Chapter 491: 128. Breakthrough Direction
"This is the place."
Li Aozi glanced at the information in the chat record and, confirming that the luxurious student apartment in front of him was his destination, he strode forward and pressed the doorbell.
Ding Dong~
Shortly after, a middle-aged voice came from inside:
"Miss Wendy Destis is resting. Please come back later."
It was probably the butler or a servant. It seemed that this Destis must also be a descendant of some high official or noble from a certain country.
With this understanding, Li Aozi spoke to the inside:
"Freshman Leoz here, I had an appointment with Wendy Destis."
"Student Leoz? Uh, no offense, but there are quite a few with your name among our guests. May I ask your surname is...?"
"I have no surname. I’m just called Leoz."
"No surname." The butler found that odd, his tone becoming less respectful and more neutral: "Very well, identity confirmed. Please come in, Leoz."
Since the superiority of one’s bloodline greatly affects a spellcaster’s talent, magic civilization places excessive importance on ancestry, even slowly evolving into a culture of disdain for surname-based origins.
Li Aozi, however, didn’t mind. After all, to humans, ants and the queen ant aren’t much different.
As the door opened, he walked in with confidence. This luxurious private dormitory was akin to a small villa. It housed at least fifteen servants responsible for everyday living and academic assistance, including some flamboyantly dressed men and women who clearly did not have the air of those engaged in physical labor...
Certainly, the person maintained an exquisite and subtle pursuit of quality of life.
Guided by a meticulously dressed senior butler, Li Aozi passed through the living room and study to the courtyard behind, where he looked up to see a gazebo by the lake, birds chirping and fish frolicking, an image of serene beauty—it felt less like a place for study and more a spot for vacation.
"Miss Wendy, Leoz, with whom you have an appointment, has arrived," said the butler, bowing respectfully.
"I knew it, considering the time, he should have arrived by now."
Li Aozi looked ahead, and in the gazebo, a mature woman with rose-colored hair was leisurely tossing fish food into the water while holding a scroll, a relaxed and content scene hard to imagine in a place as fiercely competitive as Baizhu Interstellar University.
The woman turned her head and glanced casually at Li Aozi, her eyes immediately brightening:
"Ah, I thought a character from a painting came to life!"
After speaking, she set down the book and fish food, walked briskly toward Li Aozi, and circled around him, her gaze intense and admiring:
"Student Leoz, I didn’t expect such a handsome young beauty. Why don’t you use your real photo as your profile picture? Are you afraid of being harassed by girls?"
"Senior flatters me; let’s discuss the matter at hand," said Li Aozi, feeling a bit uneasy. From the moment he entered the courtyard, he sensed a strong feeling of being watched, surely something was covertly observing him.
"The matter at hand? Ah, what’s that all about? Let’s sit down for some afternoon tea, discuss philosophy and politics—now that’s a real issue."
Wendy’s eyes twinkled mischievously, her words carrying a hint of flirtation, yet she steered clear of the main topic.
Li Aozi cut to the chase:
"Senior Wendy Destis, I come recommended by Senior Modote. Senior Modote has been very kind to me, and since you are on good terms with him, that makes you an acquaintance of mine. So, let’s not beat around the bush: Senior Modote mentioned you are quite knowledgeable about memory-related magic potions, and I would like to commission a potion from you that can excavate deep memories."
"Ah," Wendy sighed, resting her chin on her hand, "Modote finally introduces me to a handsome person, and straight out of the gate, he’s a typical nerdy guy from a STEM field; I should have expected no less... "
Li Aozi drooped his eyelids, deliberately keeping a straight face as he responded:
"Strictly speaking, as a first-year in the Department of Magic Application, I am technically in the humanities and social sciences..."
"See, this is exactly why I dislike you STEM guys picking at words. Do you understand what ’romantic’ means, at all?"
"I generally don’t display romance," shrugged Li Aozi. "I was quite romantic when I first started out. Then two of my female teammates died."
Wendy threw up her hands in dissatisfaction and pouted:
"I’m not talking to you anymore, so boring—But on Modote’s account, I’ll do this for you. Don’t bother me after this."
"What a deal?"
His eyes lighting up, Li Aozi nodded immediately:
"Thank you."
"Tsk." Wendy rolled her eyes and then sat down on a chair below in the garden, crossing her legs and asking nonchalantly: "Tell me all about your situation. By the way, when it comes to personal memory digging, even Third-Year students can’t just concoct a potion for you out of thin air. No matter what, you’ll have to wait two days."
"No problem." Li Aozi briefly described his situation: "I need to undergo a comprehensive recollection to dig up every detail from my memory. If possible, it would be best if even sounds I heard once or videos I saw once could all be recalled."
"Hmm... That request isn’t unreasonable."
Wendy pondered for a moment, then started asking additional questions:
"Do you know your Lifebound Star?"
