Chapter 399: 42. Adaptive Species
"We understand your pain, Annihilation Supreme God is willing to accept devout believers."
Konstantin said,
"But becoming a narrative-level citizen is a difficult matter. You need to go through layers of examination and swear never to betray our Grand Narrative. Unless there’s a task, you are not allowed to leave our Inherent Time Domain. To integrate with us, your current bloodline will become a burden. We need to change you..."
– This was pure lip service.
Li Aozi was too familiar with these people’s tactics.
The actual population of narrative-level civilizations was not many, generally around two trillion. The Empire of Heralds had a bit more but never exceeded five trillion.
But anyone who belonged to a narrative-level civilization was an elite of the Starry Abyss. They had poured the bone and blood of narrative-level civilizations into themselves. They wouldn’t easily let people join.
The citizens of the Empire of Heralds were divided into three classes. Only the first class were true citizens of the Empire of Heralds.
The Obliteration Sanctum had another routine: they said with their mouths that there was nothing good about their homeland, but in reality, the Obliteration Sanctum valued bloodlines more than any other narrative-level civilization.
To join, you had to go through bloodline modification step by step. Only after you completely modified yourself into the ’Noksspirit race’ recognized by the Obliteration Sanctum could you officially enter the narrative-level civilization.
When you got there, it wouldn’t count as a success. You had to start education and were required to marry within the race, form a family, and produce offspring. After thousands of years of assessment, you could become a full-fledged citizen with complete rights.
This whole process couldn’t be completed in less than five thousand years. The Obliteration Sanctum kept you hanging like this, not letting you enjoy full benefits.
Even if you didn’t complete the process, you had already modified your bloodline. Those with the Noksspirit race bloodline would stick together even if they hadn’t joined the narrative-level civilization.
Wouldn’t they be more inclined towards their new compatriot civilization?
When the day came for the Obliteration Sanctum to launch a war, these people, to prove themselves in front of the civilization, would rush more eagerly to the front lines.
When they died, at most, a bit of pension would be given out, losing only a little of the cost of bloodline modification, but the original pureblood elite of the race would be preserved.
The Obliteration Sanctum’s conservative strategy also led to the rapid increase of the Noksspirit race’s bloodline population. They began to behave tyrannically across the universe. Many of them simply engaged in robbery and arson for a living, becoming one of the most hated races in the cosmos.
Fortunately, Li Aozi was truly there for the bloodline modification.
After Konstantin talked for a long time, he finally, unintentionally, mentioned,
"...For a devout believer like you who sincerely wants to join the Sanctum, we are willing to provide you with some free assistance to help you better integrate into our civilization."
– The free is always the most expensive. After calculation, working and fighting for the narrative level offered far more benefits than getting incomplete welfare.
Li Aozi wore a look of being deeply honored and said devoutly, "Great, Annihilation Supreme God!"
"Your pathway has been determined, and your faith is so firm. In that case, I can help you modify your bloodline. On this point, my suggestion is to give you these three choices."
Konstantin spread out his hand, revealing three different potions: blue, black, and purple.
"Noksspirit race. This is our main ethnicity, possessing excellent divine thinking and balanced talent development. They have a place in any industry."
"Yakama Spirit Tribe. This is a spirit race bloodline specialized in combat and destruction. They excel in martial arts and have a great talent for qi energy."
"Sackley Spirit Tribe. Our outstanding scholars and spellcasters come from this race. Of course, their martial force is not inferior either, but undoubtedly, this will greatly enhance your intelligence and cognitive breadth."
Konstantin looked at Li Aozi,
"Which one do you plan to choose to join us in continuing our Grand Narrative?"
Li Aozi hesitated for a moment on the surface. Seeing his hesitation, Konstantin asked,
"Do you have any questions?"
"If I remember correctly, our narrative includes more than these, right?"
Li Aozi fidgeted a bit and said,
"When I read ’Thus Spoke Elyei,’ it mentioned that there are seventeen branches of the spirit race."
"’Thus Spoke Elyei’? Your reading volume is indeed large. I now understand and comprehend your feelings. To be able to read that book, you are not an ordinary person..."
Konstantin’s comment carried some mockery.
Olavir’s expression panel was filled with surprise and shock. He looked at Li Aozi as if seeing some extraordinary figure.
’Impressive, Leoz.’ Olavir said in a private chat channel, ’To make a proud member of a narrative-level civilization, and an elite priest at that, personally acknowledge that you are not an ordinary person.’
’Even the "God of Reality" Leo couldn’t make the spirit race respect him when he visited the narrative-level civilization back then. You, a junior with the same name, actually did it? You’re even more impressive than Leo!’
"Not that exaggerated,"
Li Aozi replied,
"That book is hard to understand, or rather, it requires some abnormal logic to grasp it."
’Oh, he meant you are not an ordinary person in that sense?’
’Probably,’
Li Aozi responded.
While Li Aozi was communicating with Olavir, Konstantin liked him more the longer he looked and was happy to answer his questions.
"Yes, it’s true. The spirit race has seventeen branches in total. The three main ethnic groups occupy 70%, and the remaining fourteen make up 30%. You are well-informed."
Konstantin was curious,
"You are deeply familiar with the narrative level, which is commendable. However, are you sure you want to choose from the other fourteen spirit races?"
"It was the Elyei Spirit Race that led me down this path originally,"
Li Aozi immediately showed a longing and reminiscent expression,
"So, I think it’s more appropriate to choose the Elyei Spirit Race. It would also fulfill my childhood dream."
– Although Li Aozi had never read that book, in his previous life, the spirit race’s storylines were tedious and never-ending through several versions. He had directly quit and only went through summaries.
"Hmm... Leoz, you are a sentimental person. Very well. I can foresee you being a loyal subject."
Konstantin removed the three potions and instead grabbed a pale gold potion from the void,
"Elyei Spirit Race... hehe, this branch is both sad and great. They excel at creating things they love and are fairly good at research. The Grand Architect Matt Dumberon was from the Elyei Spirit Race."
His tone carried much sentiment.
"However, that’s about it. All these years, there has been only one Dumberon."
"I must remind you that the Elyei Spirit Race is not a very powerful ethnicity. If you persist in pursuing the pathway, you’d better choose the three mainstream ones I recommended."
"Even so, do you still plan to choose it?"
Li Aozi firmly nodded,
"Yes, I wish to join the Elyei Spirit Race."
