Chapter 564: 192. Yawen’s Determination
Yavin Heskixin treaded across the ruins, striding through the fierce flames. Her steps were light, yet her figure seemed burdened, the chilling wind scattering the hair on her forehead and adding to her confusion.
[What should I do?]
She looked down at the lunch box she brought with her, which contained carefully prepared meals, including the traditional Frost Plated dish of honey bean salad, cream-baked shrimp.
Leo’s favorite food was potato stewed chicken, a specialty of the Azure Star. The most authentic way to prepare it required highland red potatoes and free-range chicken meat.
To make this dish, the ingredients required white pepper powder, salt, white cheese, honey, granulated sugar, carrots, and depending on taste, add sausage and sliced bacon.
It was usually served with rice, bread, and flour tortillas.
While somewhat knowledgeable about alcohol, Leo actually dislikes drinking. In everyday life, he has no habit of consuming alcohol. Leo is particularly fond of carbonated drinks, especially lemon soda, paired with mint leaves and a few ice cubes.
Leo had never shared this with her, so how did she come to know these things?
On the Azure Star, Leo had hosted more than one live stream, and Yawen stayed up late to watch all his recordings to understand him better, including mentions of his favorite dishes and preferences.
The more she understood, the more she found Leo to be strange.
On one hand, Leo disliked raw food, he insisted on well-done steaks with a thorough Maillard reaction to win his approval.
Yet on the other hand, Leo never cared what dishes the restaurants served him, never invited anyone to eat out or accepted dinner invitations, advocating split bills.
On one hand, Leo expressed no interest in war, considering those who love war as madmen and teenagers afflicted by second-year syndrome.
On the other hand, his approach to solving problems often involved war, where he would overpower one side with absolute violence.
He had no beliefs, cared not for such consciousness, and even regarding lovemaking and family marriage, he remained aloof.
He cared for the health and safety of infants, directly confronted the capital groups of Velazquez, took in many interstellar refugees to Newbie Village, and did not treat them as slaves or tools.
Even for the immortal Descenders, Leo cared about their experience, tending to them and nurturing them as if they were beloved pets.
But then.
Yawen looked ahead.
At dusk, the streets were shrouded in thick fog, her skin dampened by the mist, her gaze piercing into the fog, but unable to see its end.
[In Leo’s eyes, do I truly exist?]
He cared for many, took care of many, and was willing to draw his sword against the Great Powers for some.
[...What about me?]
Among those Leo protected, was there a place for Yavin Heskixin? Did he see her as a friend, a woman, or just a passerby?
[The so-called: ’You mean a lot to me’, is it a comforting lie, or to you, am I just a tool?]
From Frost Plated to Outer World, from Azure Star to Baizhu Star.
You fly onward, and even if I chase relentlessly, I can hardly keep up.
Yawen stood at the crossroads, unable to discern where the Dimensional Barrier lay.
Should I continue the pursuit, for that ’meaningful’ word, pursuing relentlessly?
—The image of a blond girl’s beauty and alluring figure emerged before her eyes.
[Chase relentlessly, then watch as Leo takes her into his arms? Afterwards, do I keep moving forward to chase his ownership, keep transforming myself just to be worthy of him?]
Yawen asked herself:
[Should I really do this?]
There was a moment when she suddenly remembered her own heritage.
She was a Frost Plated Person.
Even if her blood was secretly altered, it couldn’t change her cultural identity.
[I... I shouldn’t change myself for someone else, become someone who lives for others.]
Inferiority.
Yawen suddenly understood: Secret forces had taken away her confidence, making her feel inferior, precisely to turn her into such a person.
Inferiority is the Professional Quality of the Tailor, ashamed of one’s appearance and physique, trying to cover up flaws with well-tailored Fashion.
But the more she disguised, the more inferior she felt.
Dresses were her Armor; without silk and nylon, she became utterly vulnerable.
In the end, that layer of dress became her Exoskeleton, holding up her shell, living like a spider.
[Leo will never respect such a person, and even I, I too despise such a person.]
"Oh?"
An exclamation arose:
"Miss Yawen, it’s been a long time."
Yawen lifted her head as a beautiful veiled woman slowly emerged from the mist, with features so distinctive that Yawen recognized her at a glance.
"Adventurous Saintess Vellia."
The other party blinked her aquamarine eyes:
"I am delighted that you still remember my name."
"How did you come here?" Yawen questioned with confusion. "This place should be dangerous, filled with Dimensional Barriers, and you are just a Mortal after all."
"Quite the opposite, because I am a Mortal, I needed to come here."
Vellia smiled slightly:
"I am here to assemble my comrades-in-arms."
"Comrades-in-arms?" Yawen asked, puzzled. "Who are you going up against?"
"A [Society]," Vellia said. "It looks like you are still unaware—[Mechanical World Society] has already assembled enough Senators on this planet, and now, they are about to summon the mother entity to Descend."
