Meteor Fall Master in the 'Starry Abyss'
Chapter 435 - 74. [Adventurous Saintess] Vellia

Chapter 435: 74. [Adventurous Saintess] Vellia

If Li Aozi had been present, he would have been astonished to recognize her origin.

The mainline NPC of Baizhu Star, the protagonist of the "Heroes of Falysia" task, known as the "Adventurous Saintess," Vellia.

"I—" Yawen had just opened her mouth when Vellia interrupted her:

"I know you, Yavin Heskixin, I’ve been watching you for quite a while."

Yawen did not extend her hand for a handshake.

She stared coldly at the other person without saying anything.

"How interesting, a senator of the Secret Society has actually appeared on this planet."

Vellia wasn’t annoyed; she merely placed her extended hand back on her shoulder. A small spider crawled slowly over her pale shoulder. She raised her hand and lightly guided the spider with the back of her hand, speaking to it rather than looking at Yawen:

"Don’t worry, I’m not a citizen of the Secret Society. My two mothers serve on the Jury in the Secret Council, one as an Adventurer and the other as a Saintess, but—I am a true native of the Starry Abyss."

She spoke with a light-hearted tone that seemed uncharacteristic for a woman, but her charm and beauty far surpassed Yawen’s. In her view, Vellia’s beauty was only second to Li Aozi.

"What are you trying to say?" Yawen did not understand her intentions. "You say you’ve been monitoring me for a long time and mention your direct blood relation to a citizen of the Secret Society—pardon me, but could you speak plainly?"

"Wise men do not fall in love; fools willingly fall into degradation."

Vellia held up the spider on her hand and said:

"Miss Yawen, if you touch that memory crystal from the Echoer, the spacetime energy inside will destroy you—that’s a countermeasure by the Starry Abyss against society citizens."

Ha.

Yawen shook her head, placed her hands on her hips, and her gaze became extremely impatient.

"I won’t touch it. You can leave now," Yawen said. "Please don’t disturb my work and life."

"I’ve hinted at you many times, Yawen. You really lack an artistic sense. To think you’re a tailor, doesn’t that include a sense of romance?"

Vellia regretfully cradled the spider, glanced up at Yawen, and said lightly:

"I’m advising you not to indulge in your feelings for a man. You are mistaking your dependency for affection. If this continues, you’ll fall into the abyss sooner or later, leaving no bones behind."

Yawen coldly interrupted:

"Whom I choose to care for is none of your business. If you continue, I’ll have to ask you to leave."

"Don’t rush." Vellia smiled faintly. "Miss Yawen, I’m not targeting you, but your lover—or perhaps your crush?"

Yawen grasped the hem of her sleeve, and in an instant, the ruins’ hall was covered with a network of pale spider silk. Each thread was as thin and resilient as a nanotube, shimmering with a spiritual radiance, further highlighting Vellia’s alabaster skin and captivating allure.

"You can leave now,"

Yawen said coldly.

"My love is humble, but even so, it satisfies a sinner like me."

The spider on her hand scurried away in fright. Vellia regretfully turned her head to look at Yawen.

"With your upbringing, you could have become a princess or a queen."

Vellia waved her hand gently. "But following Mr. Leoz, you will likely end up as an unnoticed mouthpiece."

"I’ve never considered that. My father devoted everything to the country. He would not choose a foolish and weak girl like me as his successor."

Yawen raised her hand and placed it over her chest, her eyes filled with complex emotions:

"I consumed my sister. I committed an unforgivable sin. With my guilt, I don’t deserve to live in this world. It’s only because Li Aozi needs me that I continue to exist."

Vellia looked at her sympathetically:

"Poor child, that’s just acting."

"It’s not, Li Aozi needs me—"

"Look at what you’re saying. Don’t capitalists need workers too? Are you going to teach workers to love capitalists?"

Yawen was stunned for a moment and said:

"That’s not what I mean..."

"I think you need to understand something, my dear fool." Vellia paced slowly as she spoke. "You are now a citizen of the Society. You’re not truly yourself; you can only find the meaning of life within the Society."

"...What about Li Aozi?"

"Fool, society citizens don’t have independent will. You’re not even the same species as your hubristic Starry Abyss native boyfriend."

Vellia looked at her with pity:

"In the past, my two mothers were deceived. They even fought fiercely over a man and betrayed the Secret Society. Ultimately, they were betrayed by the man they trusted—ironically, it was the Society and Mother Gaia who saved them."

"Gaia..."

Yawen murmured.

"Yes, Gaia. Without the Secret Society, I probably wouldn’t exist in this world."

Vellia circled Yawen, examining her from head to toe:

"You are quite beautiful and very capable, but you don’t live for a man; you live for yourself. Yawen, I hope you realize that neither the Society nor the Starry Abyss is good. Their conflict has left countless families in ruins."

"The Secret Society uses senators to facilitate their full presence, devouring civilizations, while the Starry Abyss wants to use your life to plug an endless frontline."

"Don’t love them; don’t love the grand narrative. Love yourself."

Yawen sighed and asked, "What exactly do you want to say?"

"I’m here to invite you."

"Invite me?" Yawen was bewildered. "I, I’m just a tailor."

"Yes, to invite you, Yavin Heskixin."

Vellia said:

"This planet has already been infiltrated by society citizens. Narrative-level civilizations are constantly monitoring the situation here. Sooner or later, you will be discovered."

"If Gaia’s people discover you, they will integrate your will into the Ether, an environment where you can’t resist and will immediately succumb to the Society."

"If discovered by a narrative-level civilization, they will unhesitatingly dismantle you, destroy you, and turn you into a weapon or equipment."

"Even your crush, Li Aozi, once he finds out that you are a secret citizen, he would turn his blade against you without hesitation."

Vellia looked at her seriously.

"I’m here to protect you, to protect people like you, who refuse to submit to the Secret yet are rejected by the civilization of the Starry Abyss."

"...I don’t believe it."

Yawen shook her head:

"Li Aozi would never hurt me. I am utterly sure of that."

"Huh, they say love makes the brain shrink. I don’t expect to persuade you with just a few words."

Vellia paused next to Yawen, gazing nostalgically at the two memory crystals:

"Li Aozi... Leoz. Such a common and mainstream name, much like the man himself. That man is perfectly in tune with the narrative civilization and the Starry Abyss, favored by this world—why waste your time falling in love with someone so lofty, someone gifted by nature, aren’t you asking for trouble?"

"Say no more."

Yawen said weakly:

"He needs me, at least he wants to need me."

"Your ’inferiority complex’ is truly terrible." Vellia patted her forehead helplessly. "In that case, I think it’s necessary to tell you all that I’ve recently learned."

"What does that have to do with me—"

"It certainly concerns you."

Vellia slowly sat beside the shrine and looked up at Yawen:

"You don’t know. Li Aozi... this pronunciation is strange. I’ll call him Leoz. You don’t realize what this name means in just these two short weeks. You are too close to him; like Icarus nearing the sun, you will be burnt to ashes and fall from the sky."

"What is Icarus?" Yawen was puzzled, then continued with her main concern: "What happened to Li Aozi?"

"Leoz, is not of your world."

Vellia paused to organize her thoughts and said:

"In short, he is a god."