"I haven’t checked." Li Aozi shook his head.
"Let me check for you." Wendy raised her hand, and a magic spell array immediately formed, shining upon Li Aozi for a while. He felt a slight tremor in his soul, and then it ended.
Wendy rotated the array and summoned the Magical Guided Brain to assist in the interpretation, quickly arriving at a conclusion:
"Libra Star Ω, a personality that values efficiency, inclined towards realism, believing that the distinction between good and evil is meaningless, and that interests and order are more important than moral concepts—oh, how accurate. It’s just like you."
Li Aozi was slightly surprised.
"This is not me. I am a very emotional person with rich feelings."
"Unfortunately, your Lifebound Star does not lie, you must believe in magic," Wendy said indifferently. "Another question, do you have any mental illnesses?"
"I have a bit of schizophrenia, but I have been taking medication recently, and it hasn’t affected me."
"That’s nothing; which modern person doesn’t have a bit of schizophrenia or depression? Safety risks can be ruled out then."
Wendy input the information into the Magical Guided Brain, and after analyzing it for a while, she raised her eyebrow, looking at Li Aozi with a hint of novelty:
"You are lucky."
"What do you mean by that—could it be that you have ready-made medication here?"
"Exactly," Wendy said, looking at Li Aozi with a peculiar expression. "Had you come an hour earlier or later, the medicine would have been sent to the workshop to be sold. I’ll have someone retrieve it, but before that, let’s just chat casually."
"Thank you," Li Aozi nodded his thanks. He hadn’t anticipated things going so smoothly and felt good. Subconsciously, he decided to take out his wallet to make a transfer: "Please tell me the price—"
"Hold on, hold on, what do you mean by this?"
"Uh, isn’t it proper to pay?"
"I am not questioning that."
Wendy stood up and walked towards Li Aozi step by step, her gaze fixed and her expression strange:
"You, talking about money with me?"
"...Is there a problem?"
"A problem? Don’t you know my identity?"
Wendy spread her hands, only to find it amusing:
"Wendy Destis! You don’t know the name Destis? Bringing up money with me is just an insult. Those noble families and royal descendants are just passing clouds to me, my dear. In the time it takes for us to have an afternoon tea, I already earn a whole Trevela City’s worth."
Li Aozi was bewildered.
"Do you mean, you don’t accept Ammonium Gold?"
"Ammonium Gold is just junk metal used for internal transactions in your Crystal Tower Civilization, you don’t know that, do you, beautiful fool? There’s much more to the world than the Crystal Tower and the Night Butterfly Federation."
Wendy said expansively:
"My family comes from the depths of the stars, managing a rich realm where we use ’Ammonium Gold’ as eternal currency, blessed by The Pantheon, secured by the Authority of Redd Gold, Soul of Plunder, and endowed with almost everlasting purchasing power, beyond what civilizations like your Crystal Tower could imagine."
[Ammonium Gold? Is it really that impressive?]
A weird thought crossed Li Aozi’s mind:
"May I ask what status your family holds..."
"The Destis Family, from the thirteenth Narrative, ’Empire of Heralds’."
Wendy said mysteriously:
"Our family has operated in the Celestial Star Belt for two hundred years and will soon be incorporated into the Inherent Temporal Domain, becoming a core territory of the Empire."
"Celestial Star Belt?" Li Aozi blinked. "Celestial Nebula?"
"Humph, you wouldn’t know that, would you?" Wendy glanced at Li Aozi. "I’m only telling you because you’re handsome—if you leaked it out, though, nobody would believe you."
"Why would I betray a miss as kind and heavenly as you? I’ll definitely keep it a secret, so feel free to share."
"Hehehe, your sweet talking is really something—but I do enjoy it, say more nice things."
Wendy squinted her eyes, laughing:
"The ’Empire of Heralds’ is different from other Narrative-level Civilizations; it is a coalition made up of countless civilizations, all revolving around the immortal Philosopher King. Because of this, our expansion speed is four to five times faster than other narrative-level civilizations upgrading from a single civilization. Our family has benefited a lot, earning a million Ammonium Gold each year."
Li Aozi glanced at his bank account, where Konstantin had accumulated 7.8 million Ammonium Gold for him in a month.
[I know this, stop showing off, I just think you haven’t seen the world...]
Li Aozi arched an eyebrow, pretending to be astonished:
"Wow, so that’s how it is. The Empire is indeed mighty."
"Humph," Wendy smiled. "That’s just the least noteworthy advantage of the Empire..."
"So, what exactly is the Celestial Star Belt?"
"The Celestial Star Belt is not the same thing as the Celestial Nebula shown on the Star Map; it’s an area being developed, currently under the control of one of the Layer Abyss Great Powers of the Galaxy Civilization."
"Of course, this also includes supervised development by the Fenesis Federation."
