the school. You stay here diligently, and I will arrange for someone to bring you food. If you need anything, just tell me."
After she said that, she turned and left.
Li Aozi didn’t resist; the other party was an old Spellcaster of the Yita Phase, and he couldn’t escape, so it was better to wait here peacefully.
"[I wonder how the others are doing...]"
Players were still on their way delivering supplies to Trevela City; Li Aozi thought about it and did not refuse, letting the players build a good reputation—there was no harm in that.
Then, there was a special person.
Li Aozi released a gravity wave, connecting to a familiar target:
"[Yawen, I’ve dealt with Canyue, and now I’m inside the school. I’ll be back safe before long, so you can return to Newbie Village first—]"
"Sorry, she can’t go back anymore."
Li Aozi suddenly looked up as an array unfolded in front of him, showing an Arcane Glow. The next moment, Yavin Heskixin and the veiled woman he had met once before appeared before him.
"Yawen? And you..."
The veiled woman smiled gently, and Li Aozi, remembering something, pulled out the amulet she had given him before, coming to a realization.
"Did you track me with this thing?"
"Don’t put it that way," the veiled woman said with a laugh. "It’s just a small Good Luck Charm—the real tracking was done with the emitted Echo."
Li Aozi raised an eyebrow: "You can track the source of a gravity wave? That’s not a skill a Mortal can master."
"I’m not always a Mortal," the veiled woman replied. "Enough chitchat."
She looked toward Yawen:
"Miss Yawen, it’s time for you to express your intentions."
"Thank you, Miss Vellia."
Yawen nodded and thanked the veiled woman, who then turned and walked away, indicating she would leave them alone.
In the dark room, only the two of them were left.
"Yawen, what’s this about..." Li Aozi asked, puzzled. "You called that woman Vellia? There was a huge commotion from the recent attack; you’re not hurt, are you? Anyway, if things don’t work out, you should go back to Newbie Village for now—I’ll be back in a few days—"
"Mr. Leoz,"
Yawen interrupted:
"You truly like to control other people’s Fate, don’t you?"
Li Aozi was stunned: "Do I?"
"It’s not a bad thing," Yawen explained, slowly walking towards him with a lunchbox in her hands. "I didn’t have much to do, so I asked the cook to make you some rice, Lemon soda, and potato chicken stew."
Li Aozi took the lunchbox, looking at her; Yawen’s expression was calm, neither self-deprecating nor sensitive or downtrodden as she normally was.
She was shorter than Li Aozi, barely reaching one meter seventy even with high heels, yet the gaze she cast at him was one of equals.
For the first time, she looked at him eye to eye, instead of with an inferior and subordinate demeanor.
"...You’re alright, aren’t you?"
Li Aozi put down the lunchbox and lifted his hand to rest on her shoulder:
"Did that Vellia say something to you? Something about Secrets and ’Society’? Don’t think too much; if there’s really something wrong, I’ll take responsibility."
"Thank you, Mr. Leoz,"
Yawen nodded gently:
"Despite knowing I’m a Society Citizen, you still choose to tolerate and accept me, and for that, I am grateful."
