Chapter 437: 76. Assassination Plan

The man spread his hands, and although there was only a Gamma Rank biological frequency signal on him, Nikita dared not take it lightly. He was old and weakened and didn’t wear any tactical gear, so he might not be a match for a hot-headed youngster.

Moreover, the fact that the other party had stealthily bypassed all the traps he had set and came right next to him, even listening in for a while, was enough to prove that his strength should not be underestimated.

At least, he had reached the Delta Rank, just like himself.

There’s only one life to live, and being overly cautious never hurt anyone. Nikita certainly didn’t want to lose his life here.

"Such a cliché name, you think I would believe that?"

Nikita sneered.

At this moment, saying "My name is Leoz" was like a stranger telling you "My name is Little Ming"; it was completely untrustworthy.

Aozi was unfazed, directly transmitting his thoughts into the other’s mind with his spiritual power, "It doesn’t matter whether you believe it or not, but I can tell you the consequences of not believing."

"Oh?" Nikita still maintained a combat stance and casually replied, "What else could possibly happen? My country has already gone bankrupt, unemployed, shut down, lost control, stagnant, lost import resources—what could be worse than this?"

"Become a drug testing slave, a moving target, and biological fertilizer."

Aozi stated.

"National extinction?"

"The fall of a country and a family."

Nikita scoffed:

"Nonsense! This is the Interstellar Era; civilizations no longer wage wars of extinction. You, with your lack of common sense, ha, think I don’t understand the law because I’m old?"

"Laws are for law-abiding citizens to follow. Talking law to lawless thugs, well, I can only say that you’ve wasted the violent decades of your life."

Aozi spread his hands, innocently saying:

"I suspect you don’t know what the Blood of Nakis is, do you?"

"Who exactly are you?"

Nikita said gravely:

"I’ve never seen anyone like you; you’re not part of Valenkov’s group, so where do you come from?"

"Want to listen?" Aozi didn’t answer but instead said lightly, "If you want to know why your homeland has attracted the attention of a Narrative-Level Civilization, I would be happy to tell you. If you continue to question this way, then I must say: it’s inevitable that you and your country will be swept into the dustbin of history."

His words were quite piercing, but Nikita calmed down instead.

After a moment of silent contemplation, he slowly put down the plier, restoring it to a normal humanoid hand with six fingers, and nodded, signaling Aozi to continue.

"It seems I haven’t misjudged you."

Aozi feigned mystery with his comment, making Nikita think he had been observing him for a long time, before saying:

"The Blood of Nakis is a special entity, possessing properties similar to neutrinos, undetectable by any device, and not even observable through the Spirit Realm by Spirit Mediums. It can only be sensed through the biological flesh that contacts its medium."

"But if this thing can’t be touched or seen, what use is it?"

"You see, this is where your understanding is narrow."

Aozi said cheerfully:

"An object that can’t be seen or touched, isn’t it the perfect material for masking the movements of a fleet?"

"I think a Narrative-Level Civilization wouldn’t lack such resources. That reasoning doesn’t hold up."

"Then we need to discuss another aspect of the matter."

Aozi said:

"Behind Velazquez is a Narrative-Level Civilization, and the most interesting and important thing to a Narrative-Level Civilization is what?"

"Pathway."

Nikita blurted out, then suddenly came to a realization:

"Are you saying the Blood of Nakis is related to the Pathway?"

"Not necessarily, but the relationship must be significant. If it were a complete Pathway, it would have directly provoked a Narrative-Level Civilization to intervene personally, and sending Velazquez signifies that the group isn’t ready to escalate the situation yet,"

At this point, Li Aozi took the opportunity to make his own demand:

"Mr. Nikita, how about we make a deal?"

"What do you want? Are you also here for the Blood of Nakis?"

"I only know a little about the Blood of Nakis, but that’s not what I came for. Otherwise, I would have killed you to silence you long ago."

Li Aozi spoke confidently, leaving Nikita speechless.

"Leoz, what are you really here for?"

"Let’s just say it’s for justice."

"...Justice?" Nikita grimaced and snorted, "That word sounds truly awkward."

"Judge by actions, not intentions, I’ll make Velazquez leave."

Li Aozi smiled:

"My actions will ultimately not affect your normal lives, and it will only be beneficial for Valenkov. As for my purpose—let’s not talk about that."

Nikita didn’t trust this kind of talk, but Li Aozi indeed didn’t show any malice.

Moreover, there was an indescribable affinity about him that didn’t make him seem like a man with ulterior motives.

As for strength... Nikita didn’t think he could take on the entirety of Velazquez alone compared to finding someone to cooperate with.

He tentatively trusted him, but not completely.

"Okay, if you can really do it."

Nikita nodded.

"But what do you need me for?"

"I need to know about your boss, the highest commander of the Kalmetz Shield in Valenkov. Someone has entrusted me to get his children out of the country."

"Take Kalmetz’s children away from Valenkov?" Nikita was confused, "Why don’t you just go and talk to Kalmetz directly? Why come to me, a former Scout?"

At that, something dawned on him, and his eyes went wide:

"You aren’t planning on kidnapping the leader’s children, are you?"

Li Aozi offered no explanation and said:

"Can you help me? Without Kalmetz knowing, take them out of Valenkov."

"That’s not difficult." Nikita raised his hand, then lowered it again, "So you are forcing Kalmetz to step down... Well, I have no burdens either."

"It seems Kalmetz hasn’t been good to you?"

"No, he has been very good to us, which is why we don’t want him to continue as the leader."

Nikita said with complexity:

"Sometimes, leadership ability and character are unrelated. It’s not that good character in a leader leads everybody toward prosperity and strength. Our country’s downfall is also related to Kalmetz’s strategies."

"Aren’t you afraid I might kill Kalmetz?"

"Kalmetz is a good-hearted man, but his good intentions have led to countless deaths."

"If you really do that, it might be a good thing."

Nikita shook his head:

"Come on, Li Aozi, I’ll take you to the Merlot Building, where Kalmetz’s office and royal chambers are located. Heavily guarded, ordinary people can’t enter."

"That’s why I came to you."

Li Aozi said:

"Sorenfu Nikita, the last of Valenkov’s mutant heroes, the Purple Gold Combat Mercenary, recipient of the Medal of Fearlessness, personally decorated by Kalmetz— you know him the best. Among all who have had contact with the Shield Emblem Family, you are the only surviving person."
