Chapter 412: 53. Memories of the Commune_2
Liue operated the instrument casually while answering lazily.
"Shouldn’t there be many people holding sequence-level Arcane Energy? Why don’t you go after them?"
"I can’t beat them. Otherwise, I’d have done it already."
"So, you’re doing this because of the ’Calamity God’?"
"It’s better not to pry into such topics."
"Hmm, it seems like the Calamity God is something interesting."
Li Aozi didn’t care at all. He shrugged and activated the Elyei Spirit Race’s talent [Hypersense Thought].
[You consumed one Focus Value and made an [Intelligence] check for the current issue.]
[Check passed.]
A flood of information surged in Li Aozi’s mind. It was almost instinctual, as he immediately picked out the relevant parts from Liue and the students’ conversation.
"Let me guess... The Calamity God is a project of the Commune, but due to some mishap, there was a severe accident. Your students were deeply affected, many have serious psychological scars, and they blame you for it."
As soon as Li Aozi’s words fell, Liue instantly tore through the ripples of space and appeared outside the door. Even without a head, Li Aozi could still sense her murderous gaze.
But Li Aozi was entirely unafraid and continued:
"And it was this accident that led to the disbandment of the Commune, right?"
Liue stared at him intently.
Two headless beings, at this moment, locked eyes, clashing across spacetime without giving an inch.
After half a minute, Liue was the first to break the silence.
"I did nothing wrong."
Liue said coldly:
"I owe nothing to the Commune, the victims, or this universe."
"You’re not wrong? Then why are you hiding? Why not explain it to your students instead of blabbering about it to an outsider you’ve known for less than four hours— I don’t get it. Either you’re a masochist, or you’re feeling guilty."
Li Aozi’s precise criticism hit Liue’s sore spot:
"Or is it that you don’t dare to face those questioning students? Because you know you’ve wronged them, you’re afraid to speak, and they won’t trust you at all. Ah, I get it. You’re probably compromised by some vile actions and have lost their trust—"
"Enough!"
Liue clenched her fist, and the Echo Blade lit up on the back of her hand. But soon, her scientific professionalism restored her calm.
She turned around, put her hands on her hips, sighed, and fell silent for a long time.
"It wasn’t my fault."
Liue sat down in the void, her gravity capturing the entire basement, sending it into weightlessness as objects floated around.
She slowly explained:
"You know, the purpose of the Life Commune was for the people of Quan Starry Abyss to achieve longevity, to break free from the dependency on the Pathway and the yearning for gods, right?"
"Uh, actually, I think there’s nothing wrong with the current situation..." Li Aozi retorted: "The appearance of Pathway allows everyone to have a chance to ascend to godhood, to achieve a state of near-immortality through their efforts. Isn’t that great?"
"Is it?" Liue sneered: "But whose hands control the Pathway?"
Li Aozi instinctively replied: "Narrative-level civilizations."
"Thirteen Narrative-level civilizations control the Six-Layered Starry Abyss, six factions, and the ascension channels of countless trillions of people, but in the end, only a few thousand, a few hundred deities emerge— do you think that’s fair?"
Li Aozi paused: "That doesn’t seem like a big problem. Those who reach that position are elites."
"But I think there’s a fairer way."
Liue said playfully:
"Pathway is equal for everyone, but the nobility, corporate heirs, academic authorities, top executives, military leaders, and god-blood descendants— these people are more equal than the commoners."
"Those people are elites by birth; having resources is natural."
"Who is an elite? What makes an elite?" Liue said coldly: "Their ancestors were elites, how is that related to them?"
"Cultivation is always about one’s own effort."
"You have a governor of a Narrative-level civilization as your father, I have a serf mother from a primitive, uncivilized planet, and you say we’re equal on the Pathway?"
Liue intertwined her fingers, mockingly said:
"Silly child, you must understand, the cosmos was never fair. Human existence inherently involves class and hierarchy. A place without class— is called [society]."
"Wait, wait, wait!"
Li Aozi raised his hand and organized his thoughts:
"You don’t want to join [Society] and become a selfless citizen?"
"Would you want to? To be a cell on a monster that devours civilizations?"
"And you want to compete at the end of the Pathway with the elite children of Narrative-level civilizations?"
Li Aozi cautiously asked.
"That’s what living is."
"Yeah, that’s living." Li Aozi spread his hands: "You want to enjoy competition without hierarchy like [Society] and also ascend to godhood and eternity within Narrative-level civilizations— Where do such good things happen?"
"Yes." Liue calmly answered: "Of course, they exist."
"— You’re dreaming."
"I wasn’t joking."
Liue said easily:
"Once, there was such a person, or rather, there was a deity, who showed us this possibility. A method that allows one to maintain self-awareness while enjoying eternal life..."
"Don’t tell me it’s joining [Society]."
"Hey, little ghost, you now know that Arcane Energy is the creator’s mandate, right?"
Liue extended her hand, writing in the air various terms and relationships:
"The creator is eternal; we all know that. Those external Destroyers, before they came, the six main gods of the six external universes of the Starry Abyss— creators, had already lived countless eons. If it weren’t for the Destroyers’ slaughter, they would never die."
"In other words, becoming a creator inherently involves immortality."
Li Aozi remained silent.
"Now, we know that sequential Arcane Energy is the creator’s mandate, the basic law of the universe, especially the top ten sequences— they essentially constitute the entire universe."
"If we gather the top ten Sequential Arcane Energies, combining them into an original Supreme Arcane Energy... Aha, that’s the creator’s mandate! We can bypass the Pathway, bypass the Narrative-level civilizations’ monopolized Pathway, bypass competition with bureaucrats."
Her tone grew more fervent, increasingly excited and insane:
"Don’t forget, Arcane Energy itself can be ’rented out’ for use."
"If we synthesize that final Supreme Arcane Energy and implant it into an absolutely benevolent, absolutely loyal to the common people and the Starry Abyss populace body—"
Liue chuckled:
"Ah, then even Narrative-level civilizations won’t matter anymore."
"The order of the universe will be rewritten, society, narrative— everything will change, the ultimate beautiful dream of equality will come true."
"I know you might doubt— but don’t forget, Arcane Energy has no usage threshold."
"As long as one person enjoys this Arcane Energy, and his conscience is sufficient, he can share it with everyone."
"By then, the status quo of deity fragmentation and Narrative-level competition will be altered. Commoners can fairly compete with those bureaucrats and aristocrats’ descendants— in fact, at that point, do you think competition is still necessary?"
Liue said playfully:
"The Commune strives for such ideals. Our ideals are nobler than the greatest cosmic endeavors because they originate from the desires of the most ordinary mortals."
"Have you thought that such powerful Arcane Energy could also instantly destroy the entire universe?"
Li Aozi couldn’t help but ask:
"You already know it’s the creator’s mandate, its danger level is probably a million times higher than my sequence level!"
