Chapter 509: 144. Prelude_2

Li Aozi hugged his arms, quietly waiting for the drama to unfold.

...............

Red Arrow Empire, Erga City, Monolith District Police Station.

Officer Chris Vincent yawned as he brewed coffee and continuously wrote his duty report.

The White Obelisk that descended six months ago instantly turned the once remote countryside into a top tourist destination of the empire today; however, it also greatly increased the enforcement difficulty for the local police station. The larger the crowd, the greater the burden on the officers. The young officer Chris could already be described as a "Trinity."

The hairstyle of a programmer, the physique of a civil engineer, the mental state of a pediatrician.

He furrowed his brows, the night was still long, and tomorrow would be busy; after brewing the coffee, he would have to continue working. He just hoped that some capable newcomers would arrive soon, so he could escape this suffering.

Just as he was walking to his desk with the coffee pot, a sudden announcement resonated in the lobby:

"Please, 0212 to window six."

"Ah," Chris sighed, "I hope it’s not another case of ’I lost my wallet’ or ’I can’t find my child.’ Otherwise, I really can’t do this anymore. Seventy or eighty times a day, what are these parents thinking? Can’t they keep an eye on their own kids?"

Though he complained verbally, Chris’s body honestly moved to sit in front of the window. He numbly turned on the computer, picked up the microphone, and said subconsciously, "Hello, Monolith District Police Station, how can I assist you?"

The complainant politely said, "I am very sorry for disturbing you so late, Officer."

"It’s all right, it would be better to inform us earlier if there is anything in the future."

Chris had just finished speaking when he realized something was amiss. He looked up beyond the bulletproof glass: sitting in the chair was a middle-aged man dressed in a black robe with red trim, with a benevolent face. Chris was surprised, "It turns out to be Mr. Kadan Foliqi! Shouldn’t you be serving the deities? What major issue has occurred?"

The man in front was a ’deity’s’ agent assigned on earth. As to whether it was true or false... at least for now, the ’mandates’ he had received from the White Obelisk seemed plausible, helping Erga City’s GDP to keep rising. In any case, he was a person of high authority, and Chris dared not neglect him.

"I listened to a warning from the Heavenly God late at night. He cautioned me that a group of ill-intentioned heretics intends to ruin the relationship between the Empire and the Frost Plating Federation," Kadan said solemnly. "The deities sensed among them a traitor who possessed arcane powers; it is through that ’Mutant’ that we can pinpoint their destination. Please believe in my testimony..."

At the beginning, Chris felt it was somewhat bizarre, but as the number of people Kadan mentioned grew and the information became more detailed—in fact, even revealing that they had an AE-150 ’Albatross’ unmanned aerial gunship—Chris could no longer remain calm.

Being able to specify various weapon models data and operating principles was definitely not something an ex-farmer turned old priest could comprehend.

"I need to contact my superiors," Chris said. "Please wait here for a moment, and you may need to help us... communicate with the deities."

Having said that, Chris quickly ran to the next room and phoned the Imperial Armed Department to report the matter.

If this intelligence were authentic, it would indicate a group of terrorists attempting to provoke a war. Relationships with the Frost Plating Federation were becoming increasingly intimate for the Empire, and His Excellency the Emperor intended to end the conflict with Sky Ring Country within his lifetime. As for Frost Plated’s resentment, they had already exacted their vengeance almost entirely.

How could such a thing affect the Empire’s centuries-old great cause!

A few minutes later, the Imperial Armed Department received this intelligence.

The duty officer, Stephen, opened his email listlessly and skillfully used a decoding tool to read the content. After briefly reviewing it, he immediately scoffed,

"A group of terrorists about to trigger a civil war in Melva and try to drag the Empire into the mess? Are they out of their minds? Who would believe this stuff?"

He shook his head, set the document aside, and continued to lounge in his rocking chair, soon raising a ruckus.

In reality, anyone in the Imperial Armed Department would first think ’forgery’ upon seeing such detailed intelligence.

The Empire’s intelligence department pales in comparison to the Frost Plating Federation’s "Law Mechanism." The Third Rule Agency’s unique system of direct responsibility is unmatched in the Four Nations. This allows agents to act without regard for consequences, since ultimately, we are only accountable to His Excellency the President — if you seek to hold someone responsible, go to the President.

This was also why David Lyn was the most active responder when initiating the purge; they didn’t need to worry about being implicated and dealt their blows mercilessly.

That’s simply not the case in the Empire.

Furthermore, mostly employing an employee system within the Empire’s bureaucracy, most people seeing this intelligence at the end of their shifts would only conclude: Only professional spies could master such detailed information. How could a police officer from a marginal city possibly understand this?

Given the middle of the night, there was no significant leadership on duty at the Armed Department, and the attending personnel, after a few glances, determined this was undoubtedly a foreign spy’s attempt to spread panic by releasing a fake alert. Undoubtedly, they sought to waste our energy.

Hence, Chris’s message, once sent out, received no reply, leaving him puzzled. Based on his many years of service, he was quite convinced the matter was real.

Now renowned and accomplished, Kadan Foliqi would hardly risk his reputation and wealth just to spread rumors. As for the will of the Deities, that was secondary and entirely understandable as an intelligence source of the White Obelisk organization.

After all, ancient churches functioned similarly, nominally serving as missionary institutions, but actually continually meddling in espionage, effectively turning those churches into intelligence hubs.

A full two hours later, Chris still hadn’t received any directives. Biting the bullet, he decided to trust his instincts. Such a significant issue, if he did nothing, he would surely be condemned by the citizenry in the future.

Chris mentally prepared himself and contacted the mobile squadron of the Erga City Police Department and the Pioneers’ Association to investigate Melva.

As it turned out, he had made the right call.

Just 20 minutes after Chris made the call to the mobile squadron, a border outpost in Erga City detected nearby signals of firepower on their computers. After tracing the signals, they discovered they originated from the Kingdom of Melva.

Various pieces of evidence indicated: A military operation was underway inside Melva.
